I just didn't see an advantage besides easy concurrency, and great build tool. But a few libraries and a couple tutorials could get me there with other other languages that DO garner more benefits.

Problems with Go:
Shitty package manager/tooling
Overly verbose error handling because "simplicity"
interface{}
Fails to take into account many useful features present in functional languages

Frankly, Go is just a meh language. It has a much more sane concurrency model than many languages, and its duck typed interfaces are really neat. But overall I don't see it as worth using over say D or Erlang depending on what I want to do.

Package managers serve a slightly different role in languages than operating systems, at least when done properly.

Done right: Ruby, Elixir, Rust

Done wrong: Go, Python

Notice how in Python you frequently have to do some shit like pip freeze and virtualenvs to keep your global libraries clean. Go is also bad, but not quite as bad with $GOPATH(a big pain).

In the proper languages, there are files which explicitly state what libraries are needed by a project and enable you to specify dependencies easily without polluting your global libraries.

Basically, think of a good package manager as acting like a chroot, creating isolated environments with the minimal necessary dependencies for each project.

The fixed dependency shit (either with the programming language's package manager or with programmers shipping Docker images) will blow up in everyones face when people realize that lazy programmers let their dependencies rot and half of the software is suddenly built with outdated software itself.
