i5-3570K Ivy Bridge advertised to run at 3.40GHz with a maximum of 4.20GHz but ACTUALLY running 5.12GHz.
Is my computer exploding?
depends, did you overclock?
what does CPU-Z say?
My MOBO had an OC button but IDK how it works.

Gonna hijack this thread a bit.
How long you folks think an i5-3570K would last? The most reasonable point for me to upgrade my hardware is somewhere late 2016. Currently running a GTX660. Would 3570K still be alright and I'd just upgrade the GPU or would it be better to build a completely new pc?

An i5-3570k should last until about 2018/2019.
2022 if you really stretch it.
I'm seriously not joking. a i5-3570k in 2022 will be like a high end core2quad is today. Still perfectly usable.

same here OP, I did OC to 4.1 and windows reports 4.92. nothing to worry about windows is wrong. btw what mobo do you have? I can't get past 4.1 ghz stable oc

What about gaming? I suppose the CPU will not be a limiting factor? I can run the 3570K easily on 4.5Ghz super stable if needed.
