T-Mobile has a new amazing deal that I got recently: $30/m pre-paid, unlimited SMS, unlimited data (First 5GB 4g LTE then throttled), as of recently many streaming services (Netflix, Soundcloud) no longer count towards your data limit. Only thing is: 100 mins. Which doesn't matter if you use VOIP phone.
Theres a trick to get the deal. You have to be a "new subscriber" and you have to get the SIM card at Walmart. They only ask for first name and date of birth. Last name is optional.
Boost Mobile
>>51459793
And when I say "they" I mean the activation line you call once you put the SIM card in your phone, and not Walmart. They dont do anything except ring up the package.

I only get plain old lte where I live. It's not too bad though, I get like 6mbps.

Coverage is great, but data speed is absolute shit. LTE is about 6mbps down
everything everywhere now BT mobile.
>>51460204
>Coverage is great, but data speed is absolute shit. LTE is about 6mbps down
lol why do you people complain about lte speeds so much? 6 Mbps is already 3 times as fast as a good 3g connection. I would be completely fine if I only got 4 Mbps for lte desu.

I'm thinking about switching to them, verizon is fucking garbage. Is the $60 plan really "unlimited"? Like can I use like 100gb in a month or is there a point where they throw a hissy fit even though they advertise "unlimited" data?

unlimited minutes, unlimited text, 1GB LTE data, unlimited "2g speed" data
>>51460534
What I hear is they have a "soft cap" like t-mobile at around 30GB. Basically it means when the network is under stress they will throttle your connection to 4 maybe 2 Mbps until the usage spike washes over. I have the $45 5GB of high speed data plan so I can't confirm the rumour.
Also mobile hotspot is not included in the plans, if you want that you have to pay 10$ for 2GB/month.
>>51460534
at 21GB you get "deprioritized", which may or may not be a problem. It only reduces your speed when there is considerable strain on the tower you're connected to. It seems to genuinely be a network management technique rather than jewing; but you should know about it before switching.
>>51460868
>$40/month "simply prepaid"
>unlimited minutes, unlimited text, 1GB LTE data, unlimited "2g speed" data
That's highway robbery. You should consider joining us at boost mobile. $30 base plan gives you 2GB from the get-go with unlimited text/calling.
>>51460534
>>51460926
Disregard this; for some reason I thought we were talking about t-mobile. Sorry.
>>51460926
21GB? Is this done on all carriers renting sprint towers like cricket and virgin mobile?
>>51460930
well that really does sound good. I know fuck all about mobile shit though; would I still be able to use my current phone? It's an iPhone 6, bought directly from apple; I have no idea whether it's carrier locked or not.

>>51460965
Yeah, you'd have to get a new phone. Boost mobile is cdma. Cheapest spark lte capable phone is the lg volt ($100) iirc. The phone would pay itself after ~6 months of not paying $15 more and you'd get 1GB of extra data each month too however.
You might not like the android platform and buying a new iPhone would cost you more in the end so you have to think about that I guess.
>>51460960
All MVNOs like Virgin, Boost, Cricket, MetroPCS are always deprioritized over branded customers. By having one of these services; you're already experiencing the same service as branded customer who has exceeded the 21GB soft cap.
Just moved to Tele2. 500MB, LTE, paying €10 a month. It's absolute dog shit, Iose service every few hours and have to restart my phone to get it back.
>>51460982
They stopped using sprint networks? Interesting.
straight talk
>>51461053
Interesting, so what speeds should I be getting then? I always stay between the 20-30 Mbps speed range in my city and sometimes up to 40 Mbps at home. I don't use mobile internet that much so 5GB is enough for browsing 4chins and watching a few youtube videos every now and then.

>>51461313
>wireless technology replacing cable technology ever
I sure hope you're never in charge of anything important.
Honestly though, this stupid mentality right here is why US has shitty coverage/plans on all networks - because everything is oversaturated.
There is only so much bandwidth in an assigned frequency block which must be shared by everyone, At least with cable, you're only sharing the cable with a number of other people in your local neighbourhood, not an entire cell - ADSL and Fiber are even better, you don't have to share with anyone (well atleast until you get back to the ISP)

BOINGO WIRELESS
>>51462962
*1 Gbit/second
In theory a 5G network could deliver that if towers had enough fiber connections. However due to the sheer cost of such a system 8-24 Mbps unmetered internet connections would be completely doable.
If carriers gave users unmetered mobile and hotspot usage then companies like Comcast would be under serious heat and could possibly go bankrupt.

But their data sucks...
>>51463051
How? Their site says it is $45 for 5GB of high-speed data, at which point it reverts to 2G speeds
I have unlimited data on my phone and 5GB of tethering on top of that.
Verizon with unlimited data though I'll have to figure out if it's still worth keeping after they change my rate from $60 to $80.
Talkmore. Got their cheapest plan last year. Checked recently and their cheapest plan now is 4-5 times more expensive than the one I'm on. Seems like everyone is replacing their cheapest plans with "smartphone plans" with included data and sms. I don't care about that. I just want a cheap basic plan.
