What does /g/ think of the Wacom Cintiq
>>
i want one but cant afford one, i am saving for the cheaper non-screen ones doe
>>
>>47600498
Good but overpriced.
>>
>>47600512
they are literally 50€/$
>>
>>47600532
i dont have a job , i am useless
>>
>>47600498
overpriced as fuck because they have a monopoly and all the patents on their batteryless pen.

Its much cheaper to get a surface pro or something and use that instead
>>
>>47600571
surface pro uses wacom technology
>>
>>47600532
OPs pic is a Wacom Cintiq.
http://www.wacom.com/en-es/products/pen-displays/cintiq-22-hd

They are LITERALLY 1799€

> i am saving for the cheaper non-screen ones

reading comprehension guys
>>
>>47600589
yes but its cheaper than a cintiq
>>
>>47600616
you didn't specify which tablet you were talking about.
Specificity, dickwad
>>
>>47600498
>>>/ic/
they're surprisngly not great for painting, since your arm obstructs half screen all the time, and they require you to assume an unnatural posture, compared to the cheap drawing tablets
>>
>>47600498
Sister has the biggest one. Not really impressed myself. If I wanted something like that, I'd really just get a non-Wacom alternative display.

But really, I'd suggest using a graphics tablet without screen. Get an Intuos Pro or some Wacom alternative that has a comparable resolution. No need for a display on it, it works better without one anyhow.
>>
>>47602280
Oh gee I wonder how all the fucking artists from the beginning of humanity drew and painted before fucking drawing tablets were invented.
>>
>>47602361
I highly doubt your sister has a 27" Wacom Cintiq.
>>
>>47600571
>>47600589
Surface Pro is pretty good considering that it doubles as a tablet/laptop and uses Wacom. I've tested it out with the one my buddy has. Currently I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 12 and it does the job pretty good but it's limited to what apps lets you do with their apps.

Apps I use on it are ArtFlow which is a simple easy app to use missing tons of features but if you are going to do doodles in higher resolution you probably want to start with it first for sketches

Second one I use is LayerPaintHD. This App is the closest I've seen from others in the store that comes close to a proper drawing tool. After I finish my sketches in ArtFlow I usually import transparents to LayerPaintHD and finish up there. Neat features but still has limits.
>>
>>47602423
I can post proof.

Give me a moment to go over to my sister's room and take pictures
>>
>>47600571
I heard their patents expired like 5 years ago, other companies just haven't made anything competitive enough.
>>
>>47602438
take pics of your sis pls
>>
>>47600589
The Surface Pro 3 uses nTrig, which honestly isn't a bad thing
>>
>>47600571
You're fucking stupid, the patents have expired, and Hanvon makes the ArtMaster III and the SenTIP 1201WD which are basically Intuos 4 and Cintiq 12WX copies.

>>47602430
Too bad the edges of the Surface Pro's tracking is flaky as fuck, and Android is shit for real productivity.
>>
>>47602448
They have more than 1 patent on that bullshit. If they didn't, everyone would easily be able to replicate what they do for 1/4 the price.
>>
>>47602423
She does. She also had the biggest Intuos 3 (or what it was) before she sold it.

She also has quite a lot of money in /a/ buyfag figurines.

Y'know, adults can afford this kinda stuff...
>>
>>47600498
great tool for professionals, more often than not gets used by extremely untalented internet hacks
>>
>>47602473
Answer me this question.
When did your sister buy that Cintiq?
>>
>>47602482
About one-two years ago? Not entirely sure anymore. I visited her a bit later, but I try to do that periodically.

Maybe you're right with what you're hinting at and it's not the current biggest model anymore though. Might have been the "then" biggest and twenty-somethingelse inches.
>>
Is a Wacom bamboo good enough to get my webcomic up and running?
>>
>>47600498
What's /g/'s opinion on the Huion 610?
>>
>>47602523
Yes, takes a bit of getting used to since instead of looking at your work you see it on screen.
>>
>>47602523
Pen, paper, and a scanner is enough.

A craftsman doesn't blame his tools.
>>
>>47602523
The cheaper Wacom line has been always pretty... shit.

But technically, it'd probably do the job. Also see the next lines for an alternative.

