I'm getting an Apple watch even though this board hates them. (Just placed the order minutes ago)

People on /g/ generally hate anything Apple though. In recent years, I have noticed that people dislike it less though. If you mention Apple on /a/ or /v/ they will go nuts telling you to kill yourself and it's not as bad here.

I can look at the lecture material on my phone, if I don't want to print it out. Nowadays having a phone with a 5 inch screen or something is standard anyway so there's no argument against this. Then taking notes...well I suppose you can type them, but personally I prefer the paper because it's easier and quicker to use.

deals with High DPI better than Windows or Linux can at the moment
Viable PCI SSDs in laptops
Can run linux CLI programs with ease through brew or macports
For the rest there's xQuartz

Also Thunderbolt can be cool for elitests, (external SSD clusters) but for the rest it's just an expensive dongle to convert to VGA.

Cons:
OS X isn't all that well optimized for performance in certain ways.
Low amount of gayems.
Can't deny they're over priced if all you want is performance

I built a hackintosh for (economical, upgradeable) video editing, primarily because I was raised on OS X, and I seriously can't into Windows. I always wanted a Windows machine cuz all my pre-neckbeard gaymer friends had them, but by the time I hit college I outgrew vidya. Just isn't fun anymore.

I don't like Apple.

I used to. I remember the toxic white polymer on the G4 iMac and the MacBooks—it all had this otherworldly character to it. I've got an old iBook with Tiger on it that I sometimes open just to huff the fumes and listen to the fans.

The shitty game ports that would crash on a dime gave OS X personality. I liked how my friends would come over, and wouldn't know how to the computers. Being a Mac cultist made you feel like an underdog. It felt good watching Vista torture my friends.

i have a late 2013 27in imac, custom built comp with windows 8.1, a file server running linux, and a thinkpad running linux.

i use my mac for pretty much everything. its my general go to computer for my day to day stuff and even light gaming. i mean really light, like sc2 or hearthstone.

i use my custom built for gaming, i7 4790k, 16gb, asus xonar d1, 970, 256gb ssd for games, 3x 1tb's, and 1x 500gb hd as the boot drive. mostly WoW, skyrim, and gta 5.

i use my laptop for, well, being a laptop and messing around with linux.

also have a repurposed hp business desktop, 2gb ddr2 and a e6550 i picked up for free with a few 1tb hard drives running samba and nfs that i use as a file server for backups and storage. easy sharing between all my comps.

i like mac a lot and would have a mac pro instead of a custom built if apple got there shit together and released better performing graphic drivers and shipped their computers with decent video cards for the screen resolutions they use now.

i love linux and glad its getting more gaming support thanks to valve. its a fantastic hobbyist os. if WoW, skyrim, and gta 5 ran natively on linux i wouldn't have windows.
