Aww, that's so nice. The rear fan is actually green, it's one of the case fans, Nanoxia deep silence. It's just there because I was too lazy to buy proper fans for the case, 7 expensive fans on the rads are enough, I just re-used what I had here for the rest.
>>
>>51459174
Just that mine is probably twice or 3x the volume, lol. How are alphacool rads? I heard some stuff about them being dirty when you buy them, the EK rads barely had any loose solder or dirt in them. I'm actually a complete WCing newb, the pic in the OP is my very first watercooled build.

Nice and clean, 9/10. Meme-fans but they are pretty good, so whatever.
>>
>>51459881
I bet it's perfect for you, but compared to the effort some other people put into their build it's probably a 6.5/10. I don't want to sound like an asshole here, your build is perfectly fine and, as I said, probably 100% perfect for you, but there are some people who just go the extra mile or two to make it phantastic, and the higher ratings are basically reserved for them at this point.
>>
>>51459199
Ahh, I see. Thanks for the info!

Thanks. Yea, the AIO is pretty lackluster for guts I know. But, Corsair basically designed the 250d to fit like a glove with the H100i, and it works pretty wonderfully with the way the case airflow is. I have no complaints with it at all.

>>51459881
Good build man. You should get a different cpu cooler and some black ram though. Would make a positive aesthetic difference in your build.

Deciding between a 512gb 950 pro m.2 ssd or an 1TB 850 EVO. Theyre the same price at microcenter. As a game drive, will I see any real world difference in load times?

>inb4 someone pokes fun at my RAID card

It does it's job well and has shown no signs of failing.

Also anyone get the new jurassic park yet? Gonna go buy it on bluray right now actually.
>>
>>51460552
If you buy the 950 pro, definitely get a small heatsink for it. Those drives get hot as fuck. Samsung doesn't give a shit about temps for some reason for their m.2 SSDs.
>>
>>51460552
New jurassic Park is good. Not as good as the originals, but still damn good. Good special effects.

I seriously doubt you'd see any noticeable difference in game loading times between the two drives. I'd get the 1TB 850.
>>51460612
Also what this anon said.
>>
>>51460482
I'll have to think about the RAM. I didn't really aim for the colors working like that, but it really is the odd piece out. The CPU cooler was primarily a price aim. I would have gone stock for the time being except the processor didn't come with one. I'll probably find something in a few months when money starts building back up. Also thinking about getting sleeved cables for the PSU. Can't decide on black or white

You're motherboard doesn't natively support the 950 PRO out of the box. You need to update your BIOS to the latest version (should be after October 2015) and buy a PCIe 3.0 4x M.2 adapter card. You can only fully utilize the 950 PRO using that adapter, not the M.2 slot built into your motherboard (yours is PCIe 2.0 2x M.2). It will still work in that slot, but at less than half of the 950's total bandwidth.

The adapter card is the only way to add heatsinks to the NAND >>51460612
There are no places to permanently and safely secure the heatsink onto the M.2 drive itself. Trust me, I've tried on my SM951.
>>
>>51462583
And the 950 PRO will eat into the same PCIe 3.0 lanes that your graphics card runs on, so it will reduce your card's bandwidth to 8x and prevent you from doing SLI (minimum PCIe lanes is 8x, but you'll only have 4x left over after installing the PCIe M.2 adapter).

With that in mind, do you still think the 950 PRO is worth the money?
>>
>>51462642
>prevent you from doing SLI (minimum PCIe lanes is 8x, but you'll only have 4x
Is that some sort of software limitation? Because 3.0 4x (2.0 8x) is fast enough for basically any graphics card.
>>
>>51462696
Nvidia doesn't allow it, it works just fine for AMD cards.

Now with 50% more poo fans. Installed theml fan and the USB PCIe card today. Still waiting on the light bars to arrive. I'll take better pics once they're installed.
>>
>>51462696
No it's hardware limitation. Your CPU can only handle so many pcie lanes. That's why those high end processors that support like 40 lanes are so expensive.
>>
>>51462732
>didn't read the question
>>
>>51462725

that's really nice build

but what do you all those usb ports for?
>>
>>51462583
According to ASUS's site, my motherboard is an M-key.

