post yfw you just bought a monitor when you could've gotten an Acer 27" 2560 x 1440 1ms for $200 brand new

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009849&utm_medium=Email&utm_source=IGNEFL112515&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL112515-_-EMC-112515-Index-_-LCDLEDMonitors-_-24009849-S0O

just bought a DELL 2414 24" IPS with VESA stand for $200. I'm happy with it and like the IPS but this listing sort of annoyed me.
>>

I haven't bought a new monitor in 7 years.

I'll buy a new one as soon as there's a good 24" 4k IPS monitor.

>mfw 27" won't fit on my desk
>>
>>51530254
the p2415q is AH-IPS. When I googled "p2415q" and ^F'd for "ips" I got 7 results in the snippets that all provide sufficient context to confirm that the panel is IPS.

What excuse do you have for coming to the wrong conclusion about this?
>>
>>51530355

It's 4k, 24", made by Dell, does 60Hz, and despite the incompetence of some people to research products is indeed an IPS display.
>>
>>51530355
I'm in two minds on upgrading my current monitor (ASUS MX239H). Is there a discernable difference between 4K and 1080p on a 24 inch? Or is it only noticeable with 27+

60 hz is really not sufficient at 4k. People need to realise that increasing resolution without increasing refresh rate is making motion less smooth / more judder. I'll take 2560x1440 @120hz+ until there's something better.
>>
>>51530495
Nope, although I've (only) had it in my office for the past 6 months. At home I have a pair of UP2414Qs (also Dell 24" 4k monitors, but 60Hz is trickier and they were more expensive since they came out earlier).

Between the two models, the P2415Q is better, but like I said I've only had it for about 6 months.
>>

>>
>>51530005
>LCD

>>
>>51530509
1) what are you talking about?
2) the extent to which 60Hz matters is entirely dependent on what you're doing. I code with my monitors. *Sometimes* I watch videos (youtube, netflix, occasionally anime, stuff like that), but I don't game. Nothing merits higher refresh rates (and I've used my 4k monitors at 30Hz for coding and with the exception of a marginally perceptible sluggishness with the mouse, I saw no difference).

Again, this is entirely about what you're using it for. If you're primarily text-based, you could drop as far as 30Hz and the text (from an editor, browser, terminal, etc...) will continue to *not move* 30 times a second just like it would at 60Hz (or 120 or whatever).

Thanks for pointing me to that later post. I'm keeping up with the thread, so the tone of your post - like I was being negligent for not reading the post that came after mine - is unnecessary and unwarranted. Moreover, it makes you look like an arrogant asshole.

I don't know how to quantify light bleed so unless you can offer an external review that offers a meaningful measurement of this I'm going to write that off. As for response time, all of the reviews I'm seeing now - with an eye on "response time" - report 8ms and thereabout (under 10ms). Certainly nothing close to 50ms.

Do you have any proof of these claims? Can you substantiate this with more than "it's just obvious"/"you're dumb if you don't vacuously agree with me"?
>>
>>51530953
some of the actual people that bought in the amazon reviews say the colors aren't good, there is light bleed, and that the actual response time is 50ms.
>>
>>51530768
Cheap 4k monitors are terrible. Huge bezels, uneven brightnes levels, light bleeding, inaccurate colors, etc. Just buy an Ultrasharp.
>>
>>51530005

While I usually appreciate Amazon reviews, I don't trust them for quantitative readings or even qualitatively measured stuff like light bleed. The crowd is good for reporting on "gross statistical stuff", like whether a certain percentage of these devices turn out to be lemons after 6 months. "Will Adams from Kentucky" hasn't given anyone any reason to believe that he knows how to measure response time, let alone anything else.

Looking at the reviews written by people who make it their business, I see <10ms response times. I don't know how to satisfactorily look into light bleed, and unless someone can offer a good way, I'm going to have to insist that we drop that criterion, because it's becoming this vague bogeyman.

>>51530991
Are you speaking generally again or are you talking about a specific model? I'm doing your work for you at this point and not finding the evidence you seem to want - no review sites reporting uneven lighting, light bleed, etc...

As for bezels, I use the P2415q and the bezels are reasonably sized. As I say that, I hope we can both agree what a profoundly stupid discussion this is to have, and that if you don't like the size of this bezel, then you should just say "I'm looking for a monitor with a smaller bezel". You might be looking for a while, but lumping it in with uneven brightness and all sorts of other measurable faults makes it sound like the bezel is some unique shortcoming, when it's evidently just a fact of all monitors.
>>
>>51531024
What am I dodging? I'm asking for some measurable issue with it that you can cite in a review.

