So what are /g/ opinions on Nexus 5?
>>
>>51582259
Very good phone.

Horrible battery.
>>
>>51582259
I've had nice for 2 years. Lame battery and camera, and only 10GB of usable storage in the 16GB model. Although I'm gonna miss all muh updates and Custom ROM's and easy rooting and Stock Android when I eventually get the Xperia Z5. Good phone though, great price
>>
Should I buy Nexus 5 or G2? Theyre the same price rn
>>
>>51582580
I've had a Nexus 5 since launch; I love mine except for the horrible battery life. I heard the G2 is basically the same except a larger battery, plus you'll have to deal with the bloatware that comes with it.
>>
The Moto X Pure is better in literally every way
>>
What constitutes good battery life? I'm getting 4-6 hours of SOT and it lasts around 2 days uncharged.
Uninstalled gapps and greenified everything except for facebook shit.
>>
>>51582855
>locked down motoshit
>better
nice meme
>>
>>51582259
the first said it already.
Everything's great but the battery.

Got the phone on release date and been using it heavily daily ever since.
It doesn't even make it to 3PM most days with heavy use. Running stock rooted.
>>
Nexus 5 was nice. I had one for a year, then got Nexus 6. People always comment on my screen size but it's fine. Fits in my pocket and good for watching TV/Twitch/whatever. Battery after 6 months is OK, lasts about 5-6 hours with moderate use. 4 with heavy.

Buy a portable power bank.

8.5/10
>>
>>51582259
Buy nexus 5, buy g2 battery, modify g2 battery so it fits nexus given that you aren't a retard and can do retard-tier engineering, enjoy nexus 5 with good battery
>>
>>51584846
>implying that it's worth the hassle when you can just get a 20000mAh brick for cheap

Best phone of 2013
>>
Buy the LG G2, flash Blisspop

>Same Experience
>>
>>51585438
g2 has a shit design tho
>>
>>51584655

>locked down

Um what?
>>
>>51585625
>Owning an Android where the OEM is in charge
>having to beg for updates and to not have your warranty voided
>dev community sucks because no one wants to work on an OEM locked device when the Nexus line exists

>>
>>51582281
This, battery died after 1.5 yrs. Replace with OEM for $20 and it's much better but even brand new the battery was not very good. lasts a day minimal use? charge about mid afternoon for heavy classroom shitposting.
>>
It's still fast as fuck. Ridiculous desu.
>>
I had one, great internals, super fast, but the battery wasn't great and the external build quality was cheap for a flagship. Still a great phone for $200 or whatever one costs now.
>>
>>51585945
how did you know the battery died as opposed to other hardware failing? I haven't had a phone break in this fashion so I lack the knowledge about determining which hardware failed

Great screen, great dev community (since it's a Nexus device), great specs to this day overall. The battery is complete shit though. A 40USD 20000mAh external solves that problem just fine. Haven't even been tempted to upgrade from it and got it on release day.
>>
>>51582259
My Nexus 4 finnally died and I'm in the market for a new phone.

Should I just get the Nexus 5x? I've heard it has a much better battery/camera.

Also its down to $300 new which is somewhat cheap(though the Nexus 5 used is like 120).

Worth the money? I'm cheap af
>>
>>51582259
Shit phone, don't fall for the nexus meme. Also the battery is the only good thing about this phone, its lasting longer than any other phone I've had/seen. I don't know what those guys are talking about
>>
>>51586943
I upgraded to a g3 and I have mixed feelings.
On one hand, battery is much better, but on the other hand, it's just not as fast as the nexus was.
Knock code is pretty neat though.
>>
>>51587052
I learned my lesson with OEM controlled Android phones. If I'm going to go with Android I'm going to get the best of it in terms of features and device lifetime. While the hardware is better on flagships for the most part, I prefer the Nexus line because the communities really last forever for those devices and I can have things like Xposed and the newest nonskinned version of Android with an aging device.
>>
>>51586909
Usually if 1000 other consumers preach the same issue, it might be ok to guess at that point.
>>
>>51587136
I see. Didn't really know it was a massive problem. I guess I should've assumed though since batteries tend to go for more than 1.5 years
>>
>>51587113
I agree.
I'm slightly disappointed with the g3 support coming from a nexus 5, but I'm glad it's there nonetheless.
My nexus 5 was god tier value phone, but the battery was barely giving me 3 hours SoT when I upgraded. Used to get 4.5 hours.
Just ordered a 64gb sd card for my g3 though, so I got that going for me, which is nice.

