My neighbor has set up a security camera peering into my backyard (confirmed deliberately to record me)

What's a cheap way of disabling it?

I'm thinking of shining an IR light into it or something

You could get an IR laser and point it at the camera. A light alone probably wouldn't be enough to disable the camera.
>>
>>47703509
well an IR lamp would be a good and non-harmfull solution, as is canfronting him about it, or if you feel even more introvert, calling the police.

or you could sneak past it in the middle of the night and adjust it to point away from your back yard.

what did you do to make your neighbour want to record you?

>>47703655
No, a few simple examples with casual wikipedia-tier or mainstream news media articles would be sufficient. I already did some casual googling and found that the laws are highly inconsistent, ambiguous, and contradictory, whereas you confidently proclaimed there's some kind of consensus.

Your extreme overreaction to my request for a citation is only making me more convinced you're a 12 year old troll.

Again you said: "illegal in every civilized country". A few countries, and a mainstream source. Not asking for the official statutes here.
>>
>>47703523

I've looked into it, and the law is murky. The camera is on their property and it isn't even looking directly at my property (they can see into my backyard through the wide field of view).

>>47703588

Ongoing property and personal disputes (on their part)

>>47703551

I don't know, just picked it up from image search lol

>>47703587

By 'disable' I only mean render it unable to record me.

Would IR work at daytime, or just night? I read there are sometimes IR filters on cameras - how common is this on residential cameras? What exactly do I buy?
>>
>>47703523

given the chance, i like being passive aggressive.
i would get a large plant in a pot that can block the camera and then place it in a very annoying way.
every time he moves the camera, so would i with my plant.

this could also be done with a sun umbrella in your garden or anything else that can be moved. do this until your neighbor gets really annoyed and starts asking you why you are moving your plant around all the time.

tell him it's all about energy and feng shui, you have to move the plant every time he moves his secret camera because otherwise the energyflow would be totally off balance.

Thanks for the video OP.
>>

Boundary line is currently under dispute, so can't alter fence to make it higher. Plus it would mean more money and hassle.

I just want a simple way to make the camera stop being able to see me and my backyard

Are you a member of CAM OVER?

The fact that you have masked gangs going around destroying private and public property is enough to convince me that you have a much bigger problem than "uncivilized" countries like the UK and the USA where private property owners are allowed to have cameras where the field of view includes areas of someone else's property.

I imagine it's a hyperreaction to the fact that your country was taken over by literal nazis.

Is your neighbor a MILF?
>>
>>47703628
This, easy. You could possibly do it out of the webcam's field of view depending on circumstances. Depending on how powerful a laser you get, you might only have to use it once. Arguably could get in trouble for intentionally damaging his property, but eh.
>>
If it is too near to your property I'd recommend smashing it to pieces. For this endeavor I'd recommend the greatest invention known to man, a baseball bat.
>>
>>47703707
Even if it has an IR filter, they aren't perfect. A mid range IR lasers (20-50mw) would still wash out the sensor. A powerful enough one could potentially burn out the CCD.
>>

>>47703707
>By 'disable' I only mean render it unable to record me.
>Would IR work at daytime, or just night? I read there are sometimes IR filters on cameras - how common is this on residential cameras? What exactly do I buy?

Some security cameras have IR filters which are mechanically slid out of the way then the illumination is low. It's not an uncommon feature, really. If the cameras are monochrome, they possibly don't have filter IR light. RGB cameras are almost guaranteed to filter non-visible light.

Regardless, a strong IR light or laser will blind the sensor - just like any other laser. You might experiment with a webcam, as they have IR cut filters almost invariably.

Shining IR lasers at other people's property isn't very nice because they're more dangerous than normal lasers to human eyes.
>>
>>47703827

I guess I'm just a nanny-state loving nazi-lover then, because to me destroying a security camera on an urban subway train is vandalism with no justification. Who gives a shit if the train is technically a government organization, what are they going to do with that? Oppress you by knowing what you and 5 million other people wore to work? I'd rather some asshole stealing wallets can be caught more easily.

Get one of those and mount it to some sort of stand with a ball joint. You can use your cell camera to see if you hit your target. It will be enough to disable but not destroy the target camera.

