Fair enough, that would suck. Perhaps we should say fuck that, and let people determine this over time. I think that works fine, personally, but we did have some bitching yesterday about it.

> it will never come out in 2016
We'll see. I think you are likely to be right though, a good modular phone would be too good.
>>
>>51408137
That was rigged.

He had preheated the phone so it would be bent more easily.

http://youtu.be/SHBPjCa2_xI
>>
>>51408213
actually that one was rigged because the wood block he uses to spread out the weight pins the screen down and makes it so it doesn't bend the way it would in the other video.

There are multiple videos out there, you can even watch one where he opens the box fresh on camera and snaps it in half without any heating or funny stuff going on.

You still have to apply pressure at the correct spot, but it's certainly doable.
>>
>>51408213
You clearly didn't watch that video anon posted, that was the 2nd round that was just a plain bend test.

Heat shouldn't make it structurally weak.
>>
>>51408247
>Heat shouldn't make it structurally weak
Heat is for the adhesive on the screen.

You heat it up to more easily remove the glass when replacing it. It IS much easier to bend a phone with the screen heated like that because the screen normally would provide a good amount of rigidity, but when it's heated it simply comes off and allows the metal frame of the device to more easily be deformed.
>>
>>51408270
yet many other phones he tested did just fine

the second test didn't include heating
>>
>>51408303
I am not defending the 6P, I am this post here (>>51408243)

All I am saying is that heating the screen WILL make it bend easier, that is just a fact so your statement of
>Heat shouldn't make it structurally weak.
Is just wrong, because it will and it does.

The 6P still is built retardedly and bends far easier than it should. I wont argue with that because its true.
>>
>>51408327
I used to repair phones and Apple laptops that use adhesive for work, from 2009-2013

Applying a little bit of flame to the middle of the screen isn't going to weaken the adhesive. That's not long enough to do anything.

Also, if you bothered to watch the video he posted, that's the second round that shows it bent just as fast with no heat applied.
>>
>>51408213
I think the real problem is that tiny piece of aluminium in correspondance of the power button, there's the battery on one side and the motherboard on the other so i think that's what makes it so bendy, i dunno about the glass
>>
>>51408348
Are you not reading what I am typing...? I know that I even talked about the second video in my reply earlier (>>51408243)
>multiple videos out there, you can even watch one where he opens the box fresh on camera and snaps it in half without any heating or funny stuff going on.

Im in market for a new phone.

Had an iphone when 3GS was new. Androidfag since then. Thinking about going windowsphone. Not using many apps, not gaymen. All I want is normie social networks, spotify, onedrive, slack for work.

Should I wait for Lumia 950? Or continue androidfagging with LG G4?
>>
>>51408375
Windowsphone is bad idea, they kept shooting themselves in the foot and less than 2% of smartphone users use the platform.
>>
Note 4 or Nexus 6 (2014)?

What I gather

Note 4 pros:
Marginally better camera
Wacom stylus
SD slot
Slightly smaller, same resolution as n6
Gorilla Glass 4 (N6 has 3)

N6 pros:
Stock Android
Marginally nicer design
The smug satisfaction of using a Nexus product

Which would you choose? I have owned both the Note 3 and Nexus 5 before and loved both.
>>
>>51408410
Note4

Stock android is honestly just a pain in the ass.
Sure it's stock, sure its fine to use, but I have to customize literally everything to get it how I want, and it's a fucking pain in the ass to update.

I honestly just enjoy a good NON-stock ROM these days FAR more than stock android.

>>>/fa/
>>
>>51408439

You're a fucking weirdo bruh

I had to mod the shit out of that Note 3 to get it where I wanted it. Touchwiz is painfully hideous

What do you need to change about stock Android that you *don't* on other devices?
>>
>>51408442
I like the portable windows desktop environment the new ones have, but it's not enough to make me jump ship.
>>
>>51408455
I'm not going to flash a custom rom on either phone. If I get the Nexus 6 I won't even root it.
>>
>>51408455
>means that you don't even need to flash a custom ROM?
what do you mean NEED to flash a custom ROM?

There isn't a single phone out there where you NEED to flash a custom ROM.

You CAN flash a custom ROM if you want. but no one will force you to.

>>51408467
>You're a fucking weirdo bruh
eh, its really only the tech nerds who enjoy stock android, ask any normal android user to use touchwizz or LG UI for 20 minutes then hand them stock android and ask which they prefer, pretty much everyone will prefer touchwizz or LG. They simply are more featured out of the box and are easier to navigate. Aesthetics are negligible since it's easy to change regardless of ROM.
>>
>>51408062
did you pull that information out of your shit-smeared ass? There are 50 iPhone users to every lagdroid neckbeard autistic wizard.