I can still get it to pull about 4-5 hours on max brightness but I don't use it heavily, just webbrowse and hotspot.

It sucks that with Android it's basically the choice between good hardware and good software support. The Nexus line is fixing that but ofcourse it comes at the price of losing the midrange value phone.

I have no clue how people can stand using an Xperia. Shit community, shit OEM support, locked down. It just looks pretty. I would just get an iphone at that point
>>
>>51586949
Dunno about the 5x, but N6 is around 330-350 bucks. Get that.
>>
>>51582580
Definitely go for the Nexus 5, it's still alive and kicking with Marshmallow while the G2 definitely isn't.
>>
>>51587322
>>51586949

N6 was 200 on a Lightning Deal. Feel free to keep an eye on that value. If you're in dire need, 5x is cool at 300.
>>
>>51587442
man I'm kinda bummed I missed that.
>>
>>51587250
That's better than anything I ever got.
Low brightness, 1.9ghz, 320mhz gpu, undervolted, etc.
2.5 hours SoT at the end.
>>
>>51587561
must be either a good batch or luck on my side then
>>
>>51587567
I have a friend who was getting almost 5 hours SoT on stock everything.
Nexus 5, he had the white, I got three black.

I was immensely jealous, he's still using it with a little over 4 hours SoT most days.

But then when you look online so many n5 owners ended up with shit battery life like me, so I'm guessing it's just a lucky batch like you said
>>
I have the 5. I get a little bit less than 3 hours SoT. I can barely make it through the day. Next phone will definitely have to have a better battery.
>>
>>51586949
AVOID THE 5X. Performance is very poor.
>>
>>51583399
That's bretty good if you ask me. I guess 5 to 6 sot?
>>
>>51587705
its fine
>>
>>51587737
nope. it's not even as fast as the nexus 5. granted, the nexus 5 recently became a beast thanks to marshmallow.
>>
>>51587705
>>51587773
So should I go for the Nexus 6(Its kinda big tho)?

I've also heard good things about the One Plux X
>>
>>51587773
didnt say it was the fastest phone, I said it was fine.
>>
>>51587793
if you don't mind big as fuck phones go for it.

opx is good, mediocre battery life but incredible performance for the price. build quality is outstanding, not just for the price but just in general. unless you're an american on using tmobile or at&t, you're good.
>>
>>51587826
>if you don't mind big as fuck phones go for it.
>opx is good, mediocre battery life but incredible performance for the price. build quality is outstanding, not just for the price but just in general. unless you're an american on using tmobile or at&t, you're good.
Whats the issue with tmobile/at&t? I thought the phone was unlocked.
>>
>>51587869
It's missing bands
>>
>>51587882
Oh shit. Well looks like opx is out. Thanks for the heads up.

https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/one-plus-x-lacks-important-frequences-in-the-usa.395421/

yeah I got lucky. I was about to buy it and someone a few weeks ago in this general let me know. Did a little more research and apparently one plus gives zero fucks about the us market. Can't really say that I blame them but it's still annoying because it's a good phone.
>>
>>51587936
>skipping US bands
What the fuck were they thinking, the US could have been their largest userbase if they hadn't fucked this up.
>>
>>51588107
It's because One Plus focuses on China and India now. They don't even want to try to fuck with Samsung and Apple over here.
>>
>>51586984
lmao
>>
>>51582259
Enjoy your botnet.
>>
>>51582259
The battery life is salvageable with a combination of Marshmallow, ElementalX with some conservative CPU settings and not installing meme apps like Facebook on your phone.

