No, it's attached.
There is enough room between the bay and the top to fit a normal drive.
It's tight, but it's by no means difficult to slide a drive in and out.

A local shop in wa had this guy who was crazy into modding and used to work for ati before amd purchased them, he had a prototype card were the 2 sets of 2gb vram had been replaced with 2 sets of 8gb vram, the bandwidth is lower by about 20gbs a second but the card has been oc'd a decent ammount, the 690 shows 8 gb total memory ( why it dosent show 16gb I havent a clue) but it works much better than my origional 690, its been oced by 800mhz for both gpu cores and rund most 1080p games on ultra, ones that use more than 6 gb of vram drop to 0 fps for some reason (usually tests in blender and cryengine) but 5 gb run fine, overall its a beast of a card, ill make a thread and post pics when I get it back as of right now its with my friend being set up for liquid cooling, so I have a 660ti in its place temporarily
