i've been playing on a gaming laptop from 2010 and it was getting pretty outdated so i figured it was time for me to build a PC. so upon my dad hearing about this idea and my birthday coming up in a week, i found out he got me a 30" 4k monitor and now my pc part checklist is probably too cheap to support that.
mind me, i don't have the greatest knowledge in computer parts so... i'm gonna have to splurge on a better graphics card, right? what do i splurge on and what can i budget on? i need help.
Just play the games at 1080p unscaled to 4K if your computer is too shit to run games at 4K. But yes, you want a nice GPU.

Link your current part list and how much $ you have to work with.
Budgeting is hard for 4k gaming. Yeah, your going to want a high end gpu, possibly even in sli depending on which you get. Just do what the other anon said and play them at 1080p. Much easier and wallet friendly.

why buy 3.5? maxwell doesnt have full DX 12 support

Go to 8gb of ram. Use that money to purchase 390x

I have a 970 that works fine for 1080p gaming and would still advise getting AMD here.

Poorfag here, I'm also using a gaming laptop from 2010. Been trying to replace it for a whole year now, but not enough NEETbux.
Since I'm guessing you don't want to sell the monitor back, you can easily put together a capable rig with minimal parts.
As a matter of fact, I have an unopened i5 4440 lying around. If you'd like to talk business, I'd happily discuss it over on Steam.
