I have no idea why people go for Nvidia at the low price point market. There's just no reason to get anything below a 970, and even that's a stretch since a 290x can be found for much cheaper nowadays.

Both of them will average about 60 FPS (note that this test is from before AMD released drivers for Fallout 4) and neither provide a minimum framerate above 60 FPS to ensure there are no drops. You can't run more than 60 anyway because vsync is forced on in this game and turning it off fucks things up. Also, framerates are still going to improve for both on future driver updates, meaning they will be essentially the same.

Now, outside Fallout 4 the 380/380X is still a vastly better option. And you get better DX12 support in the future. Below the GTX 980 level, AMD is the better choice.

That's true, but you can get around it by tweaking the .ini files so that you can run driver level vsync, instead of the in game. which you should do because the In game vsync is trash.

Well, on both cases, you won't get more than 60 FPS anyway (unless you have a 144 Hz monitor, in which case you get 72 FPS and a 20% speed-up in the game). So there's no point in buying a card that averages 90 FPS on max settings, for example.

Actually, the funny thing is the ingame vsync is only trash on nVidia.

While most everything else in that game is fucked on AMD, the ingame vsync actually, just werks.

Disabling godrays is just for the Kepler customers that were fucked over by Nvidia.

I have a 2gb 7850 and can play FO4 pretty well. With godrays off and 16x I goet 60fps inside, and 40-50+ almost everywhere except urban areas or bad weather where it can occasionally drop to 20-30.

How much worse does 8x look? Might be worth a try to see if it helps performance out even more.

I haven't tried Fallout 4, but if it's the same as The Witcher 3, then 16x makes zero visual difference and 8x makes a tiny one that you can only notice by taking a screenshot and zooming in the picture to compare pixels.

The difference gets more noticeable at 8x if you're using higher resolutions like 4K, but if you have a 7850 you obviously don't play at 4K.
