>Monitor thread

I have a 1080p 144Hz (but TN) display I use for gaymen, but my secondary 1080p 21.5" IPS is weeks away from dying.

What are some good options, because I definitely don't want to go back to a single monitor. Budget is $500 absolute max

>>

Aren't you paying considerably more per pixel with those?
>>
>>51397539
What do you expect from your monitor? Why are you asking this board something that you yourself should know?
>>
>>51397539
People with Macs who leave their dock fuckhuge and unhidden fucking trigger me so hard.

Either shrink that shit to give you more workspace or auto-hide it. Don't give the windows shills more ammunition.

I would just live with having one monitor for a year or two and then get a 4k monitor when the price and performance of them is more reasonable.

Set these up the other day, two 1080p TVs.

One on the right has a built in DVD player, nabbed it while dumpster diving, works like a dream.

Korean IPS is only way to go OP.

Also that mousr and keyblard triggered me
>>
>>51398065
What games are you playing? TV's normally have 10-20ms input lag.
>>
>>51398399
For a fair value? Probably the BenQ XL2411Z. If you want to take the next jump in quality you have to go to 1440p (which comes with a tremendous price increase) because they stopped upgrading 1080p around the time of the XL2411Z's release.

ASUS and Acer both haver their own competitors to it called the VG248QE and GN246HL. From my research I learned that the ASUS monitor has worse color accuracy (more washed out) but I never did any research on Acer's competitor. AOC also has stuff in the price range but I have no clue, as typically AOC doesn't strike me as a quality brand for this kind of stuff.

Mainly single player games, where the input lag isn't important. I don't into hardcore rts games.

How good/terrible is the SE24FA01-R? It's on sale at tigerdirect for $75 after rebate,$115 before. I'm kinda eager to finally take my Gateway2000 Vivitron out behind the shed.
>>
>>51398790
Sounds good if you want productivity but bad for games. I'd still get a 2nd monitor even if I had a 21:9 strictly so I can game at fullscreen and utilize SLI while still having a 2nd display for things like threads, streams, movies, etc.
>>
>>51399096
You know it'd probably help tremendously if you bothered to post a fucking link so people can see it.

No. Not worth it at all. Piece of shit isn't even IPS. You can tell because they try hard to hide it. They don't mention the panel type anywhere and even if you google it you get no conclusive results.

This one right here is the best bang for your buck
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009483

With the promo code on the page, it's an additional $13 off if you buy it by tomorrow, so $119, and probably way better than that shitty chink monitor from tiger direct
>>
>>51399542
Thanks, I've heard good things about acer but was being kinda stingy. And since it's from newegg, free shipping should be pretty fast. Time to bite the bullet.
>>
>>51399593
Naturally, it ran out of stock the instant I added it to my cart, and is now being sold by a third party without the promo. Fuck everything.

I used to have a 2560x1440 + 1080p but I couldn't find any real use for the second outside of browsing 4chan on the side of slower games. Went to just a Asia mg279q and couldn't want anything else again until we have like 240hz monitors.

>>
>>51399434
>bad for games
Not him but how? Most games have some kind of FoV hack and even if they don't you can just use a normal 16:9 resolution and deal with part of the screen being black.
>>
>>51400435
Because if you start playing games on it, you lose the ability to have something completely different going on in a completely different monitor. You go from having 200% 1080p monitor space, 100% of which was used by a game and the other 100% by other tasks (movies, streams, chats, etc?) to 133% monitor space, and assuming you want to play in windowed mode, and you want to shove the game to the left/right edge of the screen instead of centered, you then have 33% of a 1080p display in the side which is not ideal for much.

The question was about the transition from two monitors to one 21:9, not just about whether the 21:9 is good.
>>
>>51397585
gotta pay the meme tax somehow
>>
>>51400517
>you lose the ability to have something completely different going on in a completely different monitor.

When I still used dual monitors I always shut the other one off because it was either blacked out thanks to the game or just annoying me. Not why I'd want to have other stuff going on while I'm trying to focus on my game.
If I had a 21:9 monitor you'd better believe I'd play every game I could in that aspect ratio.
>>
Is 24" to small for 4k? Looking for a new work monitor, not liking the 27" one I have now.

My mistake, it's a 28" 4k monitor, it just has really awful colors and viewing angles.
Also my GTX 670 can only run it at 30Hz, which is not really a problem. That might be because it needs more memory or it just doesn't support 60Hz.
>>
>>51400781
>it just has really awful colors and viewing angles.
>Also my GTX 670 can only run it at 30Hz
Why are you even asking when the answer is obviously no?

>which is not really a problem.
Yes it is. At those frame rates your UI becomes less responsive because the length of time a single frame is shown greatly increases.

