Greetings, /g/.

I am trying to update the gaming screen section, as it is woefully out of date.

Should I have a couple of 60Hz options, or throw them away?

Are there any good screens that I have missed? Do I have any screens in there that I should take out? Any info wrong or missing?

Your feedback would be appreciated.
>>
Suggestions, comments, and criticism would be most welcome.
>>
Anyone?
>>
Its too soon to ask falcon, people are probably busy/sleeping.

Sounds like a good idea because gaming screen doesn't mean 144Hz screen, people would be looking for screens with low delay.
>>
>>51438093
>people are probably busy/sleeping.
I waited till it was midnight here, thinking that the USA would be awake.

Thanks for the bump though, anon. I appreciate it.
>>
Can someone point the actual difference between 60hz and 144hz and why is it so important. Is it worth the price increase? In my country a 1080p 144hz monitor costs 40% more than a 60hz one.
>>
>>51438117
I cannot, but you can compare 30FPS to 60FPS, and then note than 120FPS is double that!

https://boallen.com/fps-compare.html
>>
>>51438117
More "Smooth" experience if your PC is strong enough.

Not that great for a normal user but is nice to have.
Mostly not worth it, atleast for me.
>>
Do you have any plans to add different prices based in the country to the screens, mouses and keyboards like with the part list?

Any plans to add speakers and headphone lists?
Or etc lists?
>>
>>51438115
Its 10:00 AM in the west coast btw.
>>
>>51438195
>Do you have any plans to add different prices based in the country to the screens, mouses and keyboards like with the part list?
Yes, but not in the near future. I need to finish audio first, and I have no idea how long that will take. Also in the process of rebuilding the site from scratch (to make it load faster), and to redesign the header to make it more friendly.

>Or etc lists?
Laptops have been the #1 asked for guide. Will try and go for that, if possible.
>>
>>51438203
Should I try again in a couple of hours?
>>
Why so many 1440p displays and no UHD ones?
>>
>>51438369
better kill yourself with your spam
>>
>>51438393
There are no 120/144Hz UHD screens.
>>
>>51438447
So?
>>
>>51438538
This is about gaming screens.
>>
>>51438117
Depends if you value high framerates. If you were wowed when you went from 30fps to 60fps, 144fps(hz) is more than that.

You even notice it on windows. Cursor, scrolling and windows move smoother.

Of course this has downsides, it is al preferences. You need a deep pocket for a IPS 144hz monitor.

And the TN ones (I have ASUS VG248QE), the colors are really bad even if you follow a guide to correct the colors.
>>
>>51438538
the thread's about gaming screens.
if they're better for gaming it's because they have better refresh/gtg rates.

is it hard to get?
>>
>>51438543
Oh, games won't run on anything under 120Hz. I didn't know that. Thanks.
>>
>>51437607
you should remove all the TN screens. then you should kill yourself
>>
>>51438626
Games do. This about gaming screens, not games. 60Hz screens are the norm, whereas gaming screens are much higher.
>>
>>51438637
And replace them with what?
>>
>>51438637
Good on you that you can pay $600 for a monitor.
>>
>>51437607
>Gaming memes
Fuck off >>>/v/
>>
Any feedback on whether or not to keep the two cheap 60Hz options?
>>
>>51438902
They indeed fit under the gaming screen section because the low latency, but at same time they fit under the normal screen section because they are good and cheap.

Why not both?
>>
>>51437607
Could separate them. Casual gaming screens and competitive gaming screens. 144hz
>>
>>51437607
>acer xb027hu earlly batches have bad qc

so the newer ones are okay? i was looking at this monitor but the light bleed issue looks bad
>>
>>51438941
>Why not both?
Both keeping them, and cutting them off, are logical.

I chose the best two "gaming" screens that are at 60Hz, for the input lag and the pixel response time. Some people cannot afford 120/144Hz, so this is the best cheap alternative choice. One can argue that there should be an option for those whose budgets are below $200.

Some people will argue that any 60Hz screen is a normal screen, and that there is no point in having a gaming section if we include 60Hz in it. That is also a logical argument.

What do?

>>51438947
I already have a section for normal screens. Will update that later. Question is whether to keep the 2 cheap 60Hz options in the gaming section.
>>
>>51438637
>less response time
>more ghosting
>more expensive
>literally the only advantage is that you can look at your screen from stupid angles and not have the colours distort (why?)

gg
>>
can someone tell me why the fuck they can miniaturize and put an amazing OLED or IPS 4K screen in a phone that ALTOGETHER costs 300 - 600 dollars, whereas a pathetic 1440 monitor TN panel with much less pixel density costs the same amount or more?

Are computer monitors a scam?
>>
>>51437607
You misspelled gaymen
>>
>>51439014
I already have a 1920x1080 144Hz monitor for gaming, but would like a second for games that don't support 4x4 SGSSAA correctly and that supports 4k content, or just single player. Most games run at 30-50 fps with that AA. There are lots of gaming 4k monitors.
>>
>>51439008
From what I read, many people who bought the screens as soon as they came out had problems with light bleed, and a few with dead pixels. Reading the recent posts in forums, it seems that people who are buying now are happy, so it could be that Acer now has tighter quality control. I could not find any reliable source stating that the issues have definitely been solved, but I also could not ignore an obviously well reviewed gaming screen, so added it and added a warning.
>>
if you get rid of 60hz get rid of 1080 too, they are both at the same level of depreciation. If YOU aren't going to encourage people to move on, who will? someone has to be the shill
>>
>>51438902
I don't think most people care terribly much about having refresh frequency higher than 60 Hz. I could be wrong, of course, but to me it seems that even the people who have the GPU power to spare prefer to use it for better visual fidelity rather than getting the framerate much past 60.
>>
>>51439062
I have my doubts about buying screens too because some reviews like those about bleed and motherboards with problems.

