You can order alot of what you want ahead of time and online.

Other then the usual retailers (target, best buy, wal-mart, etc.), and malls, stores aren't as bad as you think they are on opening.

Look for actual deals/look at the ads. If you actually pay attention the past few years have been total shit on black friday deals other then certain retailers (Fry's Electronics is usually solid). This includes looking at smaller places.

That's all I got. Never actually went to a store on opening, never needed to.

I went to a black friday sale once because a friend dragged me to go. I was the only asian in the entire crowd and this is Seattle. I looked through the sale flier while waiting and realized the prices really aren't that much lower than the normal downward trend for electronics pricing anyway.

My friend spent $2000 in crap he didn't really need, and ended up sitting on a bunch of it that he never used while it lost value in his garage. I didn't buy anything until after Christmas, at which point I paid actually even lower prices, and could get free home delivery.

I've never gone to another BF sale, and now I know why none of my other asian friends go to BF sales either.

There are like 4 companies that actually manufacture panels, which are then put into quality bins and sold to manufactures. You could have two large companies using the exact same panel with different cases and hardware.

some companies have different brands (Sceptre for example) for different screen quality levels, somewhat similarly to processor binning.
Others like LG might just use the same brand but use widely varying price-points and panel levels.

websites like rtings and reviews are about the only way to keep track of what's good if you're not willing to spend a decent amount of cash.

If you are, a higher end vizio, Samsung, Sony or LG should be fine.

Alternatively you can be a madman and wait for a Changhong 50' 1080p set to go on sale for like $200.

Its at most 10% off at select few products, maybe 20-40% on an item that has 150% market price. Only good deals are on old products that maybe has 15-50%, mostly four year old routers and toasters.

And then there is usually a selected advertisement item, something that doesn't sell well and they need to get rid of. Like an unpopular i5 CPU model that they then offer at 40% but only for the first 10 customers etc.

Just another ordinary sale that they are trying to bandwagon on to us since its so popular in the US, but all the deals are the same as average year around sales. I can't blame them for it though, margins are very low for retailers in Northern Europe so they wouldn't be able to survive economically if they sold everything off below the cost price.
