1. The fact that it's hacked together using different parts of gnome and its own in house stuff. Just use all of your own shit and stop piggy backing on gnome2 and/or gnome3. In addition, the fact that it requires some QT programs alongside GTK. What the fuck is wrong with them?
2. The amazon searching
3. Canonical's blatant lack of care for privacy
>>
>>51441404
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Unity, is in fact, Amazon/Unity, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Amazon plus Unity. Unity is not a desktop environment unto itself, but rather another nonfree component of an otherwise fully functioning GNU system that is extended by the Amazon search functionality, rental utilities and spyware components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Yeah I've never understood the screen tearing argument. I've only noticed it on Xfce, which I don't use, and I don't see why it's important anyway. It's like these people just sit there moving windows around their desktop and nerdraging / crying all day.

Decent graphics drivers have this shit implemented in it. You're basically complaining about compositors which every competent DE has (KDE for one).

It's too user-friendly, any noob can pick it up in a couple of minutes. When I use Unity, I loose that tingly feeling of superiority over Windows users.

That's why I don't use a GUI.

That's why I've always got a screenfetch window visible showing off my riced Arch install with i3.

Not customizable. Even windows allows you to move taskbar around yet for some reason Canonical decided to lock down everything they could.
Also Unity is hated mostly due it it's bad history. If you were around back when Ubuntu switched from gnome2 to Unity you would know what I'm talking about. Unfortunately for Canonical fuckups like that are not forgotten easily.

Use an icon theme, learn to use the keyboard shortcuts and compiz config manager to adjust it t oyour needs and you've got a great DE, the hate is based only on vocal arch faggs who still think Linux is a secrit l33t club.

Unity has nothing to do with Gnome. editor and file explorers are not part of a DE and Canonical forked them only after upstream was unwilling to accept their patches for bullshit political reasons. (we don't like that your patches mention Canonical)

arguably only Compiz (Unity) and libmutter (Gnome 3) are decent X.org compositors. KWin (KDE Plasma 4) would be decent, too. but KDE Plasma 5 was released in alpha-state and KDE Plasma 4 support stopped.

if you then have to choice between Unity and Gnome 3. Unity at least is still window-centric and not application-centric like its primary focus are touchscreen users.

nope, compositing is the purview of the compositor. hacking it into graphic drivers is not something you want. it's not done in any other OS and won't be done for Wayland.

nah, i agree

although i'm starting to warm up to it... unity as a whole, that is. i just don't like the default theme. and i still think a dock on the left is stupid; at least let us change it ... and yeah, the search lens crap, it's a nice idea, but it's TOO BIG, it should be the size of OSX's spotlight.

and there should be no fucking bubbles in the background on the dock. this shit made sense on iOS because it's a small screen and you needed all the space there was. the icons in unity don't even fill out the bubble. so gimmicky.

Meh

>comfy to search for application with dash
I find the dash to be a little too big for my liking. I'd rather something that doesn't take up half my screen.

It's far from perfect but has come a long way since when Ubuntu first switched from gnome 2. Those were dark times.

There are a couple of other things that annoy me:
- Why the fuck can't I move the launcher. Also not very customisable in general.
- Fucking amazon. I can opt out, but still.
- The desktop I run it on now is rather snappy but I remember running Unity on a netbook in its early days and it was unbearably sluggish.
- It's not i3. I kinda miss my minimal install with i3.
>>
>>51441404

this. there's not a single option to change the appearance of the search / lenses thing

>>
>>51441404
when you install numix or any other icon theme, it has no animation in the UI. literally feels like clicking .jpg images in a html page.

It gets slower with time like Windows, it has two taskbars which consumes too much space and Ubuntu very little customization options through unity tweak tool. They have locked down so many options like moving the open/close buttons to right or changing mouse cursor.

Xubuntu + Compton is the shit. Its like XP but only better and with newer software.
