Let's be honest with ourselves here.

This is the only distribution you should ever consider.
And if you hate Unity or Amazon or whatever, just use Xfce/Xubuntu.

Done, end of story.
This should be the last distribution thread ever made on /g/.

The point of installing *ubuntu is precisely not having to use the minimal installer in my opinion. Still, I see your point and it's true the minimal installer is there, but I always overlooked it.

It's Xubnuntu with none of the reccomended packages, just what you need to run the system

Came without the software center, photo viewer, music player, CD burner, office suite, ect. so you can chose your own.

Just google Xubuntu minimal install
>>

yeah, it's not for everyone, but it is common knowledge that you can always grab the minimal iso.

And that's why Ubuntu is rather bad.
Example: qBittorrent. Ubuntu has 3.1.8 which is rather ancient by now, where the actual current stable release is 3.1.12.
>>

moar like bloatsuse

I replaced the word "open" with "bloat" to signify my opinion about the distro. It comes with a lot of unnecessary software by default, hence the description of bloat.

When you get to software selection

There will be a Xubuntu minimal option

I know it dosen't show in this picture, but it is there because I got it myself a month ago

I didn't say to follow the guide all the way and put Xfce on top did I? No I told him that there is a Xubuntu minimal option there, because there is! Don't argue with me about this fact because it is 100% true.
>>
>>47579500
Ignoring the fact that this is clearly b8, that would kill one of the biggest selling points of Linux, and just FOSS in general. Sure, maybe Ubuntu is the best all-round distro (I'd say that's Debian myself, but whatever), but not everybody is looking for an all-round distro. The sheer amount of choice that becomes available when you have so many people working on a vaguely tied-together project means that nine times out of ten there'll be something to fit your specific variety of autism - and if there isn't, you can either modify something else or, provided you have the skill required, make your own.

I agree with OP that Ubuntu is the only distro you can really consider for desktop. It's not just the babby tier software store they have it's all the little things. Like how easy it is to install codecs and other proprietary shit that other distros make you jump through hoops for. And it has nice fonts by default. The other distros have you jump through hoops once again to get infinality to work.

>>47580378
Will never understand the love for Mint. /g/ usually hates bloat in every way but Linux distros seem to the exception. Everyone just recommends the most bloated distro because everyone knows that never having to install a single program ever is what makes a good OS.
>>
>>47579951
Clearly you've never actually installed OpenSUSE. The DVD is big but most of it is optional. It's entirely possible to install a minimal OS with OpenSUSE. That said, I simply don't like OpenSUSE's package manager or centralised settings software, so I use Arch instead.

There are two types of Linux users:
