Anons, I'm screwed.

My robotics team has deemed me to be programming (java) leader. Thing is, I do not know how to program. I did program last year but I had no idea what I was doing, I cheated on everything and relied on others to do my work.

And these nigg noggs assigned me to teach a group and schedule meetings and teach them how to program! HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSE TO DO THIS. I can't program for shit.

Can I get a /g/ approved guide or crash course to get me back on track?

We use really basic Java, and I need halp.

Thank god it is my last year.

>inb4 shitpost
this is not a shitpost, It's the real deal, I'm fucking screwed. I'm smart and I'm sure I can teach myself a programming language pretty fast. I just never gave a shit. Now I do as I do not want to disappoint.

Thanks anons.

I actually had the same issue back when I was in your shoes, ended up using labview kek and it worked way better than when the one mentor who was also an asshole kept pushing C++/Java.

Seriously that guy was an ass he was never satisfied

Anyways chiefdelphi has bunch of resources, also here's a playlist I saved a while back that could help you out, uses robotbuilder which should be included when you download the WPI Library IIRC.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7PaYcjDEDc&list=PLYA9eZLlgz7t9Oleid2wtlgnvhGObeKzp

>>51430292
Except much more support for Java in FRC, because ez
>>
>>51430333
Nice trips man,

Anyways, I wont use labview because everyone is against it.

Anyhow, THANK YOU LORD JESUS FOR THAT VIDEO. I never knew there was tutorial for it. Never knew how to do it. Thanks.
>>
>>51430318
Fuck LabVIEW, I was long gone by the time that shit was given out.

>>51430333
There's always been a ton of support for whatever languages they offered. I remember when they first introduced the camera as part of the kit, and some NASA engineer was kind enough to write a nice wrapper library for it because the standard library was way too complicated.
>>
>>51430370
Labview actually isn't that bad. A lot of the logic is very similar to C++ IIRC, it's been 2-3 years since I've used it. Just don't expect too much support. I think a lot of the stigma behind it is "ew it's graphical that means babby's first programming language"

And yeah, took a bit of digging around but I saved it and never got to use it.

Good luck man, even though I've graduated high school I'm still interested in the 2016 game.
>>
>>51430392
its fucking slow as shit,
but thanks for moral support

I too wonder what the 2016 game is.
This years sucked balls, I mean recycle rush? kek, boring ass shit stacking totes, didnt take a genius to come up with that.
>>
>>51430392
Our team was forced to use LabView for sponsorship reasons.

We had to make a simple toggle, press the button and a solenoid turns on, press it and it turns off - a nightmare. Either our entire team and chiefdelphi are collectively retarded, or LabView should stay confined to signal processing where it belongs.

>>51430469
when did you use it? I found it retardedly simple. All the robot controls besides drive relied on toggles, and that was pretty simple imo.
Anyways I would never suggest Labview to any team, never in a million years.

Don't worry - FRC is really simple coding

Literally all you have to do is like myRobot.ArcadeDrive(Joystick, maybe something here); during your teleop period

Boom it's driving, struggle for a while, they'll think you're programming genious

Study java, Take it easy, ask your mentor for help, Sign up for Chief Delphi

Theres usally a programming book with stuff to help you, and your IDE should, when you create a project with the FRC shit installed, you can start with a template project - Probably would say Robot Simple 2016

Good Luck Senpai!

Does anyone know a guide where I could learn about parts on the robot, like solenoids and talons, and ultrasonic sensors, and learn to write code for it? I mean, I can use robot builder for a template, but what about programming a ultrasonic sensor in Java of course.
>>
ur fukt kiddo l0l
>>
>>51431018
>heard it was good, even though they suck
It was pretty aight. First time going to a Nationals. Took a selfie with that guy from mythbusters and partied with Canadians. Barely paid attention to the games apart from when I was driving.
>>
>>51431018
We used svn, kept it on a flash drive instead of git. Might work if you have a fairly small programming team. If you want the bot to be remotely drive able you need a pid controller for your wheels.
>>
>>51431305
>>51431018
Also, you need a fairly good design of your code. Break stuff up. Keep it so that people are working on one file at a time to prevent merge conflicts. If you really feel unconfident about doing this, talk to your mentors. Either they will help you get through it, or re elect someone to lead the team. I felt lost at the start, but while things didn't work perfectly, we made a half decent robot. Also fuck mechanum wheels.
>>
>>51431202
maybe

>>51431468
good point. Hopefully a mentor will catch on to my lack of skills and re elect rather than try and teach. but for now, I will see how it goes.
>>
>>51430245
My team uses C++ because we reuse code from year to year. Otherwise, we would have moved to Java most likely.
>>
Dude I've been in FTC for four years and I can honestly say... Fuck Robotics, Fuck the piece of shit stereotypical nerd teammates, and fucj the boring ass competitions.

