I can't get over how fucking amazing this IDE has become in recent years.

Does /g/ use Visual Studio? What do you use it for?

Post your color schemes ITT.

Nice.

That is my ideal goal, after I finish working out this 200episode VB tutorial... I'm gonna start C# in here.
>>
>>51416153

don't waste your time on vb just get straight into c# its not even hard

I agree with you 100%... sadly I have to take it for a class next semester before I can get into the good stuff so I'm learning it now while I can.

Also it really sucks because I was 1/4 of the way through Bucky's tutorial on Java. I was really learning how to code in it but I have to drop it completely because apparently my school requires all programmers to start off with VB.

yeah, "fucking amazing"
>>
>>51416324
yikes that sounds like a hardware issue... I'm running an ivy bridge processor and I am no where near 50% CPU usage.
>>
>>51416347
Oh yeah sec let me just buy an i7 to use a glorified text editor

Visual studio is pretty good, but I think I actually prefer Mondevelop for working in C#. Can't think of any particular reason though.
>>
>>51416500
What is it that you're making in there?
>>
>>51416548
A program that reads in a postscript file and draws the output to an XPM. It's for a computer graphics class, and we're not allowed to use any libraries for math or anything, so we have to make our own classes for everything.

I'd post an example of the output, but I'm actually in the middle of working on it so that it can do 3D, and right now it gets stuck in an infinite loop trying to clip lines to the viewport.
>>
>>51416591
That sounds really interesting but I honestly have no idea what that is. I am still a beginner, my first project for VB class will be to develop a single program with over 1000 lines of code - how difficult would that be? I don't know what kind of program I'm gonna make yet.
>>
>>51416620
Line count has no relation to code complexity - you could copy and paste a thousand lines of hello world: Thus, I can't tell you how difficult it would be.
>>
>>51416648
I see what you mean.

Does anyone have suggestions as to what a great project for a beginner would be? Maybe some kind of game?
>>
>>51416061
i use it for mssql. it's pretty nice but mysql workbench is objectively better.
>>
>>51416324
I've never used anything but programs and features to uninstall things.
>>
>>51416313
Dear god why? It's like teaching a kid to ride a bike by making him try to ride the family dog first.
>>
>>51416324
I've got an extremely shit laptop and it works fine except for the startup time. I use it for Python, C#, and C++. Never had this issue.

I prefer the blue theme, easiest on my eyes.

Pic related, little side project to bring dumbed down crypto to the masses. Universal app (windows, windows phone) and API will be open source.

The last good Visual Studio was 6.0. Once the .NET meme took over, VS became bloated, slow and inefficient. Same as Windows.

This. Only plebs use C# and Windows. Real server, mainframe or embedded environments (telecommunications, satellites, flight control systems, uavs) which matter use neither. All other environments are for dropout CS/Engineering fags who couldn't understand shit from their lectures.