>>47602527
Get the "Pro". It's good then.
>>
>>47602505
Which is why I fucking called bullshit.

The 27" Cintiq was just announced January 2015
Limited availability was February with a limited batch which sold out within days.

Wacom has been out of stock ever since and the Touch version won't be released until next month.

There is no way in hell your sister could have bought the "largest cintiq" unless she preordered it and got it during the limited stock in February this year.

I don't doubt that your sister has the cash to buy a Cintiq, but I call bullshit on your "largest cintiq" part of your comment.

>>47602523
Wacom bamboo is no longer being made and is replaced by the Intuos, which is good enough for your webcomics.

>>47602527
If you only have a single screen and are prepared to spend time getting it to work as the drivers are fuck awful and lack functionality. Then go for it. Most other companies like Monoprice rebrands Huion.
>>
>>47602542
Thanks, m8.
>>
>>47602417

Oh gee I wonder how people used to travel long distances before the wheel was invented

Who gives a fuck about the obsolete way of doing something
>>
>>47602523
You can do anyone on a bamboo you can on a cintiq. Just get used to drawing by looking at the screen.
>>
>>47602280

>>
Huion H610 Pro motherfuckers.
>>
I have one of these fellas, how are they for drawfagging?
>>
>>47602679
From the models that I've seen -which didn't include this specific one- they're worse than the cheaper Wacoms.

But I guess that doesn't really have to stop you from drawfagging. It's not such a great tool, but people have made nice things with shitty tools since forever...
>>
>>47600498
Had a slight lag to it when brush stroking. Perfer intuos a nice big one to work on. Those cintiq are mostly for storyboarding, comics, design.
>>
>>47602679
>Low resolution
>256 lvls of pressure sensitivity
>Old obsolete hardware, or low powered hardware.

Ok for doodling and taking notes, shit for actual productivity. Also heavy as fuck compared to other slate or hybrid tablets like the Encore 2 Write or Surface Pro

Dude maybe he was talking about the 22 or 24 inch cintiq that was "the largest cintiq" 1-2 years ago.

>What are context clues?

Anyways I own a WACOM Cintiq13HD and to be honest it's nice and it's completely changed the way I animate.I have owned it for almost a year now and I can't really work efficiently without it anymore. However I'm not entirely happy with the sort of "lag" that comes with it. I mean it's something like 13 MS on a professional tablet that's also not even IPS. I've been wanting to get the Companion or whatever the fuck the other one is that is an actual computer. But I'm so fucking gay I want to keep using OSX and I can't do that with the computer version of the cintiq.

For those that are wondering what I do, I'm a 3D Animator and I do some doodling in Photoshop from time to time (I don't do it much cause I think i'm shit tier)
>>
>>47602793
He simply stated the "largest Cintiq" which is false.

If he stated 22 or 24 then there would have been no problems, but you can't go around saying the largest when it is not true.

It's like going around and saying that your V6 Mustang is the largest when there is a V8.

As for the 13HD it's around the same size as the Intuos 4/5/Pro Medium which is arguably the most popular size in regards to area and usability.

The Companion will depreciate much faster and become obsolete before your Cintiq 13HD will simply because it's bound to the hardware that it's ships with while your 13HD can be just plugged into beefier hardware.

Unless you absolutely need that ultraportability, in which case, people still complain that the the companion is much too heavy for long usage without a table.
>>
wacom digitizers are laggy and inherently inaccurate. they've been dragging heels coming up with new tech because, as somebody mentioned, they've had a monopoly for decades.

yeah, wireless pen tech was useful back in the '80s and '90s, when pens took, like, two C batteries or a mini 2-stroke engine to power up without a cable.
but we've had tiny Li-ion cells for a long time now.

wacom's been coasting on sexy product design and "common knowledge" marketing ("everybody KNOWS professionals only use wacoms").

the best digitzers are currently made by UC-logic. the products they're used in aren't as polished as wacom's, but it's getting there.

the first cintiq knockoff with uc-logic chipset and IPS screen should be along soon, here

>>47600589
>surface pro uses wacom technology
not any more they don't.
>>
>>47602640
yes. H610 is fantastic

avoid bamboos---they're just recycled intuos 3 tech. really, really bad.
>>
>>47602879
Okay dude stop with the semantics. Please.

