Two questions:
1) Which version of android, is most battery efficient?
2) How can I upgrade to a newer version of android, without losing root access?
I have an Xperia Z1
>>51512454
The latest I assume
>>51512469
I would assume the same but then I remember all the new stuff added to the newer versions, and I can't help but think all that shit is consuming more battery.
Just install cyanogenmod
>>51512483
What new stuff? The only new things that were really added that were notable were a couple new animations and the System UI Tuner, only the former of which would even impact the battery if at all.
>>51512524
You could but I'd wait for a more stable (and official) version.
>>51512944
does upgrading to an official version undo root?
>>51512454
Just update it and then re-root.
Not hard.
Since Android 6 comes with app access restrictions I would guess it's less power consuming than the previous ones. Apps can do less background crap.
I have the Xperia Z2 myself and I'm somewhat interested in rooting or Cyanogenmod or some other modding but I think any alternations would make me lose the STAMINA-mode which I think is awesome. If anyone know a way to have that other than in the phone's stock Android I would like to hear the details.

just keep to the official rom and root it. Rooting won't make you lose STAMINA.

Lollipop
>>51512944
I have the Z1 as well. Running CM 12 Nightly. No problems so far.
>>51513588
what do I get with Cyanogenmod that I don't get with official android 5+root?
>>51513644
Add soft buttons
Change status bar items
LiveDisplay [recently added]
Screen peek by half pressing the camera button
Change what navigation ring shows
Change system fonts
Not sure if they already exist on stock tho.
shit. How do I root my Z1? I used this the last time I did it, but the new version doesn't want to work on my non-chink windows. help!
>>51513804
applocale
>>51513840
trying kingo root now, if it doesn't work, I'll try 360onekey with applocale.
>>51513888
>>51513840
kingo failed, using kingroot (japanese)
>>51514203
>kingroot
the app worked, the windows version didn't
>>51513057
It can (and does in most cases). Just research what version you're updating to and whether there's a root method available. If so, update and re-root. If not, see if you can unlock the bootloader. If not, stick with your current version and go full CyanogenMod or AOSP.
>>51515597
>see if you can unlock the bootloader.
so what do I do after I unlock the bootloader?
>>51514203
Kingroot is Chinese..
>>51515812
I set applocale on japanese and it worked fine, all fonts rendered fine.

flash a modified boot.img that does some SElinux policy magic and stops forcing encryption
flash SuperSU from TWRP
Nexus master race