If this is too big a burden of proof for you, maybe it's not worth it for you to be posting
>>
>>51531036
I don't mind that it's not for $200. I already have a nice ips monitor for primary use. This is replacing the old 22" tn screen next to it that I use for overflow workspace and browsing while I have a movie going. TN is good enough for that.

>>
Considering picking up one of these, since my shitty 21.5 Acer TN panel is about to shit the bed.

It seems like a great deal, but I'm not too sure. It will be my first IPS panel monitor because I'm too poor to afford a nice one. Are these okay /g/? Or am I better off buying something else?
>>

$200 is the sweet spot for 1080p IPS right now. go lower and the quality will be shitty.

just my advice, but I care way, way more about it being a good brand than about price and I think that this for $200 was a good one... buuuut if you literally couldn't give one single fuck about the stand, which makes some things convenient, then you could prooobably get a 24" 1920x1080 IPS for a little bit less. I'm happy with this, though.

related, this monitor has only been around this price a few times. it has gone anywhere from $220 - $250 in the past six months. you could probably get a better monitor for $200. I don't know, though. i'd rather have a dell than an acer or something, basically.

for example

http://camelcamelcamel.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/product/B0148NNKTC?context=browse

is something that a lot of people are shilling, yet it has basically always been around that price. i just don't see the point because it looks cheap and is cheap. it doesn't even have a VESA mount and weighs apparently ~6 pounds all together. you could take a chance and save about $60+, though. This dell weighs I think 12.5 pounds. You're paying for the nice stand/more ports/better design/higher quality with this Dell and I think it's worth paying the extra ~$60 and not ever having to worry about it.

maybe i'm biased because I bought it, though.

pic related, some shitty thinkpad I hooked up to it and currently still have it hooked up to until I build my desktop.

Why are OLEDs not really a thing in computer monitors?

>Newegg

Into the trash it goes. They don't even bother to pack their monitors and just slap the shipping labels on the actual box. Ordered the new ROG Swift to test out and the box came crushed, a corner completely ripped and the styrofoam on the inside was punctured enough to see the monitor itself. Newegg wanted to fight with me on returning it and tried to tell me I had to open up the damaged box. Fuck that.

Meanwhile, the Acer from Amazon came in a nice big box with padding and no issues at all.

the way AMOLED is designed makes it so that close up they don't appear as sharp as they would as you would watch a TV sitting on the couch or whatever. it costs much more, they suffer from burn in and pixel degradation. IPS have more neutral, natural colors while AMOLED will have more vivid, oversaturating colors. they're really only made for entertainment and you shouldn't use one for a computer monitor, and yes the whites will eventually appear yellow overtime.

basically, you have no reason to even buy an AMOLED unless you just want the most ridiculous colors ever that in reality aren't what the media you're watching isn't even supposed to look like. even pro photographers don't buy AMOLED for this reason. it costs too much and has too many problems. for monitors, you want the natural colors and clarity.

it's only my opinion, but I think AMOLED is retarded.

Samsung Galaxy S2 for one. Samsung had several phones with AMOLED displays back then.

should I go for seed or colors?

dell u2414h or benq xl2411z

I do play csgo pretty often but I do fine on my current 60hz tn, though I can tell it would make a noticeable but small difference. I don't have the hardware to run most games that fast though. I hear the benq has pretty good colors for a TN, so does my current monitor. is the dell improvement worth it?

>Super AMOLED Plus, first introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S II and Samsung Droid Charge smartphones, is a branding from Samsung where the PenTile RGBG pixel matrix (2 subpixels) used in Super AMOLED displays has been replaced with a traditional RGB RGB (3 subpixels) arrangement typically used in LCD displays. This variant of AMOLED is brighter and therefore more energy efficient than Super AMOLED displays[26] and produces a sharper, less grainy image because of the increased number of subpixels. In comparison to AMOLED and Super AMOLED displays, they are even more energy efficient and brighter. However, Samsung cited screen life and costs by not using Plus on the Galaxy S II's successor, the Samsung Galaxy S III

basically was a better AMOLED that fixed some issues but cost even fucking more than actual AMOLED. just fuck that.

this to be quite honest family. 1080p is still optimal up to 27"
>>
27 inches is a little big, personally I like my monitors smaller as I am usually not more than an arm's length away and when they get to that size they start going out the periphery of my vision.
