If you seriously want to have a nice machine for graphic design and using photoshop you need a machine with a powerful processor and lots of RAM. 8GB is the minimum, 16GB would be better if you could afford it or upgrade.

I use a T420 with a quad core Sandy bridge i7 and 8 gigs of ram. It runs Photoshop/illustrator very well.
But if you're actually pursuing a career in graphic design, you should get a quad core Macbook Pro. Just deal with that fact