I can't believe I'm the first to say this. Make a Bluray laser and either burn the lens or the cables.
>>
>>47703764
You could ask that he point the camera away from your property, because it feels threatening to you that he is keeping tabs on your location within your property, which would actually be grounds for a lawsuit if he doesn't follow through.

then of course you could destroy property like
paint over the lens
shoot it from a spot that isn't being filmed
hit it with a high powered laser
cut the wires

or a more expensive and time consuming endeavor: but arguably more effective
set up a large suspended tarp from poles right up against the fence, making it much taller and MUCH uglier
>>
>>47703995
So are you telling me that if the train system is privatized, as it is in many countries, the camera magically becomes ok?

I really don't think you've thought this one through.

Option 1: Tell perv you want to set up a camera too to get access to feed, set up dummy camera. Send videos of granny animal hardsport porn through it when you go out to tan, re enable original feed when your finished....

if you actually did something i'd be legit worried. If you didn't you can file for harassment that he's filming you deliberately on your own property and keeping tabs on your location within said property, because that feels threatening to you. he's not allowed to harass you if you've done nothing wrong.

But OP, what exactly did you do to warrent the camera? did you do anything incriminating that he could have actually caught on camera?

Out of the question. Police have already called (by me) for trespassing & assault, stalking and verbal death threats. They think they own part of my land as well and are trying to repossess it (I've hired a surveyor).

I will probably report this matter to the police, but I wanted to see if there is an easier way to prevent it first.

>>47704031

I haven't done anything at all. In fact, I've had to call the police to protect myself against their actions several times. One of their motives is that they think they own part of my land (since they won't do it, I've hired to a surveyor to clear the matter up).

They moved in about a year or two ago and are the neighbors from hell.
>>
just get one of those very powerful lasers (not the cheap pointer ones, but the green ones, usually 5mw) and have it pointed directly at the camera

that will mess up the entire image and look like a giant green blob to the camera. probably even burn part of the camera sensor if it's a cheaper one

alternatively you can just put up a infrared ligthbulb facing the camera

Pretty sure telling a child to perform naked for a camera that just happens to be there, for the express purpose of creating child pornography, is going to get you sent to jail and make the neighbor look justified in putting up a camera due to his crazy neighbor.

IR laser, would work assuming there's no IR cut filter. It's hard to say without the specific model number.

If it's wireless you could jam it, but that's risky as far as FCC or similar regulations go.

Most consumer security shit doesn't have IR cut filters. Get the camera model and we can help you out OP.

Also yeah you could just aim a spot light at it, and it'll blind it, IR cut filter or not.

If you have a homeowners association they almost always have lots of regs about security cameras, what types, how large, external lights, and where they point. it sucks getting bitched at by a HOA and they'll will eventually send out crazy fines that if left unpayed, can get a person evicted.

place a very obscene sculpture in front of the camera.

Not always, it depends on the particular neighborhood you're in. My parents live in a subdivision with a pretty wimpy HOA. Every year the association sends them a letter saying they owe like $75 in dues, and my parents throw it in the garbage. One time my mom showed up at a meeting and the HOA president reprimanded her for not paying. To which she replied "Whaddaya gonna do? Not invite me to that easter-egg hunt you hold every year?" And since that's pretty much all the association does is put on dinky little events like that, yeah, that's pretty much all they did.

I have an old gif of this saved somewhere.

Throw bubblegum on it you retard stop overcomplicating things
Or just pull a gun and shoot it down if you amerilard
>>
Are you hiding CP on your backyard OP?
>>

I dunno why people are telling you to shoot it with an airgun.

you're in america, do it right
>>
>>47703970
>from a dead angle
>>47704000
>shoot it from a spot that isn't being filmed

>without having the camera see you first.
>>47704453
>Also you can shoot it from some place out od the camera's FOV.
>>47705263
>Mask yourself at night

Why even bother concealing your identity? It would be painfully obvious who destroyed it.
>>
>>47705860
The question is if they can actually prove it or not.
>>
I always thought that here in /g/ we are actually only 20 or so people and always take different personalities.
>>
>>47705910
who gives a fuck if he can proove it.
>>
>>47703590
So fake
>>
>>47705350

Muh dick.
>>
>>47705584
Dragon's breath is fun as hell, but you have to be so damn careful it's almost not worth it.
>>
>>47705951
Uh OP should care about it. If the neighbor can prove it then the OP will be liable for destruction of property... you know, fines, police and all that spaz
>>
>>47705910
>I didn't do nuttin'!
Tell that to judge.