It can even be made great if you do the G2 battery mod.
>>
>>51588772
>conservative CPU settings
But the unadulterated speed is the only reason to use the 5 in 2015.
>>
>>51582259
get a 5X, they are on sale right now
>>
>>51588888

checked
>>
>>51587377
What is Cyanogen mod
>>
>>51582259
Do a g2 battery swap, and enjoy the best phone in the 2015
>>
>>51586949
>saying "af"
>>
How's Nexus 5X compared to 5?
>>
>>51586943
i miss the galaxy nexus so much
>>
>>51582259
Had one. It was the first smartphone I owned that i enjoyed using. Good resolution, snappy response.

But the battery life was absolute shit and the camera took good stabilized photos but 5 seconds after you hit the shutter. Every phone I've had since has been much better and I just wouldn't recommend the Nexus 5 to anyone at this point.

If you want a cheap decent phone get a Zenfone 2 or even a Nexus 6, or go used and get a G3 or Note 3 or Galaxy S4 or whatever.
>>
>>51593745
slower but better battery and camera
>>
>>51593745
N5X marshmallow > N5 lollipop > N5 kitkat > N5 marshmallow
>>
>>51585779
I'm going to go ahead and call this out as false. I had a Nexus 5 until very recently, and the only 5.1.1 rom I could find was shitty omnirom. I bought the phone because I thought it would be supported for awhile, and would have great rom support. Boy was I wrong.
>>
I liked mine a lot, but it shit the bed and I was able to get an upgrade so I upgraded to an LG G3. It feels nice to have a removable battery and expandable storage again.
>>
>>51595189
In what regard?
>>
Ok faggots I need answer

What is the best Android version for Nexus 5?
>>
>>51595292
6.0
>>
>>51582432
same here
>>
>>51595189
>N5 lollipop > N5 kitkat > N5 marshmallow
what
>>
>>51595488
think he's just memeing it up
>>
>>51595519
He is. Posting from a Nexus 5 with marsh and it's pretty much what everyone is claiming - it's a lovely phone but fuck this battery.
>>
>>51595852
Yeah. So fucking smooth, but sadly, only 3 hours sot.
>>
>>51595972
like everyone else said pay $5 for g2 battery and enjoy good battery
>>
>>51596131
can't be that simple. Otherwise everyone would just do that
>>
Using a n5 right now, good phone shit battery. Also the screen scratches easier than my n4.
I like my n4 more, it was built better.
>>
>>51595220
>using roms on a nexus device
>not rooted stock with Xposed
I had Marshmallow right after it released for the N5. Root and Xposed is all you need on a device that doesn't have heavy skins or manufacturer bloatware.
Also, I'm calling bullshit on you not being able to find any Roms for a recent Nexus device.
>>
>>51596258
It is pretty simple but most people don't do that because n5 is a super fragile phone and they are afraid that they will fuck it up, or give up when they read the list of tools that you need
>>
>>51595292
why the fuck would you use anything but the latest on a Nexus device? This isn't Samshit or Motorola were talking about here
>>
>>51596425
Because I've heard people say that 6.0 fucked up their battery

>>51596408
I was never into xposed, what exactly does it do and why should I install it?
>>
>>51596456
>fuck up their battery
If they made it to Marshmallow on a N5 chances are their battery is already fucked. The N5 has a legendary shit battery. Instead of worrying about the extra 15 minutes between OS versions just save the headache and get a portable power brick. You'll need it no matter what OS version
>>
Use my 2013. I think I'll replace the battery and continue using it
>>
>>51588888
Brb, checking those quints
>>
>>51596456
My sot has remained the same as Lolipop and Kitkat. Roughly 3 hours sot. Standby time however has improved tremendously.
>>
Should I fix my Nexus 5's screen or upgrade to a BlackBerry Passport? I'm currently stuck on a shitty ass 4s that I can't root and has shit memory for the ios version I'm on. Should I just wait it out until i can afford one or go for the repair?
