Hey /g/,
university started again and i'll have to print alot in the coming time. Therefor im looking for a cheap and economic printer. I never actually bought one so im kind of lost in the variety of different printer, printer/scanner combos etc.
What are /g/ approved printers, that fit my needs?
(Pic is obviously a printer; type unrelated)

Ink is for morons.

Get a cheap b&w laser printer (brother's are good) and if you need to print in color just use the university's printers.
>>
>>51491943
Whats the average price of a toner for such printers?
>>
I've heard a lot of positive opinions about brother products, but I can't confirm, never owned one.

If you're interested in a cheap and economic printer, buy a monochrome laser printer.

And try to not cheap out, in the era of planned obsolescence cheaping out on it will most probably force you to buy a new one in 2 years tops.

Old HP laserjets were quite reliable.
I currently own a 2002 p2015 model.
It started printing "dirty", but it had a good run imho.

You can buy the generics for like $10 on amazon and they'll last you 2500 pages

Try to research a correct printer model that has a cartridge with a toner refill port.
Then all you have to do is buy toner, which comes in a ~1 litre bottle which will last you some time

>Printer on american Amazon: 79.99$
>Printer on german/european Amazon: 98,00€

>toner on american Amazon: 14.99$
>toner on german/european Amazon: 47,52€

What the heck. When I use the "free shipping™" - how likely is it, that the printer is still working when it arrives here. (Germany)

>Brother HL-L2300D
Thats the cheaper version. They main different is the missing network crap, the LCD display and ... other stuff.
Still worth it?
>>
>>51491907

Get the Brother HL-3170CDW. Laser printer, color, full duplex, decent speed, AirPrint support. What's not to like?
>>
Printing is not green.
I cannot believe there are people this insensitive on such a seemingly liberated site as 4chan. Do you have ANY IDEA how wasteful printing is?
>>
>>51492522
>american
>no recycling
>thinks printing harms the environment more than producing tech out of stuff that the nature will never be able to deal with
Other than that: Pretty decent bait.
>>
>>51492447
>Brother HL-L2300D
No duplex printing, which is a PITA for university
>>
>>51492448
The price of ~320€

>>51492584
Ah I see.. alright.

Is it a dumb idea to look for the HL-L2340DW used on ebay f.e.?
>>
>>51491943
>Ink is for morons.

I agree completely.

Ink dries out when you don't print for a few months. (who prints regularly anymore).
Toners stay good for years.

>>51491996
>Whats the average price of a toner for such printers?

Black is cheap.
Color is expensive.

Buy 3rd party toners. (make sure you buy a printer that has those available).

And remember the toner that comes with the printer will probably be almost empty ("demo toner").
>>
>>51492614

Enjoy going through three $100 inkjet printers throughout your college career because you don't print for three weeks and the ink dries in the print heads. >>51492656, basically. Also, enjoy paying out the nose for ink. It's proportionately more expensive than toner. Inkjet printers are subsidized through ink costs.
>>
>>51492614
>used on ebay

You should also be able to find used printers really cheap, yes.
Perhaps even for free.

Offices often want to get rid of their old printers when changing to a new system.
You could also ask around because companies generally don't bother trying to sell them.

I meant looking for that Brother printer on eBay. You meanie
>>
>>51493624

My bad. Do be aware that the HL-L2340DW is monochrome, though. You might regret that.
