the stigmatism of being internet explorer

the name "edge"

It'll never work, Microsoft should just come with some ultra lightweight browser so you can install firefox-chrome-opera or something.
>>
>>50794823
Cut my wrist on it. =(
>>
Someone showed me it today and it was... fast.

Why? Like seriously, it was faster than Chrome on this guy's computer. Maybe it just loads on startup by default to make it seem quicker.

Nothing. Edge has officially passed Safari in web standards compliance and it's on course to pass up Firefox very soon.

https://html5test.com/results/desktop.html

Microsoft has come far, and they're not done yet.
>>
>>50795151
>Why?
Deeply integrated into the OS and/or optimized for it?
Chrome runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android…
Edge only runs on Windows 10.
Not to mention Edge is brand spanking new and it's severely lacking in features.
If Chrome had as little features, options and no support for extensions it'd probably be about as fast.
>>
>>50795221
>Nothing. Edge has officially passed Safari in web standards compliance and it's on course to pass up Firefox very soon.
Literally no one gives a flying fuck about this as long as it doesn't have stuff like uMatrix/NoScript and uBlock Origin/ABP. It can be 800% better than Safari and Chrome combined in theory but it's still entirely useless to browse today's web with.
>>
I only dislike it becauase it's lack of addon support.

I really like how it looks by default. Firefox and chrome (WITHOUT EDITING IT) looks like complete utter shit.

They're working on it. Microsoft is working on a way for Chrome extension developers to easily port their extensions to Edge with zero effort.

I think the general concensus is if it had addons, it'd be great.

It really is really fucking fast, and it's snappier and smoother to use.

If it had extension/addon support, I'd use it as my main browser.

Comparing the Xbox one edge vs Internet Explorer on system.

It crashes a lot, I can't go into private mode and change my address bar (pornhub is in my history now), can't delete history, can't change settings.. Basically it's just Internet Explorer with a new logo and they broke everything again.

it's not a free software, you can legitimately wonder about the security of it, with IE being insecure, I don't have a lot of hope on edge.

Yes it is fast, but who is idiot enough to sacrifice features just to claim you're faster ? Hmm sorry.
Who is stupid enough to believe a company claiming "hey look we're faster, we just didn't had support for webm, unable to set a new tab page, you'll not have extension, and security ? who care ?"
>>
>No extensions (Primarily adblock)
>No "Paste and go" option
>Can't change download directory (seriously, what the fuck?)
>No weebum support

Fix these issues and I would actually switch to Edge. Firefox is shit these days and Chromium still has issues with embedded videos/video player (I think the issue is in h.264 videos). Although, the download directory change isn't of issue to me, and wouldn't prevent me from switching to Edge, it's still bullshit.
>>
>>50798617
True, but let me help you. Edge uses the new EdgeHTML engine, which is just a fork of their former Trident engine IE is built on. This makes Edge just an IE 12, albeit with a drastically revamped UI and some extra touch oriented features.

The underlying file storage mechanisms and database structures (ESE databases) hasn't changed at all. This, among other things, also means that the InPrivate mode is still leaking information about the user. http://articles.forensicfocus.com/2015/07/27/project-spartan-forensics/

Please don't ever use a Microsoft browser.

>>50798611
You're wrong, it's just an easy way to make money. Security through obscurity, which is closed source by definition, is objectively more harmful from a security perspective than open source.

What we think doesn't matter, anon. Those with power control the world. Arguing over what's right and wrong is a waste of time. Especially when those with power have already made up their mind.
>>
>>50798946
Argumentum ad populum, that's not a valid argument.

>>50798982
OpenSSL is a walking monstrosity and we should've killed it a long time ago. OpenSSL's failure is not due to it being open source, it's due to bad programming and a (serious) lack of frequent and extensive independent code audits.
>>
>>50799005
How do you propose any revolution has occurred without debate over "right and wrong"? Those with power won't keep it forever. Babylon fell, the Roman empire fell, and so will the current regimes over time.
>>
>>50799046
Well if you really want to catalyze a revolution in the software industry, I suggest you stop wasting time arguing with people like me, and instead focus on convincing people who matter to accept your stance. Or better yet, work on FOSS projects that are superior to their closed source counter parts and make them well known. But of course, you don't actually want to make a difference. Because that would mean you have less time to browse /g/.

What I DON'T like is how it got rushed out to the public to meet a deadline and came out super buggy. It doesn't help that it was built on the WinRT platform which is very new and unflexible and has its own bugs and issues, unlike the traditional Win32.
