Well for one, it's outputting to WASAPI, so if you're on Linux that clearly won't work.

ao=wasapi if you're on linux
>>
>>51444375
Why would you want it visible when you're not using it?
I'm glad that MPC-HC has the option to autohide windowed as well now, for those that use it. Because that's much more sensible due to consistency.
>>

Thanks guys.
>>
>>51444454
When I'm watching something windowed, it's usually a youtube video or something and I'm doing other shit at the same time, so it's useful to be able to see the progress without having to move my mouse over. When I'm fullscreen I'm usually watching a film or a movie, where seeing the progress bar is a distraction, especially in dark scenes.
>>
>>51443864
>display-fps=60.0
Why can't MPV measure your refresh rate? It's unlikely to be exactly 60.0. MPV measures it no problem on Linux.
>>
>>51444684
I think there's some script that can use an ffmpeg probe for accurate refresh rate detection on Windows

How come mpv is single-instance on Mac but opens multiple windows on Windows (hurr)?

How do I get it to open whatever I open in the same window I already have?
>>
>>51449246
That's the console version for Windows. If you open a file or web video using mpv.exe in the command line it will play, but the command window won't show you any of the information about what it's doing. mpv.com will. Pop open command prompt in your installation folder and type "mpv.com" and then a URL for a YouTube video or something. It outputs a lot more information.

>How come mpv is single-instance on Mac but opens multiple windows on Windows (hurr)?
I think it's because OS X only allows one instance of the process per-bundle and mpv only allows one instance of the player per-process, but I'm not entirely sure. It's definitely an artifact of how bundles work on OS X rather than an intentional feature though.

>How do I get it to open whatever I open in the same window I already have?
On Windows, I don't think this is possible yet. On Linux you can use make file associations against the umpv script.

>>
>>51450406
guess that's not happening
>>
>>51450579
>How come MPCHC can do it though? Would mpv devs need to implement this?
Yeah, it's definitely possible to do on Windows, but you don't get it for free like I think you do on OS X. It's would be a bit of a pain to implement because you'd need a way for the second instance of mpv to know it's the second and to pass its list of options to the first instance, and JSON IPC doesn't work yet on Windows.

>Do they give any shit at all about Windows?
Some do, but I guess you need the intersection of people who give a shit about Windows, people who give a shit about single-instance mode and people who think mpv is the best place to implement it, rather than a libmpv GUI or an external script. Single-instance mode doesn't gel well with command-line usage, so it would need to be some special thing that only happened when mpv was launched from a file association.
>>
>>51450671
there seems to be some caring about windows, they have been adding ANGLE support in the latest commits although it's far from usable right now
>>
>>51450691
Yes. ANGLE is something to get hype about if you're on Windows. Windows' crappy support for OpenGL is the source of like 90% of mpv bugs. With ANGLE, mpv will no longer depend on shitty Windows OpenGL drivers and things like perfect VSync/frame-timing and non-exclusive fullscreen will just work.

Just need these things to get fixed (either with new ANGLE extensions or by finding ANGLE/GLES3 compatible workarounds.)
<wm4> so now ANGLE has feature parity with real GL, except 10 bit input, ICC profiles, and nnedi
>>
>>51450799
>>Windows' crappy support for OpenGL is the source of like 90% of mpv bugs. With ANGLE, mpv will no longer depend on shitty Windows OpenGL drivers and things like perfect VSync/frame-timing and non-exclusive fullscreen will just work.

Literally the only problem I have ever had with mpv has been shitty Display-Sync timing. It flat out doesn't work at all for me. Audio desyncs after just a few seconds. I even have a pretty beefy PC.

I'm hoping Angle or whatever it is will fix that.
>>
>>51450799

>>
>>51444053
doesn't the second instance of alang= overwrite the first? Why have both?
>>
>>51450847
It's not in a release build yet, so you'll have to build it yourself, and getting ANGLE DLLs, headers and implibs that work is a whole fucking process (the ones in MSYS2 don't work.)

The ANGLE DLLs from Chromium nightlies and the headers from the ANGLE GitHub repository work, so if you know how to use dlltool to make an import library, you should be able to build it yourself. If not, just wait for it to be in a release. If someone else here knows what to do and can provide builds, that would be good too (I'm not set up to make release builds right now.)

