holy fuck, it is?
I just pirated it to dick around trying to try and teach myself how to use the Windows Scripting Host.

Well I did pirate 3D studio MAX back in like 2004, and it was worth ~$10,000 even back then. Fortunately I dont think that anyone actually cares if a home user pirates this shit, only when people use it to make programs they actually sell for a profit
>>
>>47087355
No, not really. $14k isn't a huge investment for a product that is essential for the core business. You obviously have no idea what companies spend on equipment and licensing if you think that's a big deal. I've submitted travel expenses in that range. Travel. Not even something that you use to create the product that you sell.

This, very much. You'd be smart to get used to everything, including visual studio or at least some other massive IDE.

I'd also recommend getting at least a feel for vim, it will be on every linux server you ever use.
>>
Why is everyone forgetting there is a FREE COMMUNITY EDITION now
it's the same, you just can't use it on a team of more than 5 members. BUT, if you are working on a open source project, you can use it with more than 5.

So if you have a business making proprietary software, you need to pay.
>>

No shit. Also, they don't expect an individual to pay that.
>>
>>47087452
How? I can barely get calls back, I submitted a resume to all the major studios and even shit companies like micro$oft. The best I can get is a call from some whore in HR who doesn't even know how to code.

If you really want to use an IDE you are litteraly better off using Code::Blocks

>>
>search the web to find the most ultimate version with all addons
>MS IS RIPPING PEOPLE OFF

in reality everyone uses free community version
>>
>>47090651
Actually, I think Microsoft is ripping off companies. Most of the money MS made until now came from companies being tricked into thinking they need expensive "professional" software. Microsoft needs to milk companies and governments periodically to make a profit.

In Romania, right now, there is a scandal about how Microsoft officials bribed government officials to determine the government to buy Windows upgrades for PCs which already had licenses. In total, Microsoft made 400 milion $ from these contracts, which the government didn't really need. They were probably not even used (the upgrades) since the PCs used in institutions were old.

Oracle tried to do the same thing and sell overpriced software and upgrades for hundreds of milions of dollars, just because it's easier to bribe government officials than to run an actual serious business.

The EU already caught onto these business practices by USA companies in Europe and that's why you see so many antitrust cases against big IT companies from the US.

Make no mistake, this is not a fluke, an odd case, it's a business model for Microsoft and other big IT companies.
>>

In Romania too? In Serbia MS bribed government to order all public institutions to use MS products instead of linux, free ones. It suits me tho, i am learning to become mcsa
>>
>>47090808
Well, yeah, they weren't tricked. Obviously, the government officials just wanted to get a big fat bribe (one guy got 9 milion $ bribe from Microsoft to influence government officials to make the decision to buy from Microsoft).

>>47090809
Yeah, I heard this happened in a few countries in Eastern Europe too.

It looks like Microsoft's huge profits come from these schemes with companies and governments, because that's where the big bucks are.

$14k is a lot of money for a startup or single person though. So they wont pay it, and probably end up developing their own workflow around cheaper or even free tools. Once a workflow is established, it's damn near impossible to change it, so they're not going to switch to VS later if they become successful.

Why don't they do this in the first place? It's not like visual studio is a stelar tool. Infact, it's pretty underwhelming for more experienced users and can really confuse curious new users who actually like to understand shit.
>>
>>47091253
>honestly a debugger is crucial
If you cannot solve your problems with a simple debugging tool you're doing something very very wrong.

I never understood people's hardons with debuggers. After doing this shit for 10 years I've learned to use them, yes, but I still need little more than a rewind and simple memory reading. Even in C++ for god's sake. Are you guys that shit at programming?

How much of a clusterfuck does a specific language have to be that you have to have a super featured, sandwich making debugger to work with it?

worst advice ever.

learn linux and java, you'll make more money and your job won't depend on a dying ecosystem
>>

Hell yeah man, Microsoft Dreamspark is a God-tier thing that a lot of people seem to forget about too often at my university. I got Windows for both of my PC's and Visual Studio for free (obviously only with paid tuition and all that bullshit, that is).

i wouldn't hire any of you who couldn't work in VS' IDE.

You run BSD, good for you. But you want to work for me? You better know your goddamn botnets, child

Why do you want that? Any win machine can compile program you write, you don't need IDE for starting programs you wrote.

You will not get hired at one of the big companies without something that makes you really stand out. Be it great grades at a prestigious school or some sort of extraordinary experience. They have so many people applying every day that they can be very picky in their choices.

>>47099705
I guess it depends on the company.

seems like all of the them are hiring IT people as fast as possible where I live because the old people are leaving in waves.