Am i being too paranoid?
>>
>>51439061
>There are lots of gaming 4k monitors.
There are lots of very good 60Hz 4K monitors. To the best of my knowledge, there are no consumer screens that do 4K at more than 60Hz.
>>
>>51439094
There is no cable that can do [email protected] iirc.
>>
>>51439088
>Am i being too paranoid?
No, you are watching out for yourself. These screens are _very_ expensive, and anyone would be disappointed to spend so much $$$ just to get a faulty screen.

If you live in NA/Europe, you can always RMA though.

>>51439080
Not everyone can spend $500 on a screen...

...but I am now leaning more towards removing the 60Hz options, and just adding them in the infoboxes below.

>>51439085
Hardcore/professional gamers do.
>>
>>51439108
DisplayPort 1.3 does 4K at 120Hz, unless Google is trolling me.
>>
>>51439033
They are, see shit like g-sync or whatever.

We're lucky we even get VESA mounts as a standard. Otherwise manufacturers would use their proprietary mounts.
>>
>>51439129
>Hardcore/professional gamers do.
I don't think "hardcore"/professional gamers buy sub $200 screens anyway. So is your guide directed to the hardcore gamers or to the general populace?
>>
>>51439085
people with that gpu power probably can get the framerates much past 60 while getting the better visuals at the same time though. if you are buying the best computer possible then you probably want the best peripherals too
>>
>>51439085
I don't think 100+ FPS really matters for many games, but lower input latency is a nice thing.

Also, the few 144 Hz IPS panels have been showing significantly faster response times compared to 60 Hz ones. I think their overdrive can afford to be much more aggressive without overshooting when the panel is being refreshed so fast.
>>
>>51439175
Even with a 980ti or Fuxy X, you'll have hard time maxing out the more demanding new titles and getting more than 60 FPS, especially if you're using 1440p screen.
>>
>>51439166
But they do through, At least CSGO pros, they use shit like ASUS VG248QE and BenQ panels.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UaM765-S515ibLyPaBtMnBz7xiao0HL5f-F1zk_CSF4/edit#gid=1762004852

Sometimes color accuracy and muh vewing angles don't matter and just want highest refresh and lowest possible latency. Or maybe they own two different monitors.
>>
>>51439166
>So is your guide directed to the hardcore gamers or to the general populace?
Hardcore gamers. That settles that then.

Will any speak up for the 60Hz options, or...
>>
>>51439232
I would say keep them but aren't they in the normal screen section anyway?
Just add in the description in the normal section that they can be used for gaming.
>>
Asus MG279Q

1440p 27" 144hz screen for 600 euros

worth it?

>>
>>51439312
>aren't they in the normal screen section anyway?
One of them is. The other is TN, and only has the response time going for it, so it may not make it.

RIP.
>>
What are the main differences of TN and IPS screens?

Should high herz screen be TN or IPS?
>>
>>51439424
TN = Mature technology, Way better response/latency times than IPS, way cheaper than IPS, bad viewing angles (your monitor is supposed to be in front of you anyway so it doesn't matter).

IPS = Mid-High response times, good viewing angles, better looking colors.
>>
>>51439424
TN has shittier colours, but IPS screens generally have higher response time and IPS is generally more expensive.
>>
>>51439459
I think I'll look for IPS then, i like colors.

It is 2:40am here, so I am off to bed. Gaming screens have been updated, and I will hopefully update normal screens next.

Thanks /g/.

And if you have any more comments, suggestions, or criticisms, please post. I will check this thread in the morning.

What about the Acer H236HL? You can OC it to 75Hz and it's affordable IPS.

Affordable IPS with higher than 60Hz refresh minus the autistic prices.

Most*

It actually supports 75Hz in the specs it just doesn't do it out of the box. Not sure why they chose to do that.

anything without a scaler (this gets rid of pretty much every normie brand/option)
IPS
has the ability to be overclocked
2560x1440 or above

What's a scaler in context of monitors/screens?

I'm about to finish a build, what if i use a old 2006 CRT screen for it? (Trinitron E-100).

Take a look at this

scales the image up or down. this is the reason you can't connect a macbook to some of the korean IPS displays (and if you do, you'd get letterboxing/black borders).
the benefit is a large reduction in input lag
>>
>>51439675
The processor that lets it scale non-native res to fill the screen. Badly implemented ones can cause several frames of latency even when fed with native res signals.

Then again, the Korean poverty monitors without them tend to also lack calibration, proper brightness controls and other useful things.

>>51439232
Remove the 60hrtz ones; they are absolutely worthless when it comes to competitive games. More hrtz and fps means smoother movements and accuracy. And it looks better.

Bad idea to give people the impression that 60hrtz is okay

Nigga, while the PG279Q is going to be fucking immense, the ASUS PG348Q and ACER X34 are going to be even better.

But since I'm not a poor fag, I can't tell you what else to add on the lower ends of the spectrum.
>>
>>51439564
>OC panels
Stop buying those. And when you overclock you lose graphical fidelity and thus would be much ideal to get a avarage looking 144hz panel versus an "overclockable" 120Hz korean IPS panel.
