Where were you when AMD got Nvidia beating drivers, when AMD won?

This is negligible. We need to wait for it to actually release before jumping to any conclusions.

Manufacturers love to produce bias or exaggerated charts.

Shader cache has been in Mesa for years, and guess who's the major contributor to Mesa.
Hint: Not nvidia
>>
if AMD is the inventor of all the modern great GPU shit how do AMD suck so much especially on high medium and high ranges

3dfx interactive?

They can.
Just not as well as nVidia.

AMD haven't exactly gone all out like nVidia and put in dedicated tesselation units.

Are you new?

lowering texture quality to get higher fps in benchmarks
higher prices and then dropping it the next day when nvidia released cards
amd PARTNERS selling cards over $200 the amd price even though there was no shortage
fake benchmarks
shady benchmarks with features disabled to make amd cards look better and i'm not talking about gameworks features

I'm not defending Nvidia but it is dumb as fuck to try to make companies into personas like most amd fans do.

both are terrible companies that shouldn't be trusted

Everything they released had their settings shown and confirmed by reviewers.

It's cheating the competition that's a problem. And Nvidia did plenty of that.

Are we talking about 4k gameplay benchmarks with AA disabled?

You literally do not need AA at those resolutions. It makes no difference, and only serves to cripple fps.

For starters, the ArmA 3 benchmarks.

Then there's TW3 where they promised and released "real" benchmarks showing 60+fps with a 270 non-X, yet IRL a 270 can't get 60fps in the game even on low.

And let's not forget their DX12 benchmark from Ashes of the Singularity that no third party was capable of even getting close to (hurr 290x beats 980Ti guise (only at 4k and only with "some" settings turned off that weren't for the 980Ti and only when running this beta version of DX12 we compiled specifically for this card that isn't available to the public) srsly! Orly? Why's it 8fps behind a 970 when we do it?).

Then there's Batman: Arkham Knight (hurr hairwerks, gotta turn that off to give a "fair" comparison even though we left it on for the Nvidia card! Hurr, it's too tessellated, better force lower tesselation only for the AMD card using this proprietary software we won't release so the consumer can do the same thing! See? It still almost sorta...nope Fury is still 10fps behind a 970)
>>
>>51496208
It's shady because they try to use a comparison to an Nvidia card in the same price bracket, but leave AA on only for the Nvidia card.

>>
>>51496522
Meanwhile the 970 superclocked, 980, and 980Ti can do much better without any "improvements"

Doesn't matter how much you improve shit, it's still shit.
>>
How to download?
>>
Do Radeon drivers improve all cards generally or do they favor new cards only like Nvidia?
>>
>>51496526
So why is 4k the only thing that AMD seems to give a shit about?

Their cards lose, hard, at lower resolutions. While using more power and running hotter.

Never mind that less than 1% of PC gamers even have a 4k screen, less than 20% of that 1% actually try to play games at 4k, and less than 20% of GPU sales are even to PC gamers.
>>
>>51496341

It's literally in the driver's control panel and can be controlled on a per-profile basis.

I'll give you the fury x but the 98o is priced against the fury, not 290x. The 290x was losing across the board to a 780ti when the 780ti launched. A 390 (which sadly isn't on the chart) performs roughly on par with a 290x which puts it above a 970 - which it is priced againsts.

The 280x, 380x and below AMD cards are way, way above the Nvidia ones they are priced against. Remember when the 770 was faster than the 7970ghz? Lel says I.
>>
>>51496941
I never disputed that they were better price:performance.

I was commenting on how AMD cannot put out a competitive high-end card to save their lives.

Remember when the Fury and Fury X launched? The Fury was $50 more than the 980 and the Fury X was $1100.

Let's also not mention the fact that neither the Fury nor the Fury X have shit in the way of overclocking headroom and launched with a plethora of issues that were never satisfactorily resolved (coil whine on both, pump whine on Fury X, reservoir leaking on Fury X, drawing 300% more electricity at peak than advertized)
>>
>>51496941
>The 290x was losing across the board to a 780ti when the 780ti launched
The REFERENCE 290X was losing across the board, largely because the cooler was shit causing it to throttle and run way below the sort of clocks an aftermarket 290X maintains.

Do they specify if the card they're testing is a reference model or one with much better cooling?
>>
>>51497092
Out of curiosity, can you even buy a reference Nvidia card?

I don't think I've EVER seen one. Are they just super rare or is AMD just that fucking retarded?
>>
>>51497161
Titan X are reference cards.
I got 2
>>
>>51497161

You can buy reference cards from both companies early on, they tend to be phased out once AIB's get their shit together.