Anyway, the competition this year is just climbing that janky wallthing , just make sure they build a robot that can haul it's ass up to the top and you'll at least make state. If they complain about doing the other crap, tell them you need to "focus on programming the driving aspect of the robot first and foremost"
>>
>>51431045
c h i e f d e l p h i (unless you're not talking about FRC)
Solenoids are usally shot off by Relays which i forgot, there may be a relay board and shit, but it's all abstracted for you...

Your ultrasonic sensor, depending on your sensor, see your FRC docs for info and Delphi Delphi Delphi

>>51431018
Git's Pretty usable, i was the sole dev on my team, so YMMV... You'll have to teach Git + working in a SCM world and Git is a bigger paradigm shift than SVN ... and it can be harder to teach, although the one guy i had to teach (different project) was lightweight retarded
>>
I haven't seen that logo since this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13HpbFjZWto

Which was actually a pretty fun competition. But yeah the people sucked, and I didn't do anything for my team. Such stereotypical nerdy ass teammates who took it so seriously.Twins who ended up working for google coded absolutely everything, everyone else basically worked on mechanics. But good times in highschool, during lunch we would get food really quick then rush to the robotics workshop and screw around. it was like a lounge with a couch, a bunch of computers, and a bunch of equipment.
>>
>>51430114
haha. Must feel bad to be a stupid fuck.
>>
>>51431564
Part of this is that you aren't supposed to be perfect. However, if you haven't programmed anything before you are fucked. I led a programming team, and had a fair bit of experience and it still hurt my brain. If you have a large enough team most of the work you will be doing is designing and Making sure all the monkey's parts fit together. You also should do a fair amount of teaching Java in the off time before build season so that people like you actually learn something. If you have prior experience in something like c/c++ picking up Java will be easy. I just kinda rolled with it. If not then, you might want to figure a way out. Also, when I was there the libraries were shitty. They just tried to wrap most of their c++ apis and it blew. We had to fix their shit half the time. But that was a while ago. Either prepare for hell and learn a bunch of shit or pussy out and talk to your mentors about selecting someone else. Make up your mind soon so they can train the other guy.
>>
>>51430245
When I was in high school, my team used C++ then switched to Labview in my senior year. The transition was not pretty.
>>
>>51431731
That's the game the year after I left? I'm so sorry. The one before that wasn't too terrible. Our minibot kicked ass.
>>
>>51431626
Yeah Transitioning is a pain

>>51431643
Its full of fucking pathetic nerds who don't bother to apply deodorant. And honestly, I would be happy if I could program the bot to atleast get us to state.

>>51431728
Yeah I'll probably stick to git and check Chief Delphi more often. How are the forums on there?

>>51431731
That one was dumb but fun

>>51431773
Not stupid, and not taking the b8 m8

>>51431831
I've programmed things before, but if only I could remember. my mind is going to be fucked this year. I am the only veteran on the programming subteam, everyone is a rookie. Not only that, but the person who was suppose to be leading changed his subteam, gave his shit to me, and tells me to start teaching in 2 weeks. And on top of that, I have college. There is no one to reelect besides me. There is no other guy. Literally when my team told me today that I will be the lead programmer, my stomach flipped and I just feel like shit. I do not like programming, it just doesn't appeal to me.

I wish there was a way I out, as I do like robotics.

is that one those boards activists add to phones so they act as sonic devices?

if so, I hope your whole family gets run over by a car and die. If someone in your family had a child out of wedlock to establish rapport among your community and you mistreat that man and that child, I hope only they survive the genocide of your lineage you cunt piece of shit.

