I'm buying an i7 4790K, Gigabyte GA-Z97X-GAMING 5 (might change depending on the price and availability) and 16GB of RAM. I plan to OC my CPU @4.4Ghz, what would be the recommended RAM frequency to use, should I buy a a pair of 1600 Mhz, 1866 or even higher, 2133?

Really, the best formula is a combination of clocks /and/ timings. A low clock with low timings is not ideal, likewise, a high clock with high timings is also not good.

but, tl;dr, just get the 2133 as long as the timings aren't over 11.

Buy a 6700k and 3800mhz ddr4 for the same price instead

Ok, I'll try to get a 2133 11-11-11-30 then.

Yeah... and where do you get that kind of deal?
Here, I can get both a 4790K and 16gb of ram for less than the cheapest 6700k I can find.

I would also like to know where your getting that deal. I was looking at the 4790k just as I saw this thread

1600MHz is generally where the advantages of high memory clock are maxed out. get a 1600MHz kit with low timings.

i also believe DDR4 hits this wall at 2666MHz

Higher hz is better. Fallout 4 gets a 25% framerate boost when going from 1300 to 2100 iirc

Not him but keep in mind that this is the only game where RAM speed has shown any real difference
>>
>>51558766
Any link on that pease?
>>
>>51558793
This isn't true. There are other games. Lost Planet for example had a 5fps boost for example.

This. I forgot to mention it in the post.

It was the first Google result, and they quote digital foundry for the entirety of it