Iphone sells expensive devices to those who can afford them.

Android sells everything from $10 currynigger phones to $1000 flagships.

It's much easier to sell more when you are selling phones for hundreds less than the competition.

The 4s was actually pretty damn good for 12-18 months. It was only after the later iOS updates that it started slowing down on me and giving me problems.

I actually dont have too many problems with iOS itself anymore, it used to be locked down far worse.

However, android is far more open and lets me do everything an iphone would, and then some. All while generally costing less, and allowing far more aesthetic customization.

I would recommend the S6 or Note5 over the S6 edge/S6 edge+

The edge on the screen really doesn't add any functionality besides notifications and stuff, which after the gimmick period wares off, just isn't really anything exciting. The edge also just gets in the way when you hold it and overall makes it more awkward in the hand in my opinion. Overall just not worth it especially when it costs more than the S6.

I'm using Firefox for Android, and an annoying thing happens when I try to download large files using the download manager.
When the screen turns off automatically every two minutes, the download stops.

This means I have to keep the phone active as I'm downloading shit from Firefox.
Some of the files take an hour or more to download.

Does anybody know how to correct Firefox so as to not quit the download when the phone display turns off automatically?

Look at display mates testing on the Note5 AMOLED, or Anandtechs. It is toe to toe and better than every IPS panel currently out. It is THE best display for a phone right now.

And AMOLED tech is advancing at a far faster rate than IPS or any LCD tech. By next year AMOLED will be superior in pretty much everything over IPS. The only thing stopping main stream adoption is samsung is the only one making them and they aren't really sharing.

Good question OP

Will they ever catch on? I think they're pretty cool personally but it seems to be the polar opposite of what major manufacturers are doing these days which is removing customizability in hardware.
>>
>>51411713
It isn't really better. OPX has 3GB ram compared to the 2GB of the Nexus 5, has a microSD slot (which can be used for dual sim) and a slightly better camera and battery (2525 vs 2300mAh). If it was me i wouldn't buy it in your situation
>>
>>51411728
I really like the X aesthetically but the One has 64GB storage, AC WiFi (which i don't use anyway), and a 3100mAh battery vs the 2525mAh of the X. Although i prefer its size, is it really worth to save those €30 and get the X?

>>51412027
>and why is that?
the fact you've seriously had to ask why having good customer service is a huge positive does make me suspect you're retarded

it doesn't matter if you've never personally had a problem with an electronic device, plenty of people do, and when they need to get it replaced or repaired having shitty customer service makes it an absolute ballache

Yeah but when the note4 gets it, it wont just be in Poland like the G3 6.0 release. Which btw, poland is always where LG releases their shit first, they have done it 2-3 times now and all the LG fanboys jerk off on each other about how LG was the first (besides nexuses) to get such and such release. When really its a buggy as fuck alpha build they are pushing out to polish users to act as testers for the real android build they will release to the US 2-3 months afterwards.

So sure, the G3 will be getting 6.0 in Dec. But dont expect a fully functional build for anywhere else besides poland for at least a month or more after that.

Did anyone get any burn in on their OLED display phone?

The more I read about it, the more it seems that it's unavoidable, since the organic chemical component which supports the color diodes will degrade in time no matter what. Sure, you can do stuff to mitigate/delay that degradation, but it's just a factor you always have to keep in mind.

And it seems too limiting to buy some Samsung flagship with "omg such an amazing display" but have to make sure you remove anything that could create a burn in on it in time (like set a dark background, make sure you don't have the display run for hours the same application, etc).

The whole thing stinks of planned obso-fucking-lescence.

Man, it really seems like there's no actual great phone on the market that is also durable. I mean, ffs, I still have a working 10-year old Treo with an LCD display. How the fuck can technolo/g/y go backwards with (faster) self-degrading OLED displays?
>>
>>51413594
>planned obso-fucking-lescence
Really? They spend Billions of dollars on R&D to create a new screen tech to rival IPS LCD and you think they intentionally gimping it with the burn in?

Jesus christ, take the tinfoil hat off.
>>
>>51413594
You could be smart, buy a used flagship for half the price, use it for a year or two, then sell it for 1/4 the price, and always have the best flagships while barely spending proportionally. It's what I've done and usually costs me less than $70/year - which is an acceptable cost. Ideally OLEDs wouldn't degrade, but their god tier display blacks/brightness/contrast/angles makes it impossible to use normal LED displays after you've experienced it.
>>51413577
>>51413505
It doesn't touch your saved files, only the system apps. It'll be the same as doing a factory reset.
>>
So I'm getting a note 5 from Verizon. I just learned today how fucking awful knox is for the note 5's on verizon/att. Will there ever be a root for this phone on Verizon?
>>
>>51413622
The OLED displays have some chemical organic components which naturally degrade depending on how you use the phone. That's a known fact. Of course, that doesn't mean the phone will become an unusable piece of shit in a few months, though it is possible that if you use it for hours every day playing the same game or using the phone as a car GPS navigation system the display will get burn ins. It was reported by quite a few people, just look it up, it's one google away.