>>
>>51430245

What is the game this year? I guess I'll go look up what they are doing.
>>
>>51432168
>is that one those boards activists add to phones so they act as sonic devices?
What? Please explain
>>
>>51433612
Don't take my word for it, or do and learn to not worry about dealing with that kind of cunt, but here in LA there are these boards being passed around for use in iPhones and possible other phones that overclock to a strong pulse/burst that send out a particular signal that can cause panic in people. "Self-Defense Sonic Weapons" that activists used in Greece and in the occupy riots, probably in the black riots too ( sometimes I think they were used in those videos where you see kids getting slammed by cops ) and all you gotta do is point them at someone and turn on the camera and it basically acts as a means to deter the attacker or provoke and have them on tape so they can't retaliate or else you get to look like a victim and then you can say you dindu nuffin and they get lots of money for your family.

But basically the light acts as a conduit for the wave and you can use it to guide the pulse at your "victim/offender" and give their heart a good thumping. My ex is autistic as fuck, as are most mexican women, so she is sloppy as fuck and doesn't figure that that kind of stuff leaves a huge trail and can be recorded.

My ex-girlfriend, my son's mother, used to attend socialist meetings with her best friend and her new lesbian lover and they have each used those on me on many occassions. I don't have hard proof except for a few recordings of them being used on me to wake me up or before my finals to make me fail ( I didn't, whoopee ) or when I didn't want to open the door to my girlfriend's new lesbian lover/girlfriend because she shouldn't be the one to drop a proof of service on me since she is involved.

It's not that strange and sorry about the diction but I'm in the middle of something and can't be bothered with punctuation or grammar atm. Also, since I have a heart condition, nerve problems, hearing problems, eye problems ( all on my left side from people not believing me about the kinds of things those girls do ) I'm very sensitive to this stuff.
>>
>>51433875
This is such bullshit.

The technology exists, yes, but you need huge amounts of power to run one. And even then its not some aggravation thing, its just a high pitch to send people running away.

On top of that you can't really focus some kind of sonic blast like that without something acoustically shaped to do so. Slapping some such device on a phone would affect everyone in the area.

You probably just don't like to be on camera. also probably brain damaged. No, seriously, I mean it's possible that part of some beating has you fucked up.
>>
>>51430114
Why the hell do they have you running java for FIRST shit?? Tell them to fuck off and learn c++/sharp like you're supposed to. If they complain, remind them that they appointed you to be programmer.

That being said, real world programming is a link t line how you passed your class. Google and bullshitting is used in the real world too. Don't feel bad for it.
>>
>>51433960
yeah that's why they're used on cops you cunt

cops are near gunfire a lot, that can cause enough sensitivity that these things will be effective. And if the cops start shooting bean bags and popping flash bangs, the pulse is enough for them to run away with.

Also, they haven't never physically hit me. Instead they used a yawn of mine to get a lot of gas to pump into my ear and then lit a lighter by it. You underestimate how far cunts go. I'm pretty sure you're just playing damage control right now. Sorry I said anything you fat cunt.

Btw, that kind of device would affect anyone in the area or with an ear trained to hear slight changes in bitch, er I mean pitch. Also, I didn't mention that maybe they changed the bulb on the camera to be a bit sharper. I did say iphones didn't I? That could easily be RECHARGED, you fat cunt.
>>
>>51433998
What the fuck

Recharging an iPhone doesn't suddenly make it output millions of volts.

A light bulb!=a fucking speaker come

Cops, like any other reasonable gun user, use fucking ear protection

Half of what you said there was unintelligible and I feel bad for partly sympathizing for you. You're really just a delusional asshole. Have fun with your fucking tinfoil earmuffs.
>>
>>51433960
btw yes it's clear you are a tumblrina or some sort of sjw

It's funny you immediately jumpe to assume a beating may have fucked me up despite the fact that you would be willing and able to surmise that being on camera could cause a panic attack or even go as far as to say I'm brain damaged.

Like, really, do you cunts ever stop and smell the roses? Can you even bend down that far without causing a rupture in space time or opening up too wide and letting everyone catch a whiff of your uncle's cum?
>>
>>51434048
Dude I'm literally trying to agree that you're a victim of relationship abuse but whatever apparently being friendly at all is social justice minded.
>>
>>51434042
Sympathizing? LOL you need more than help, friend. You need privilege and prestige. I have no delusions, I just have scars. Whoopee.