As an advanced users I really prefer mpv. The docs, source, ... just amazed.
So why anime fags prefers mpc-hc/madvr/xysubfilter?
Maybe mpv needs an installer like lavmegamix or kcp?

because they're fucking retarded and can't think for themselves. every guide recommends mpc-hc so that's what they use

Not sure why anime users in particular prefer MPC-HC+, but I personally prefer it for SVP on any machine that can handle it.
Waiting impatiently for a vapoursynth version of that.

Anyone know if there's a way for timestamps to always show the milliseconds? I know it's a simple as just clicking the timestamp, but is there something I can add to my config to make my mpv experience even more lazy? I make webms here and there and whenever I'm trying to find the exact time, I constantly have to click the timestamp for each video.

Supposedly, you can compile it into ffmpeg and back channel its usage through lavfi.
mpv --af=lavfi=[bs2b=profile=jmeier] video.mkv

Can not verify it though because of compile issues.
>>
>>51443711
Ok, here's your chance at making another convert. I've considered using mpv many times since its meme status. It always seemed like an unnecessary time sink. I like it conceptually in every other way.
Does it come with a default configuration file populated with options that are half decent, or anything close to what 99% of users would configure it to?
Is it intuitive and quick to install for the majority of PC users? What about updates?
For the sake of this discussion let's assume I'm on my windows laptop.
If you get butt-hurt and tell me I just need to do things your way or like what you like, then you're just confirming yourself for a /g/ autist.

Because for every weeb who's actually competent and knows even one true fact about video quality/programming there are 100 that are just bottom of the barrel retarded because finding/watching anime on the internet is so fucking easy that it doesn't require thinking.

Just keep in mind that people think Coalgirls are the best BD group out there because they do the most "encoding". And that there are people who seriously think there's nothing wrong with HS.

>>
>>51457407
If the BD was mastered shit at 1080p it will stay shit. Some encoders opt to upscale it to a higher resolution with nnedi3 then downscale it back to 1080p to get a smoother pic but you can lose fine details with that procedure.
>>
>>51457513
That ringing and aliasing is fixable though, at least to an extent. If you didn't want to take the time to do that filtering then why do a 1080p encode in the first place? They already did a 720p encode, they can tell scrubs who think resolution = quality to fuck off. What are they gonna do, download it from someone else? Oh no!
>>
>>51444852
Does anyone know what this movie is?
>>
>>51457285
Coalgirls don't do translations. They just use the subs from other groups.
>>
>>51457939
They retime them for BDs and do typesetting, it's usually pretty good, though their choice of translations can sometimes be retarded. Most "fansubbing" these days is just modifying CR scripts.
>>
>>51457996
Commie still translates from scratch, but you're right. Even UTW didn't bother to translate it themselves by the end.
>>
>>51458054
Commie is also retarded for not dropping TV completely and working on BDs.

I'm not saying CR has good translations, but at least they don't try to localize stuff like "onee-san" to "sissy".

>>
>>51458266
Well first of all you should not need to download codec packs to play back videos. Mpv uses ffmpeg as a demuxer which can play almost any video file known to man.

Second of all, MPC still requires lavfilters, and madVR to match the quality of mpv, since by default MPC has no where near the quality of mpv in terms of features. And even with madVR, while the quality is comparable the quantity of options and the customization options of mpv are far better than MPC-HC+madVR.

So while mpv is not actually significantly better than KCP, it does more for less.
>>
>>51458266
These old codec packs are completely useless, we are in 2015.
I think you should read the manual a little to understand more what make mpv so awesome.
This is an advanced media player with pretty good default configurations.

softvol
>>
>>51458266

Why do people bother with these faggy codec packs? Default MPC-HC comes with a reasonably up to date version of the lav filters.

If you're really autistic, you can manually install madvr and xyvsfilter.
>>
>>51443764
>He can have MPC working out of the box with MadVR+Lav filters using KCP
> he has better image quality than you can currently achieve with mpv
>>
>>51458489
KCP already comes with MadVR configured for the best quality.
Its just easier if you're doing a fresh install.
>>

Using vdpau return me the error 'VO does not support requested hardware decoder, or loading it failed.' even if all the libraries are installed, what can I do/use instead?
>>
>>51458566
Except you don't because madVR+MPC is, at best, equal to mpv. What does madVR have that mpv doesn't? NNEDI3? Who cares, NNEDI3 has garbage efficiency compared to ewa_lanczos.
>>
>>51458958
jinc3 looks better than nnedi3 most of the time anyway, nnedi3 is retarded with fine shit like grass and trees
>>

it has nnedi3 and superxbr but they're broken to the point where people just say they aren't features of mpv yet