Except for the previously mentioned titan x, along with fury x and nano which are reference only, so saythed AMD and Nvidia.
>>
>>51497161
wat

reference nvidia cards are literally everywhere. you can't buy a non-reference titan.

every nvidia card that looks like pic related is reference

hell, are there even any non-reference cards out there with blower fans
>>
>>51497161
Do quadro count?
>>
>>51497161
Yes, of course you can. Reference cards from both vendors tend to get replaced by custom models after a while, so they're more common early on after a new release. There are also some cards that are only sold in reference versions, such as NVIDIA's Titan series and AMD's 295X2 and Fury X.
>>
>>51497213
I guess, but then again I've never had a reason to look at either 5-year-old or $2000 professional cards.

>>51497178
>>51497208
titans are reference only
What, all 8000ish that have been sold total? Wew lad, you're almost touching 0.01% of Nvidia's GPU sales with that one!

Also I have NEVER seen an Nvidia card that looked like that other than a Titan.

>>51497207
So why are there still reference 290's on the market?
>>
>>51497355

technically the 295x2 wasn't reference only as the Powercolor devil 13 exists. It is retarded but it exists. The asus ares III also exists which is a single block 295x2.

>>51497383

Best Buy. Fry's. Microcenter. Newegg sells them. They're all fucking over Amazon. There seem to be more reference 270's and 290's than there are branded-cooler 270's and 290's.
>>

I honestly find that unlikely given reference hawaii cards basically stopped existing mid-late 2014. There was a brief resurgence when AMD allowed people other than sapphire to slap on 8gb ram for lols, but those were rare.

With what ya'll are saying about the companies phasing them out, I'm wondering if the recent tank in AMD sales means they made so many there's just a ton of first-gen AMD reference cards still floating around, or if they're all b-stock or something. I dunno.

Nope, a GTX 970 will outclass a 390 and even a 390X at 1080p. It trades blows with the 390 at 1440p and only gets beaten at 4K.
A GTX 980 will beat a 390X and even a Fury at 1080p and the 390X at 1440p and 4K.
A GTX 960 on an AMD CPU/APU will do better than an R9 280/380. Same with any AMD paired with an AMD CPU/APU.
A GTX 950 will beat the R7 370 because the 370 is a cu ck card - a three year old GPU with no new design changes.

the 390 is especially a good deal above the 970 given it has 125% more VRAM

and in addition to that Nvidia hates your freedom, and requires your personal information just to download up to date drivers

390 is the only choice at the $300-330 range. Yes it does have way more ram than the 970, but lets face it, the 390 will never use the full 8gb it has, for "future titles" it'll be to slow either way.

Ram isn't the reason why its better than the 970, it just performs better, and very often is priced 30-40$ cheaper than the 970.

Look at hardcore nvidia "shills" like Jay2cents, as much as a nvidia shill he is, he literally has a video saying he'll never recommend a 970 when the r9 390 exists.

And i still think the 750 ti outclasses the r7 360, simply because the majority of 750 ti's don't require a 6pin connection, making it easier to work with and as a better choice for people with shitty pre-builts from walmart
>>
>>51498268
ya but the jump from the 980/Fury to the 980ti is a fair amount for relatively little performance gain especially at 4k

at 1080p/1440p neither a Fury nor 980 are going to hold you back

the only reason to get a 980ti is to SLI them and run games well at 4k

Yeah I have it right now, the stand is by far the shittiest thing about it. It tilts up, but not down which could be an issue if you have a high desk.

Also not VESA compatible so you can't even switch the stand out with another one; not sure what ACER was thinking with that, but I'd rather they cut costs with the stand than the panel itself which performs well.

Except due to newer manufacturing processes the 380/380x(few more cores than 380) can run at higher stock speeds and are therefore faster, in addition to the additional VRAM

Also any 7970 at this point has been beat to hell and that's even if you can get a used card that wasn't used for bit coin mining, of course a new card is going to cost more than a used one

The 4890 was a 4870 that hit higher clocks

the 5770 was rebranded as the 6770, the 6870 was a new card that was equiv to a 5850; the 6970 was the new high end sku.

The 680 was rebranded to the 770, though with higher frequency, especially on memory. The 760 was a cut down of the 680 core to below a 670, while no 670 equiv was released in the 7 series.

