I'm about to install Arch Linux on my Laptop as a secondary OS. Any tips before installing this baby blind?
>>
Follow the beginner's guide and you should be fine.

Unlike Slackware, it really isn't possible to install it "blind".

Planning to dual boot it though. Is the process hard?

It isn't hard, especially if you're familiar with Linux operating systems beforehand. It's just time consuming (not as much as Gentoo though), and it's easy to mess up if you DON'T know what you're doing.
>>
>>51590659
Well... I'm keked...
>>
>>51590679
If you're scared, you can always download Architect instead. It's a standalone installer for Arch with a Slack-style GUI so it's hard to mess up.
>>
>>51590684
Too late for that. I already booted it up.
>>
>>51590698
Well good luck then.
>>
I am actually making infographic picture guide how to install arch at this moment... its work in progress but some shit to point out

- go for single partition
- no swap partition but partition file
- enable color in pacman.conf
- get yaourt and infinality
- use at the beginning reflector to get fastest mirror in your country or country nearby
- ntp server for time sync solves a lot of issues I had

keep failing at whatever you touch
>>
>>51590767
It's buggy and I've had it fail more times then it succeeds, even when manually building with makepkg works just fine.
>>
Use UEFI and LUKS.
>>
>>51590933
I am on arch for 2 years
I used pacaur, packer and yaourt and read and argue on arch forums quite a bit about them and learned their features

none of them ever failed me other than waiting for AUR4 switch versions, and I must have installed 1000+ packages through them combined.

to utter this bullshit about the most popular aur helper
>it fail more times then it succeeds

well its obvious you are doing something terribly wrong, probably your life

>Single partition
Please no. Use LVM instead

>no swap partition but partition file
OH GOD NO!

>ntp server for time sync solves a lot of issues I had
This is actually good advice. I've had trouble installing a handful of packages on my first install because of this. What happened is that my system clock was set to the year 2050 for some reason and pacman considered some GPG keys as expired.
>>
>>51591249
Yeah I've had some issues with the clock bugging out in Architect specifically.
>>
>>51591249
>Please no. Use LVM instead
90% of people benefit none

>OH GOD NO!
yeah, why have simplicity and flexibility
thats just crazy talk
>>
>>51591463
>simplicity
I'll be honest, I don't know how to setup a swapfile, but it can't be easier than using LVM: pvcreate, vgcreate, and lvcreate for each partition.

>flexibility
What flexibility are you talking about? Being able to resize your swap partition? How often do you do that? And if you absolutely have to, it's not hard at all with LVM.

Also, you can't use swap files on a btrfs volume.

yes, adjusting whenever you feel like the swap file is nice and its also nice not seeing it every time you deal with lsblk and partitions
>>
>>51590575
Yes. Make it your primary OS.
