Are M.2 SSDs a meme?
>>51495844
>Is Japan a modern country?
It isn't is it?
>>51495844
Underrated post senpai, also this board is a meme.;^)
>>51495844
Yes.
Do I regret buying one? No.
>>51495883
No, it's pretty much a third world country.
It's a serious question though-- I just thought I'd get more replies if I phrased it as a shitpost, because that's how this place works.
Is there much of a noticeable improvement over SATA III?
>>51495949
On benchmarks yes. In real world use not hugely. My pc went from booting in 10 seconds to booting in 7 seconds.
M.2 SSDs are neat because they allow you to use all your SATA ports for actual storage.
>>51495844
>M.2 SSDs
No.
Yes, they are still inferior to even 1066MHz RAM (8.5GB/s).
SATA 3.0 (~600MB/s) SSDs are more than enough and if you really did need super fast storage then you would just use a ram disk.
>>51496578
What if you need super fast non-volatile storage?
>>51496503
>people actually care about the supposed seconds saved by switching to SSDs
toppest of all top keks.
>>51496616
I switched from a SATA ssd to an M.2. Switching from a hard drive to an ssd is a hugely noticeable performance jump. People who claim otherwise clearly don't own one.
>>51496578
Forgot pic repated
>>51496578
m.2 ssds can use the sata bus )))
>>51496527
My MOBO disables a few of the SATA ports if you use the M.2 connector.
>>51496609
Give me an example where you would need speeds over ~600MB/s for storage.
>>51496690
Give me an example where you would need speeds over ~1KB/s for storage
Give me an example where you would need more than 640k ram
>>51496672
Get a real mobo, faggot
>>51496690
If you frequently load large files into ram. Databases, raw images, etc. You don't NEED it but it's a nice speed boost.
>>51496714
The burden of proof is on you silly
>>51496646
>hugely noticeable
becuase installing your gaymen more than once is something that people actually do?
usb and esata ports are all still incapable of matching HDD throughputs..
there's literally no reason to buy solid state when you can't even make real use of it... especially at the current ridiculous price point.
>>51496649
m.2 ssd
>>51496736
Okyou want to go sanic
>>51496746
Your post is full of fuck. USB and esata have nothing to do with solid state drives. Operating systems do all kinds of random reads and writes during normal use. File copying isn't the only metric.
>>51496727
>If you frequently load large files into ram. Databases, raw images, etc. You don't NEED it but it's a nice speed boost.
What kind of database, raw image takes up more than 600mb of storage space? Are you manipulating 32K res tiff images?
>>51495844
Go weeb somewhere else weebposting faggot
>>51496748
booo, my laptop ram is faster than that. It's not even dual channel.
>>51496776
When you're loading multiple files the times start to add up. Also I have several multi-gb databases.
>>51496790
That's because it's fucking ram.
>>51496808
Then stop fucking around and just buy more RAM to make ramdisks. You can save images of ramdisks when you shut down your pc.
>>51496690
wow you nerds are so fucking 2015 with your ramdisk. the big thing now is going all raid 0 on your ssd and turning it into Ram. look at all this ram I got. and its almost as fast as my normal ram.
>>51496840
>still have to read the ramdisk contents back into ram from the slower ssd when you reboot
>have to write that data back to the disk when you shut down
>implying that's a better solution
I had a ramdisk set up like that in 1998. There are better ways now.
>>51496861
nice trolling dude a+
>>51496789
There is no need to be upset senpai
>>51496861
>1gbps
>almost same speed as RAM!
lmfao not even close kid.
>>51496861
>wow you nerds are so fucking 2015 with your ramdisk. the big thing now is going all raid 0 on your ssd and turning it into Ram. look at all this ram I got. and its almost as fast as my normal ram.
Dumbass, that's even slower than DDR2 ram.
>>51497017
the speed is not really the point, its how much ram you get. while still having an ok speed to feed the cpu.
>>51496882
>>still have to read the ramdisk contents back into ram from the slower ssd when you reboot
literally takes less than 10 seconds to load a 4GB ramdisk
>>have to write that data back to the disk when you shut down
You only have to write the data you modified on the ramdisk not the whole fucking ramdisk again.
>>implying that's a better solution
It's way better than 2GB/s capped ssds if you need high transfer speeds. Why do you think servers use 1600mhz+ quad channel RAM instead of SSD memes?
>I had a ramdisk set up like that in 1998. There are better ways now.
>>51497133
If 2gb/s is enough than an ssd is a better solution, at least for me personally.
>>51497123
Ram is getting cheaper you know
>>51497201
The price is not the issue either, its finding a motherboard that will support +300GB of ram.
and you could get my elite setup for 120ish bux for 350gb of ram.
>>51496736
Your logical fallacy is!
Burden of Proof
I don't need to prove my claim - you must prove it is false.
''I maintain long-term solar cycles are the cause of global warming. Show me I'm wrong''.
>>51496746
Let me guess, every metric done to prove you wrong is invalid because of
>the Jews
>>51496672
It shouldn't do that if you're using a PCIe-based M.2 SSD.