This guy doesn't seem like he knows much about the line of cintiqs, nor really cares enough to research more about it. It's really fucking easy to midjudge a few inches when you don't know the technical specs of it. You're literally sperging out cause someone doesn't fucking know the exact specifications of his sisters cintiq, one that he apparently doesn't live with. I'm not going to continue with technicalities and semantics over something so obviously fucking stupid.

>>47602879
>As for the 13HD it's around the same size as the Intuos 4/5/Pro Medium which is arguably the most popular size in regards to area and usability.
My previous tablet was the Intuos4 Medium, I know.

>The Companion will depreciate much faster and become obsolete before your Cintiq 13HD will simply because it's bound to the hardware that it's ships with while your 13HD can be just plugged into beefier hardware. I understand that. I won't be using it for games. The scenes and things I'll be animating and doing will not even be dense enough to tax the IGP majority of the time. I would like something that if I go out I don't need to lug around my rMBP and a bunch of other shit just to get it working. If I'm going to my internship and plan to stay for several hours to work then yeah my current 13HD is fine, but I have to carry a lot of things just to get it usable. Cables + Computer + Keyboard (If I decide to use it with the lid closed, which I do most of the time). Way too much shit that takes up way too much space, when I could just have one single computer that I can do all the stuff I want to on without that much space used and is extremely portable in comparison to my current setup.

TL;DR: I like convenience?
>>
>>47602361
>But really, I'd suggest using a graphics tablet without screen
I don't know if you ever tried to draw with those things but drawing with seeing makes it slightly harder, its why the large cintiqs are cool, you see how your hand moves when you draw

Another cool thing you can do with the large ones is get a arm for it and attaching it somewhere
>>
>>47603026
>wacom digitizers are laggy and inherently inaccurate.

Evidence?

>yeah, wireless pen tech was useful back in the '80s and '90s, when pens took, like, two C batteries or a mini 2-stroke engine to power up without a cable. but we've had tiny Li-ion cells for a long time now.

Fortunately, Wacom pens require no batteries.

>the products they're used in aren't as polished as wacom's, but it's getting there

If the pens require batteries and don't have the features of a basic Intuos, they'll be worthless no matter what.
>>
>>47600498
i think the consense is that intuos are better for painting, while cintiq is better for inking

iirc that's more or less what feng zhu said.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOm9lkHS7Hw

>>47602627
that rule makes no sense. whatever.
>>
>>47602879
>He simply stated the "largest Cintiq" which is false.
False now, anyhow. As you yourself said:
> The 27" Cintiq was just announced January 2015.

> It's like going around and saying that your V6 Mustang is the largest when there is a V8.
For some reason I can't seem to see the problem there either.

>>47603124
> I don't know if you ever tried to draw with those things but drawing with seeing makes it slightly harder, its why the large cintiqs are cool, you see how your hand moves when you draw
Hm? In my case, I know how my hand will move, but I saw the cursor pointer and the image worse with my hand there.

It's easier working with a digitizer that is not sitting directly on top of your screen, IMO.

> Another cool thing you can do with the large ones is get a arm for it and attaching it somewhere
Ergonomy severely constrains the angles you could mount this thing at, unlike with monitors.

Though I guess the arm might help with ergonomy a little, the stand didn't seem all that great.
>>
>>47603285
>I saw the cursor pointer
It should be possible to hide the cursor when using the stylus, which you probably want to do.
>>
>>47603293
>It should be possible to hide the cursor when using the stylus
not in photoshop.
>>
>>47602679
They're good enough for Stjepan Sejic, if that tells you anything.

He uses an X220T
>>
>>47603026
The only laggy ones are the ones that come with 256 pressure sensitivity interpolated to 1024, AKA any digitalizer compatible with the Wacom FEEL drivers, which are meant for writing.
>>
>>47600498
Who is that cheap whore?
>>
>wacom

fuck samsung
>>
>>47604999
It shouldn't be hard to run something when it detects the tablet and hide the cursor. Also, aren't there programs better suited for tablets than Photoshop?