1 x M.2 Socket 3, , with M Key, type 2260/2280 storage devices support (PCIE mode)

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z97AR/specifications/

>A "B key" can utilize up to two PCI-E lanes while a "M key" can use up to four PCI-E lanes

https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Overview-of-M-2-SSDs-586/

I may still require a BIOS flash, but I can get the full bandwidth without the adapter thing. ASUS also mentioned that all of their Z97 and X99 chipset boards are good to go for nvme.

I mainly got it for the internal connection. Both onboard USB2.0 headers are occupied; one is by the H100i, the other by the ROG OC Panel I have in the top optical bay. Consequently, I couldn't hook up the USB2.0 ports on my case. Sometimes I need them, so I decided to pick up a cheap $10 USB3.0 card and $5 adapter cable so I could hook them up.
It's also nice to have more USB3.0 ports at the back since all of the ports on the back of my motherboard are full.
At this point I'm wondering if the light bars will fuck up the look.
Here's a bonus pic of the cabling at the back. I didn't bother to clean it up today, maybe I will at some point though.
>>
>>51462642
oh and if a device is plugged into the pcie 2.0 x 16 slot or any type of m.2 device, it is automatically made to take from the 2nd pool of pcie lanes. The pcie 2.0 lanes from the PCH chip on the motherboard, not the pcie 3.0 lanes from the CPU.

http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1283367

Just one of the first results from google i pulled. Sure there are better sources.
>>
>>51462696
Oh shit, I didn't realize that he had a PowerColor card.
In that case, he can still Crossfire, but only add one more card (4x lanes minimum).

It's not a software limitation, but a limitation imposed by Nvidia themselves. SLI can only function if it detects 8x available lanes for an additional card, or else it will not detect the additional card at all.
All Z97 chipset boards have 16x PCIe 3.0 lanes that connect right to the CPU rather than passing through the southbridge. Most standard Z97 boards do not have additional PCIe 3.0 lanes, but PCIe 2.0 8x lanes. High-end Z97 boards that are 3-way SLI compatible have an additional controller that adds more PCIe 3.0 lanes, but through the southbridge rather than adding more going to the CPU. It's not perfect, but it works.
>>
>>51463060
yes but as I said in >>51462942, The Z97 chipset is usually set by default to make m.2 ssds use the pcie 2.0 lanes from the motherboard. Unless I have a pcie ssd that looks like a GPU plugged into a pcie 3.0 slot, the pcie 3.0 x16 lanes from the CPU aren't touched.
>>
>>51462787
>M-key
That would still be PCIe 2.0 4x, which is almost exactly half the bandwidth of what that 950 PRO can use. There is only one Z97 board that I know of that can use the 950 PRO to its full bandwidth, and that's the ASRock Z97 Extreme6. They have an ASMedia chip that allows additional PCIe 3.0 lanes to connect to the chipset. All other Z97 boards are still using the PCIe 2.0 lanes allocated natively on the chipset.

And as a former SM951 and current 950 PRO user, let me just say that you probably will never need an SSD like this. I'm having trouble pushing these things to their full potential editing compressed videos at 1440p and 4K. Even using the 950 PRO as a compressed 4K video preview disk doesn't cause the thing to break a sweat. They are insanely fast, but only when the applications can use those speeds accordingly.

Playing games or loading programs from it is a huge waste, since the difference in seconds is not offset by the doubled cost per GB. You will, at best, shave off three seconds over a 850 EVO when starting up and executing Adobe Premier Pro. Games? Negligible. Faster read speeds are not proportional to the reduction in loading times, as the faster you go, the less of a difference you'll notice.

You are better off with a 1TB 950 EVO.

If you use the PCIe 2.0 slots or the native M.2 slot, then the drive will throttle itself to half speed. You'll still get a fast SSD, but at a significant cost over a normal SATA SSD with little benefit. I'd say its a waste.
>>
>>51463160
that was what I was going to go for. The 850 EVO 1TB. It is $10 cheaper than the 512gb 950 pro m.2.

And hurrr I forgot pcie 2.0/3.0 differences. 2.0 is roughly half the bandwidth of 3.0 at the same level. pcie 2.0x4 = pcie 3.0x2.