I don't knwo why you'd judge someone harshly for being a victim to the victims. You really gotta work on your parole logic.

Btw, they tried to get me to join them in their shit and even offered to help me with something that I could "protect" myself with. Just stick deleting threads you find offensive and talking about disgusting things as if they were desirable in any way.

Now I'm sorry to you robotics dudes for ruining your thread by talking back to uncle cletus' ex-wife-niece. Please continue.

All he really needs to know is the limits to memory, make a plan for allocation of memory, figure out a good way to send commands as he wants them, code it towards the memory and then debug debug debug.

With good commenting he'd only need notepad++ and gcc. Those are available on any OS I think and he could do most of the work on paper rather quickly if he has any clue on how to use the robot's api. As for teaching the class on coding, he could just find a commented set of examples, delete the comments, and then re-iterate what was written in the comments. Students have to read too. But he better make sure to run out of time so he doesn't run into questions. lol.
>>
>>51434132
this

OP, what happens when the JVM doesn't fit or isn't implemented for your machine?
>>
>>51434093
Dude you keep misinterpreting what I'm saying and then blaming me for your misinterpretation. I was literally trying to say that as a victim of abuse, you tunnelvision and see normal things as part of that abuse. I'm trying to sympathize by saying that while your assumptions about this technology are incorrect, the percieved effects on you are likely mental scars from being literally physically and emotionally attacked by your abuser. But okay whatever just keep... I don't even know what you're doing at this point. Throwing out non-related argumentative jargon? Calling out fallacies that don't exist?? I don't even know man
>>
>>51434132
Also, I think there was a thread where they talking about making a binary tree and then reversing it. That would be for your command branches. You could have two trees, one logical one and one regular dynamic one. You use the logical one to send batch commands and then fit them to the dynamic tree, if they are new, and then move about the dynamic tree in real time. That way you can save time on making the reverse motions if you get stuck or use the extra time you now have in reversing to plan the next movements as a sort of exception case.

I should get a raspberry pi.

Hey womyn, I have a recording of a bunch of kids using the technology to set off car alarms. What the fuck are you talking about? I have a recording of my ex aiming something at my house and waking me up with a sharp jolt just as she arrived. Are you saying I am clairvoyant and knew they were here at that exact moment?

Shifting goals and flouting any and all arguments aimed at you. And now you've taken the stance as a helper when really all you're doing is enabling the problem. You are now a facilitator. Yes. Yes. Yes. Please stop trying to get me to fight a reverse fight with you when you asked me to explain something that you deemed possible, just expensive. It's not like iPhones are free if you manage to break screen. What's a hundred bucks to the child support she gets from me by pretending that I mistreated her and am lazy when in fact I'm injured. Do you now know women in the US? Are you actually female and eating out chicks that are on the pill?

I'm kind of feeling the same way now. It would be pretty cool to find a dump of one of those ab belt boards or something but maybe mapping a controller for my vidya would be pretty good.

Just a hunch, but I figure doing things this way might invite the possibility that I could just buy cheap chinese stuff and then just extend functionality of my rasp pi to attach the peripherals to it, don't you think?

Thanks for your elaborate answer, I appreciate that you took the time to help me.

But that load of bullshit you wrote down makes absolutely no sense at all. Timecube makes more sense than this.

Is America really this fucked up that people have to fabricate imaginary devices that "explain" police violence, riots and all that shit that seems so common in that country? Is the cognitive dissonance really this strong?

Never in my life have I heard of such devices, except when used in the military and usually mounted on trucks. To think it is possible to miniaturize this technology to the point of weaponizing a fucking phone is just madness.

BTW, the picture that was posted earlier is probably just the Nexus' NFC antenna.

https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/can-sound-use-light-as-a-medium-to-pass-through.253190/

your brain doesn't charge the organs, its provides a frequency as a synaptic impulse that the organ then uses to generate a proper response. If you can manage the desired response and then manage to relay the received data in transmission then you could use light as a conduit to transfer the sound information necessary to triggah the desired response.

