Holy shit, the awk "language" makes zero fucking sense.

Awk is both simple and awesome what the fuck are you talking about. It takes less than an hour of reading the fucking manual to understand how it works.

Compare that to a week learning a shitperative language to write 50 lines of code to process lines of text.

Yeah. For simple stuff, use SED. If you need anything that's advanced, use Python or something. If that isn't installed on the servers, tell the sysadmin the current year and tell them to stop sleeping on the job.

Good point I was talking rubbish.
I like awk thou, it's sometimes really handy in my line of work if you have to for example do stuff like filter out lines of sar that hold the value larger then which would be really ugly with grep.
