At last, the time has come.
I'm trying to make a circuit that'll combine horizontal and vertical sync signals from a 15khz RGBHV source, that will light up an LED to tell me if the VGA port is VESA compliant (ie. supplies 5 volts on pin 9); and if not, to plug in a phone charger to power the IC.
Anyone know if this will work? Apologies for the shit diagram but I've never even soldered before.
why didn't you ask /diy/. thats their specialty. anyways why not just use a relay to switch in the power from the usb port when pin 9 is inactive. then no need to manually plug the usb thing in everytime.
Thanks. I've never actually been on DIY. I thought they were mainly into home-improvement kind of things I'd not even considered it. I'll try asking them later then.

I figured the switch would help me to confirm the port was outputting 5v but that would save me even checking.
I got one of those kits as a kid, nice way to learn about electronics. anyone else played with them as a kid?
I can bias it correctly, build common collector amplifiers, common emitter amplifiers, common base amplifiers, Class A, B, AB, and C amplifiers, Darlington pairs, current mirrors, differential pairs etc.
Anyone on /g/ should be able to do this.
