So I actually read up on this issue
1. This is a very outdated libc version that hasnt been used in OSX for years
2. That particular solution wasn't written by Apple, its from the FreeBSD libc, that spawns bash to avoid licensing issues with the GPL instead of merging the parsing code and having to drop the permissive license. Apparently FreeBSD actually still spawns a shell in its newest libc implementation https://github.com/freebsd/freebsd/blob/master/lib/libc/gen/wordexp.c#L123

Its just an ugly solution for an ugly problem, but everyone seems to do it like that.

i am a apple fan and let me tell you, being an apple user is actually a great thing. we have beautiful products and we have ugly products. just like any company. tim cook for 1 is a great person, makes great products, and takes care of every one that is in his customer base and is glad to do it, and for that he has people that love him around him. also, apple products are one of the best profucts you can have. sometimes they can be really restricted, but they will take care of you no matter what, and the genius bar will help you buy what ever it is that you need. as long as your not a selfish ****head. An actually insightful post. Apple definitely wants to control the experience as much as possible, so they restrict any features to only work exactly as they want. And after I did a lot of research this spring searching for a new laptop, I agree about MacBooks. They're slightly more expensive, but after all the shit HP makes me deal with, I recommend the MBA as the best ultrabook.

Keking at all those tinfoiled pseudocapitalists here. For osx to support every piece of consumer hardware there is (that's what windows does, and there is a fuckload of said hardware) it would take unimaginable amount of work both from apple and each and every hardware dev there is (hundreds, if not thousands), then there is marketing stuff, like getting it preinstalled on thousands of different PCs in stores around the world. Even if Cook wakes up tomorrow morning and says that this shit is their number 1 priority now it will take years at the very best with tons of luck given the right circumstances and some real big money.

There is no money in selling an OS. Microsoft won't be doing it for much longer outside of enterprise. Apple does not require more OSX marketshare either as it's already have substantially higher quality 3rd party debs and software available for it

they want a tightly controlled user experience. they realize that the reason that people shit on windows is that shitty OEMs put windows on their shitty machines and as a result, people blame their computer problems on windows (even though it's the OEM's fault). if Apple gets to decide what machines OSX gets to run on (their machines only, for which the OS is tuned to work with) they prevent normies from ever getting the idea that "mac is shit and gets viruses XDDDDDDDDDDDD", thereby protecting their brand.

Their trackpads are so good that most mice really arent that much better.

The force touch trackpad is the best trackpad I've ever used. The only thing that comes close is the previous Mac trackpad (like in the Air & 2014 pro) and the Dell XPS 13 trackpad, which is very similar to the previous mac ones.

Also, whoever makes the trackpad drivers for the dell is really not good at it because the gesture support sucks.

Best mouse that takes advantage of the gestures that makes using mac laptops so great is the Logitech MX Master