I'm in a real bind here, basically I don't find any phone that has decent specs and is flawless in terms of design or durability. Every one of them has major trade-offs. And the OLED ones have the burn in trade off.
>>
>>51413672
I know there is burn in. Are you actually reading my post...? I said they aren't intentionally gimping AMOLED screens with burn in.

Yes it happens, but that is a natural byproduct of the technology, NOT samsung trying to fuck you over with planned obsolescence like you were implying it could be.
>>
>>51413669
>Will there ever be a root for this phone on Verizon?
unlikely no, it is 9 months after the Galaxy S6 came out and it still doesnt have a permanent Root for the verizon model that doesnt also trip Knox.
>>
>>51413724
There is one but only if the phone isn't on 5.1
>>
>>51413731
Yeah but they ship them with 5.1.1 on them.
>>
>>51413713
No, I was implying they are building obsolescence into the product by using AMOLED.
Not that they are obviously tampering with the technology even more than natural degradation will do.

That's still a concern to me, since their phones can cost a premium.

So, fuck it, there is no good phone on the market.

The iPhone is a "rose-gold" aluminium toy
HTC has unusable cameras and it gets hot
Samsung has OLED flagships which may or not may get burn ins (they're also very slippery and lost a lot of features: mSD, replaceable battery, etc)
Most of the other phones are chinkshit or plastic.

A very disappointing year to look for a phone.

>got a zenfone 2 1gb/16gb/1.8ghz/1080p instead of the mi4i around 5 months ago
>only reason I did was because of the sd card slot
>still on 5.0
>barely lasts 2 days max with moderate use
I sure was meme'd. If they actually get past the battery shit I'd enjoy this a lot more.

I need help deciding between the nexus 6p and the iPhone 6s
>>
>>51414763
Buy 6s, sell it, buy N6, pocket the change.
>>
fuck it I bought a 6p

Lg v10 was too expensive, and I can't wait around for z5 because I want a new phone now, I don't want an s6 when s7 is coming in a few months, priv is out of my spending range for sure

It was the cheapest option and most bang for buck imo. I'm getting a case so I'll be alright

>custom roms
you mean that Big Hero 6 shit?
>>
Can the Z5 Premium be used with one hand comfortably?
>>
>>51415666
Sure

If you have Kawhi Leonard hands.

>Mediocre camera

>Nexus 5x
>Overpriced meme, few upgrades for its price
>In some cases inferior to the Nexus 5
>The shape sucks, it's just a rectangle with rounded borders, the Nexus 5 is more elegant

>Nexus 6p
>Badly built
>Bends and the glass spontaneously cracks

Well i'm not getting a Nexus phone, any advice for better phones?
>>
Have a question: Is it worth getting moto g 3rd gen 1gb version XT1541 (only this available) due to it being aprooved by /g/ (altho only 2gb iirc). Or should I look for other budget phones? Mainly need it for reading text files and taking pics.

Is this the new private tracker general?

PTP open soon?

Is this a good buy in 2015?

I know the Nexus 5 battery is shit, but is it not salvageable with Marshmallow and ElementalX/Franco?
>>
>bought an iPhone 6s

how fucked am i lads?

What a manlet response
>>
>>51417968
Battery and camera are shit. Newer phones with substantially better specs for the same price exist. See: Zenfone 2
>>
>>51408637
Those are only faster on paper.

Despite what people will say, this phone isn't bad. Not quite worth the price imo, but you won't regret it, as long as the iOS fits your needs. Hardware-wise, it's top tier.
>>
which one plus to buy? have a €300 budget
>>
>>51417654
>Mainly need it for reading text files and taking pics.

If that's so, then I guess the 1gb ver. will do the job.
>>
>>51418761
why the hell do people keep bashing this? I didn't have this problem. ran great for a year and a half until the main mobo connector gave out, which is a fucking stupid problem to have
>>
>>51420543
I had a Nexus 5 from launch to mid 2014. The camera took.good pictures if you could hold still for five seconds after pressing the capture button. I hear this may be different now thanks to M.

That battery life is absolutely laughable though, god damn. My Zenfone 2 easily lasts twice and sometimes three times as long.