You think those activist girls are smart individuals? It takes every mexican girl in the school to make the little movements in protest, each girl with a particular specialization of study, and all of it is then brought together to make something that can be used for more protest and contrive up a well enough covered plan that can allow for future protests which keeps the organization going. Mecha in this case. Possibly one of their sister organizations that they can just cut off if it gets caught. Immigration reform. Trump not avowing public relations problems. Hello? You don't need the tunnel vision 24/7.
>>
>>51434441
aren't raspbery pis like 10-30 bucks? You could literally just treat it like a SHOTGUN and use them as two "bullets" per use. Not a hefty price to pay for these people if all they do is get drunk and complain about other people while they live off of child support and welfare, maybe selling drugs too. I mean...aren't you cyberpunk at all? This shit is real, son! I mean daughter.

Add aenough stressors to the situation and you thin out the response time and considerations for the heart. Manage to record the response even once and you can use that info to triggah the response again. If there is enough stress on the victim, triggaering the response could cause a moment of panic to set in.

Because they aren't enough proof and the kids shooting a car doesn't mean that she involved in some huge conspiracy.

You really think those protest organizations don't stage a lot of their protests and rally up victims, see martyrs, to their cause? I don't really buy into conspiracies, I don't really care if jet meals can fuel ally mcbeal, I don't really care to save the world from these women. But if I can share a bit of knowledge that these guys can use to make the other robots malfunction or if they can learn to just avoid icky yucky disgusting mexican women then my pain will not have been for naught. This is the problem: you're talking about bullshit that is wrong just to sound smart. But you're not realizing you're the only one who thinks you sound smart.

Also, I'm not smart enough to be a conspiracy nut. I'm actually just working on a sci fi game. It started it as a book, kind of like something by Phillip K Dick, turned into something more like a comic book and then slowly but surely I decided it would be best suited as a video game. These discussions aren't helping me any, but it's nice to know the viability of some of the ideas just stems on the regulated ceiling and floor recommendations to the technology. Maybe I can make it a bit realistic after all. *Shrug*

>make it realistic
How could you, if you can't even understand that an NFC coil is just an NFC coil?
Are you 12?
>>
>>51434701
You're silly. I don't want to sound smart. I already admitted I'm not any smarter than your average person. I'm putting it together this way to test some ideas for a book. You're getting all bent out of shape about it like a struck a nerve or something. Chill out and stop sharing your pills. I don't want 'em. Thank you.

and NFC Coil is an antenna and thus a transmitter. Just because we've regulated transmissions to between a few particular values doesn't mean they don't transmit below and beyond that...I'd think you were a sort of Computer Engineer with how sure you are of yourself but you don't supply counter arguments and instead just shuffle about inflammatory remarks about some supposed condition I may have that fluctuates between immature, uneducated, insane and misinformed. You sound like a girl.

Answer me this, do #BlackLivesMatter or do #AllLivesMatter?

It could be a WPT coil, what the fuck do I know. I'm sure the technology isn't too drastically different especially considering wireless chargina of phones is coming to fruition. I mean, there's gotta be a reason that the tesla coils were relegated to the future. Surely the risk of revolt being one of them?

You have literally very little to worry about/

The code for FIRST is pretty simple for the most part and you're going to be able to recycle 99% of last years code. Expect to right one maybe two functions for whatever thing you're doing this year that doesn't involve moving the robot and you'll be fine.

those were fun days

HAHA

tfw i knew a guy in my college classes who refused to learn any of the programming because he was going to "sell his game ideas to bungie for millions"

his fucking name was blake
i'm dying over here at the stupidest shit

Wdym? We have an arm board then we create a connection too and transfer the code. Thats all I know.

Isn't codeacademy shit?

This is what I'm hoping.

Why is "robotics" the biggest fucking tech meme? This level of shit literally serves no purpose to any kind of AI/robotics research that actually happens and it's not even anything like real robotics/AI. The best part is that it's acceptable for people who literally know nothing about programming to compete in these things either with other people's code or some shitty code generated by some shit like Scratch. Being able to click legos together isn't impressive and shouldn't be enough to compete in any competition. If they want to hold real competitions it should be about making actual good AI for the robot, but then all the normies wouldn't do it anymore.

There is an autonomous mode where the robot has to perform simple tasks by itself.