>That might be because it needs more memory or it just doesn't support 60Hz.
It'd either your GPU or monitor doesn't support high bandwidth connections such as DP1.2, maybe both.
>>
I thought lcd monitors lasted a long time
>>
>>51400848
I don't game or watch movies on it, just view still images and sometimes sculpt/work in 3D when I am not using my tablet monitor.

The monitor does have dp1.2 which I am using. Will probably wait till sometime next year to upgrade GPUs.

Currently thinking of replacing it with this 24" viewsonic http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SHZSZZW which has a much better panel. I'm just worried the clarity of 4k will be lost unless I am pressing my face to the screen. It will be kept in portrait mode.

Recently bought Dell U2525h in a very good price, brand new.

Shit is so cash but I can't game properly on it since I have a shitty 960 (didn't plan to go higher than 1080).
>>
Second that, I just bought a second one. They are fucking cash as fuck
>>
I want to buy a monitor mainly for FPS games like CS:GO. I'm obviously gonna buy one with 120hz or 144hz. But I'm not sure if I should stick with 1080p or upgrade to 1440p. Is the difference worth the huge price jump?
>>
>>51401910
Garbage. 27" for a 1080p is awful. An alternate is the ASUS VS239H-P, but do more research before finalizing.
>>
>>51404175
Do you have money to spare? If so just get the really good one. It's not worth the improvement per dollar, but you got money so why the fuck not.
>>
>>51404446
Guess I'll have to stick with 24'' then. The ASUS you mentioned does not even support 120hz.

How does this one look? Pretty cheap, with the 23" version being cheaper for some reason. Says it's IPS, for what it's worth.

>"Don't be surprised if someday there's a class action suit."

Yea right, because there totally was a class action suit too for "2TB" HDDs actually being only 1.82TiB in size.
>>
>>51400979
As the ratio of the sides increases, the ratio of the area over the diagonal decreases. It's pretty obvious. The largest area with for a given ratio is a square, anything else is smaller overall. The more elongated the rectangle with a given diagonal size, the smaller its area.

i fucking hate how all monitors how are dropping DVI.

yeah i know that once you go beyond like 1440 dvi can't handle it, but for fucks sake im seeing brand new 1080 screens that are vga and hdmi only. my fucking gtx470 only has 2 dvi's and 1 hdmi, and i am fucked because if i want to move up to something like a 4k or a big ass ultrawide my fucking x220 or macbook can push that resolution, but not my 250 watt pulling video card
>>
>>51398790
wondering this too

Over the years, I noticed I use multiple monitors at work, but only one at home

I'm going to keep doing it

so

My vx2268wm was slowly dying and I've done some terrible shit to it.

120hz but the resolution was terrible, 1680x1050.

So I bought myself one of those 21:9 monitors and you know, sure, it was a bit difficult to go back to 60hz, but I don't mind it that much. I completely ditched the other monitor, this feels nice. I got too used to this aspect ratio, now fucking 16:10 looks 4:3 to me.
>>
Waiting for a good alternative to the Acer X34 with all its functionality but none of the bullshit (mostly buttons). Here's hoping CES 2016 delivers.
>>
4k 144hz when?
I don't even play games anymore but it's so hard to go back 60hz now.
>>
Looking for a monitor with the following requirements:

>16:10
>Higher than 1080p/1200p
>Fairly big, at least 27"

Is my best bet just a 4k TV? The only thing that really suits my needs that I can find is a 30" ultrasharp.

I went from 3 monitor 4960x1600 to pic related, have been very happy. (note: not a professional gfx artist or 120+ Hz gamer)
Will upgrade if/when UHD TVs ever get 120 Hz over DP 1.3 or if 8k comes out before the first world finishes burning to the ground.

there's literally no difference in panels between TVs and monitors.

as long as you find a model that allows reasonably low brightness levels and no/disablable PWM, viewing is perfectly comfortable.

I'm having a really hard time finding a monitor or TV.

I currently have a 24'' 1080p LED TV from Westinghouse which I plug consoles into via HDMI and a GTX970 into via D-sub. When I use HDMI with the 970 text just doesn't look right.

I really want a display above 34'' that I can use for everything, but I also want response times below 8ms. And obviously I want the picture to not look like shit. I also wanted a 120hz display but it seems like that's less practical than I thought as everything uses some kind of pseudo-120hz.

I was thinking about maybe getting a mid-range 27'' monitor and a 40'' TV on black friday. I don't really give a shit about resolutions above 1080 nor do I want to deal with awkward ratios like 21:9

Any recommendations? I know best buy is selling a 49'' toshiba for $150 on black friday. Anyone know anything about it?
