again, it's all about the encoding settings. an encode with one set of settings might not look the same as another with different settings, even if the bitrate ends up the same.

if we're talking about good internal groups here, they try to aim for transparency with the source. this is of course easy to do, just set the bitrate sky high and it will look good almost no matter what the other settings are. the hard part is getting a good result while keeping the file size low, and in your example one group might have done a better job than the other. but again, there might be differences in scenes you haven't compared yet.

Okay guys quick question here, I'm finally ready to build a RAID home server, all it's gonna do is offer my media library and run a HTTP proxy.

So currently I'm planning on:

4x WD reds 4tb
1x server case (haven't looked into them yet but obviously one that runs cool and has lots of drive bays)
1x mATX motherboard with onboard ethernet (would I need a bigger one? I don't need graphics or anything..)
1x Intel i7 CPU (haven't decided which one but I want it to be an i7 since I'm running software RAID and I might encode on this machine)
2x 8GB ECC RAM (16gb total)
1x 500w PSU (i'm getting 500w cause I want to expand in the future..)

I'll put linux with a software raid on there and ZFS.

My question to you guys is if I'm missing something or if there's a better solution to create a redundant media storage? I really want this setup to be expandable, so that I can buy 2-4 more HDDs in the future and add them to the pool -without- data loss. What do you guys think?
