are you doing a clean install?
i have a mac mini from late 2012, and it had mavericks installed on it, had all the upgrades through yosemite, then installed the el cap beta, and it was terrible.
however, i'm about to do an upgrade from a clean install of yosemite and report back if this thread is still alive in about an hour