The absolute dumbest thing you could do if you have an active legal process is actually contribute evidence against yourself.

I mean, holy shit, how can anybody on /g/ even be stupid enough to think destroying the camera would be a good idea?

The goal here is to prevent it from filming OP. NOT to destroy it.

Jesus.

Plausable deniability
>>
>>47706080
How about
>don't fucking do it

Who the fuck do you think the biggest suspect is going to be?
>>
>>47706071
Because this board is filled with high school children who think just because they watched a youtube video how to put a computer together they are smart.

Anyone who actually believes OP story in the first place is dumb as fuck
>>
>>47703707
>Ongoing property and personal disputes (on their part)
such as?
>>
>>47705584
>dragon breath in a forest
10/10 stupid
>>
>>47706080
Uh? Please explain. Plausible deniability only works in this case if something else in addition to the camera was damaged, such a vandalism attack where the entire wall was damaged and maybe some of OP property in the process... it is just too much work just to take out a camera.
>>
>>47703509
shine a bright laser into the lens
>>
>>47704320
right because it costs zero dollars to run four 500 watt lights. 24 hours a day.
>>
>>47706066
ya, I would like to see that go to court.

>OP walked on to my property to destroy that camera I was using to watch them without their permission. I mean my property isnt posted or nuthin, im just a pervert.
>>
Maybe you could ask them to stop.

Grab a gasmask to hide who you are, then beat them to death with a toolbox, like a man.

This.
>>
>>47703509
>What's a cheap way of disabling it?
Smash it with a hammer or baseball bat
>>
>>47705860
>It would be painfully obvious who destroyed it.
Right. Some random predatory bird decided to fuck the camera up.

Fuck birds, amirite?
>>
>>47703523
you're supposed to call a lawyer, not the police
>>
>>47706182
OP would have to prove that those cameras were used to watch him and watch him almost exclusively if that were to be any sort of argument.
>>
At the of not sounding autistic, have you tried simply talking to your neighbour about your concern and ask them not to record you? Maybe make friends even?

Go on Craigslist and find the biggest thing you can find under the free section. Make an art project and block line of sight and troll them at the same time. Here is a random "big" thing under my craiglist. Plus free diabetes, pic related:
>>
>>47706685
no, all he would have to do is say,

"he is pointing cameras at my property without my permission"

"his purpose is to intimidate me"

You cant record someone without their permission if its a private residence.
>>
pay a pack of negros and beaners to jump him on his way to work and to have their way with his wife while he's gone. that'll teach him.

Free Guarana? Holy shit, someone go pick that up.

Set up a dressing area in full view of the camera. Hire some underage kids to get changed in view of the camera, or if you have kids of your own just use them. Hey presto, your creepy neighbour is now recording child porn, and can now be arrested and possibly evicted as a result of a lengthy court case.

It's entirely legal to record someone else's property as long as it's only overlap. In other words, as long as the majority of the picture is the guy's property, OP has no case.
>>
>>47707238

>Oh! people don't like being spied? Shocking revelation, take notes of that, computer.
>>
.22 should take it out.
>>
Since it's probably recordind with motion detection (every camera have it nowday) mount someting in your property wich will always be on movement, like elium baloon or a little disco light, so the camera will stay on record 24h and fill it's stupid disk. This way he he want to see "something" he have to watch the entire day long footage, assuming he have enought space to record it.

you can get those from walmart for cheap

If there is the slightest bit of wire exposed, take a long sewing needle and pierce the insulation and short the camera. The damge will be undetectable.I've done this before...

Are you underage? If not then this will work too, but you'll have to put up a skeevy craigslist add that advertises for underaged couples to have a space to come fuck if they can't fuck at each others houses or the back of a car.

Anyway, either an underaged you or the kids you got through craigslist go ahead and fuck in full view of the camera when nobody is likely to be monitoring the feed and then you report your neighbors for recording and possession of Child Pornography.

What is with all those posts about getting underage children to be naked in front of the camera? Pedophiles need to fuck off.
>>
>>47708802
Because people want to fuck over the OP's neighbors because most people have or have had asshole neighbors, and nobody fucks people over harder than Johnny Law.