I used to be an Nvidia fan. To be honest I do not upgrade that often. I had 2 GTX 260 Core 216s in SLI before I bought my current card, so that should give you an idea about how often I upgrade. When I was building a new system the r9 295x2 was on sale so I bought one for about $600 on Amazon. I could not be happier with this card. I have not had any issues playing any game, I no longer have to disable SLI for certain games. I just set everything to Ultra and go from there. It plays everything extremely well. Of course going from a 6420 to a 4770k probably helps, but that 295x2 is the shit. It consumes some serious power and I upgraded my psu from a thermaltake 750 to a corsair ax 1500 while I was at it but still no complaints. I initially bought a no name 1200w psu and when i hooked it up it fried 4 of my hard drives, so I'm running on scrounged drives from other places right now. Do not cheap out on the psu. No noticeable difference in power bill. My case is much quieter without the twin 260s blasting at 100% during gaming. The 295x2 seems to barely break a sweat playing crysis 3 and witcher 3. Love it to death.

why are you comparing the reference 970 to a the factory OCed 390?

if you're going to compare reference you should compare it to the competitors reference card - in this case a 970 would be aptly compared to the 290

once OCed, the 970 demolishes the 390 and competes with the 390x

Won't DX12 mitigate this at least a bit?
I thought that since the API is more open to direct interaction, the optimisation will rest mostly with game devs again and not so much with driver providers.

I mean look at Mantle, I haven't seen a BF4 specific driver coming out of AMD for a while, but on my 390 it runs on Ultra (1-2 settings on High) at 144fps @1080p almost consistently! On DX11 I need to tune some settings down for that.

Moreover, I would guess that shader caching is NOT what reduces the load times here (fglrx has it, I would guess that it does on Windows too), but optimisations in the shader compiler which lets it compile faster.

Fucking what? You're making an arsenal of yourself mate, you can limit these things in CCC, I'd be very surprised if crimson doesn't have the same option.

I'm sorry but I don't follow, are you saying that you struggle to understand three digits? If that is your criticism, then you could also aim it at nvidia. If the addition of a letter confuses you, then how much harder does it become when you add "ti", which is a whopping two letters?
>>

do you understand the specs of that picture or you just buy anything with the name "ti"

Fair enough.

I work with 3D however, I'd hate for something to break because of this driver.
>>
>>51505791
>or you just buy anything with the name "ti"
I think you've misunderstood. I was mocking the other anon for complaining that AMDs naming scheme is difficult.

As for the specifications, while they may give a rough idea of performance they are in no way the be all and end all. This is easily demonstrated with the 285, which had lacklustre memory bandwidth but made up for it with colour compression, something you'll not find on a spec sheet.
>>
>>51505857
You always have the ability to roll back the driver or simply uninstall it and download the old one. Nothing to lose, much to gain and all that.
>>
kek there are lots of complains of broken stuff on the guru3d forum.

I remember back in 2011 geting a brand new ASUS 7950 3gb from some kid from forum(he fucked up bios but he didn't know there is a switch you could press and have another bios.
So he thought he will fuck me( then 7950 cost around ~350-400?), he gave it to me for 50$(he even wanted to meet with me(so I wouldnt know where he lives), even tho I doxed him to shit before buying), thats not the point.
When I came home, i just swich the trigger , pull out my GTX560Ti and put 7950..

Flavor of the month was Skyrim, anyway, I had solid fps on [email protected] but when I put 7950 in, I saw how much raw power that GPU had, it was like some really muscular, strong, fast horse but dumb as a rock.
I even managed to get ugridstoload=11 with 2k textures without CTD(1 GB VRAM was norm, but people slowly migrated to 2 gb), frames went from ~70-80 on 560ti to some fucked up numbers ~150fps and more on 7950, and 7950 could easily be transformed to 7970 , if you bought right PCB and model).

Anyway, since it was brand new, with box, papers and everything intact I played with it for 2-3 weeks but then sold it for 350 and put 300$ in my pocket.
It was even wierd how fast I sold it, 3 minutes after I gave ad , guy called me, came in 15 minutes and bought it.
It was kinda bittersweet, brain said :sell that shit, price always go down, but heart said:well, this GPU is unnecessary strong, keep it.

But free 300$ is not to waste, its half of monthly paycheck for someone. Also, Skyrim turned to shit really fast...and...well,
its time for AMD to release new HD7XX0 series.
Ill stick with nVidia because its less hassle and you can sell it faster and without losing too much money(it just werks, mostly), but when ATI goes full force(every 5 to 7 years) you buy that shit. Problem is , they are smeared with layers of shit since R# 2x0 re-branding crap began.

I didn't uninstall, I just updated directly.
Also, regarding the drop in FPS - Dirt 3 seems unaffected so it isn't a problem with general 3D performance.

translations folder has files inside for every language

if it's in russian for example you have to rename the qt_ru file to qt_uk and it will be in english after restart
of course make backups just in case

you have to do the same thing in the localisations folder, but there are folders and files in there, you have to rename both

I'm not sure if both are needed but it works until there's a proper option to switch languages...
>>
>>51508856
Thanks.
Renaming the Japanese localization files or folders so that the program can't pick it up seems to do the trick. It just defaults to English then.
