Does /g/ have any professional certifications? A+ Certified here, studying for Net+.
how long do a+ and net+ take to complete? can you do it all online?
if you really want to learn, get yourself a lab.
My first lab was vmware server 2 on ubuntu 10.04 lts, dual core athlon x2 5600+ and 4GB of ram.
Just started setting myself up a new lab environment.
xeon e5 2680, 128GB ecc ram.

You study, get hands on experience and sign up for a test at a test center.

I did have a whole curriculum for A+ at my Technical School where I also went to High School.

I mean a real lab, spin up vms, do things to them, break them, fix them, purge, rinse repeat.
I bought this All-in-One Comptia A+ Exam Guide by Mike Meyers or some shit years ago. I never got around to actually getting a voucher and taking a test.
It's like $180 to take both parts of the test, isn't it? Is the cert even worth it? Or should you at least have that before pursuing something else?
I got my CCNA and landed a job with a 48k salary with full benefits and stock options

I am studying for A+, Security+ and Network+ all at the same time. Mostly via youtube videos which include Eli the computer guy and that Lowel dude from Winter Park FL. They make it so easy to understand. Professor Messer for the rest.
I plan on taking all 3 tests early next year. I can already pass the A+ but man Security is tough to wrap my mind around

Is already working an IT job a must for these? I always thought they were the very babby starter ones meant to get your foot in the door to begin with.

They are. You can study for 3 weeks and get those certs.
Might as well ask here
I'm trying to learn SQL from youtube vids, code academy and practice exams.
What would be the best cert to get?
Also, to those who are getting their certs, where are you obtaining them from? Microsoft? oracle? or going to your local coding camp?

Who is this Lowel guy? Any links? I'm familiar with Prof Messer and Eli.

This guy is a teacher at a technical school near Orlando and oh my fuck he makes it super easy to understand literally everything. Basically he just teaches class as he normally does and someone records it.
I download like 10 videos at a time to my phone and whenever I have like 30 minutes to kill I will just watch one of his lectures.
