Buying anything Nvidia old is never a good idea. They don't give support to older cards, you either play their game or play with a new ATI

The 780 matches the 970 clock for clock (maybe even slightly beats it). Pic related. Reference 780 (863MHz) versus a Gigabyte G1 Gaming 970 (1051MHz). Only 6fps in it. Overclock the 780 by ~200MHz and the advantage is gone.

The main advantage the 970 has is being able to overclock higher on average. A 780 can usually get to ~1200MHz on stock voltage, whereas a 970 can get closer to 1500MHz.
>>
>>51482053
Actually, my mistake. The G1 is actually 1178MHz out of the box, so the clock for clock performance is even further in favour of the 780.

I'm coming from a 560 Ti 1GB, I want to get a modest upgrade for close to $100. Which one do I get?
>>
>>51482147
7950 clear winner
Ive got two and they're on the path to get better with age
>>
>>51482147
Tahiti is GOAT, that's the only and clear answer.
>>
>>51482147
Get the 7950 if you can ensure it not being Memecoin butchered. Stronger Card, (The 660 is more around a 7850) better memory bus, more VRAM.

>>51482246
What happens if it's been mined with? Being an Nvidia guy I don't deal with mining much. By the way I'm worried about any driver situations that await me, not to say that Geforce drivers are amazing.
>>
>>51482273
It could have a shorter life span if it's been mined with.

>>51481078
My friend scored a 290x for $50.
>>
>>51482286
only if they ran it too hot, and even saying that, if it works when you get it is with all odds going to run forever with his use case. I got one of mine used and its perfectly fine (not that my anecdote means anything) just find a seller that at least tries to tell you it was for CAD or games or some shit. Ebay has some sort of buyer protection anyway iirc.
>>
>>51482329
Come to think of it. It might be better to get a card that was used professionally instead of by some retard gamer.

>ITT: Old Generational Cards that are Great-Value

Well, I remember quite a while back when NVIDIA released the 8000 series cards. I mean, they're not really relevant anymore today but they lasted a good three generations or so before they could really be considered obsolete. The 8800 GTX was essentially the blueprint for the 9800 GTX, which contended with the ATi Radeon HD 4870 which was released a while after the 8800 came out. Then along came the GTX 280 and GTX 260, and even then both of those cards weren't markedly better than the 8800 by any significant value.

Astounds me how many different editions of the 8800 were released as well. The 8800 GT, 8800 GTX, 8800 GTS 320 and 640MB editions, 8800 Ultra... man, what a fantastic generation.

Bought this on sale a few years ago, and it still plays most games reasonably well.

Starting to show it's age with some newer titles though. Waiting for 14nm is suffering.
>>
290x $200
280x $75

there's a guy selling a 770 4GB for $100 but i don't really need it, though i could find a use for it.
>>
My 570 is still good enough to play the games I want to play. I honestly don't even care about the new games, maybe I've outgrown gaming but I think it's a combination of that and them all being shit.
>>
>>51482863
I wouldn't say it was a fantastic generation at all, if anything I'd say the opposite.

Zero competition does not bode well for the customer.
>>
>>51482863
I believe it was the first Nvidia series that had CUDA support. AMD didn't become relevant to me again until they went balls deep into OpenCL.

that 280x is an incredible deal
>>
Alright I revised the possibilities.

Powercolor 7950 PCS+ 3G $120
Sapphire 280x 3G $150 (reviews say it's volatile)
Club3D 280x 3G $160 (reviews say it has coil whine)

All 3 I can haggle down a tiny bit. I don't know if I want to stay with Tahiti or get Tahiti XTL for better streaming performance. Considering I'm spending modestly, is the extra $30-$30 worth upgrading to 280x?

Bought this baby for $2 at goodwill. No more stinky onboard audio for me.
>>
>>51484915
I have something similar to this; it'd be great if it just did single-jack stereo sound
>>
Got hd7970(280x, even drivers are identical) for $100. Coils whine like little bitches in 3dmark, silent in games tho.
Pretty good for 1080p, was even able to run star shitizen with high settings.
>>
>>51481137
bullshit they support their old cards they just like to push new shit to make the new cards seem great, none of that tech is needed and old cards even from three generations are seeing improvements from current drivers. stop stale memes now.

lol I'll just wait for big Pascal or Volta. I'm not so delusional to think I can ultra every game forever. It's not like missing out on anything anyways because pc gaming is pretty shit. I think only like 30 games were released this year and the rest are indie shit.
>>
>>51485541
You will be saying that for the next node change.

Fucking pointless.

Get a job, you wouldn't care about such a small thing then.
>>
>>51485581
>for the next node change.

You don't know how this works do you? Next node change won't be for a while, it gets harder as you go on.
>>
>>51485581
Big Pascal will be 6 months away from normal Pascal. Nobody is going to buy a xx80 when the xx80 ti will be out later for a little bit more with twice the performance. But if you wait for the ti you've already waited for 1.5 years and Volta will arrive a year later, with the $350 matching your ti.

You can't win, just accept it.

It bothers me greatly that so much animated porn is in flash, like what the fuck. That one furry facebook game getting $40,000 on patreon. And then that autist that has been working on that Peach flash porn game for 3 fucking years what the goddamn shit are you doing nigger.
>>
>>51485694
Mostly because flash is the only convenient porn format.
1. Runs with little effort since you need flash to youtube
2. 2D, without some huge toolchain
3. Vector scaling is amazing
4. It enables animation loops without any real mess
5. All the other formats(game engine, video, etc) is shit
>>
>>51485929

This exactly. Nothing quite fills the shows of flash.
>>
>>51485929
>Runs with little effort since you need flash to youtube

Flash is bugs and CPU suffering.
>>

>>
>>51485951
I don't disagree. How it gauges weither or not to drop frames is horrible.

>>51485973
Unity isn't drag and drop it just works.
They had the sanity to release a working decent webplayer at the least.
>>
>>51485988
Unity has VR support built in and VR is the future of porn. Q.E.D.
>>
>>51486070
So if I just launch the Attack on Titan fangame, it will just work with VR?
Or does it only work for special applications?

Living in a third world shithole, GPUs are hella expensive even used, and break in a year or two because of the heat.

The solution:
>buy heatgun
>buy broken high end GPUs for close to nothing
>reheat
>enjoy

It can run all games on low actually, the only game that had low frames was ryse and watchdogs.

No. Most on board codecs are excellent. You might need an amplifier for some headphones but a discrete DAC is often useless.
