Is it an Optimus device? If so, does it have a MUX?
If it doesn't have a MUX, do *NOT* buy.

What brand is it? How good is its construction quality?

Is it known for heating up too much?

I see. Well, just call them and ask if you can disable the integrated graphics/if the laptop's display can be directly connected to the Nvidia card.

If you can't, then I really would recommend against buying it, Nvidia Optimus is a poop technology, and it never works right.

Also, since you're interested in Linux, if you decide to buy a laptop without a MUX and ignore my advice, just know there's no Optimus support for Linux (It hardly even works right on Winblows) and the only way you can get it to work is by Xorg hackery, which eats a nice chunk out of performance (20~%) and is also messy, and buggy.

Really, OP, get a MUX or just use integrated graphics.

Also, by any chance, are you going to use the dGPU to crack passwords? Since you mention Kali? If so, then I'd really suggest getting a non-gaymer laptop (Gaming laptops are inferior to laptops designed to be, you know, laptops, especially thermally.) and just cracking your passwords on cloud computing, like those from Amazon or Jewgle.

Your experience will be better.

Dont know why people still buy 960m laptops. Literally an 860m(2013) rebrand with and extra 2gb memory to distract from that fact.

There is a very large gap between a 960m and 970m.

A 960m is going to struggle to get 60fps on most new releases at 1080p.

The 965m is what the 960m should have been.
