But arch is the best distro.

So, uh, how do I interact with this thing? Running in vbox, right click, enter, space, left click, middle click, nothing.

I can change vterms, thats about it.

so it's the arch version of crunchbang then?

Holy shit you guys are actually making progress

read the i3 manual and the config. But to get you started, Windows + Enter opens terminal and Windows + D opens the application launcher
>>

naah, it already exists http://wiki.archbang.org/index.php?title=Main_Page

It looks like a ricer arch linux that works outside the box
>>
Srsly OPs, I was watching these threads since some months and it's amazing to see this happen.

I love you!
>>
>using a tiling wm
why
>>
>>47055487
i3 is primarily keybind-based. You'll have to memorize a lot of keybinds to interact with stuff. Luckily, you can configure it to basically use whatever keybinds for whatever task you want.
>>
Will this spark controversy?

The logos logo could basically be arch logo fliped on its side. Its also easier to install

also, distrowatch news when?

Dev here, please note: THIS WILL BE THE LAST ISO TO BE RELEASED UNTIL RICEDB IS COMPLETED.
We have authored the v0.3.0 ISO to attract attention and hopefully recruit more developers as well as provide /g/ with a functioning demo. Our primary focus has shifted to development on the RiceDB which we believe is a much more unique and useful thing to devote our effort on than a prericed-rebranded Linux distro. Once RiceDB has passed the preliminary stages of development we will resume development of Lo/g/os, which will be designed as a distro to utilize and display RiceDB's power as a rice manager. Feel free to ask any questions or hop by the gitter, we will try to answer any questions/address concerns.
>>
good work guise, looks pretty sweet.

still, /g/ebian would have been cooler
>>
>>47055525
When you get used to, you wount want to miss it anymore, trust me. Afaik theres also a "floating mode" which behaves like a nowmal WM. Right?
>>
>>47055556
By default i3 is in floating mode. Use mod + shift + space to toggle between floating and tiling mode.

Ive never used a tiling windows manager before but i have a question, what happens if you need to open a bunch of windows?

On windows i just use some virtual desktops and KDE and cinnamon and unity have these too.
>>
>>47055728
On i3 you can open a terminal with mod+enter.
Multiple workspaces with mod+number.

Does that answer the questions?
>>
>>47055748
>Multiple workspaces
Yes
>>
so you're calling a distro its own OS?

you consider re-skinning some tiling wm, and giving people a few pre-compile programs its own OS? Are you dense?
>>
>>47055782
Which is why we're making the riceDB. We realized that doing that barely qualifies for anything so we've switched development to something genuinely unique and useful.
>>
>>47055792
What's the riceDB?
>>
>>47055796
https://github.com/install-logos/riceDB
rice manager
>>
>>47055796
Read the github. But to sum it up it's a configuration file manager that will make it easy to download and swap out configurations for any program. It will also enable users to easily package and upload their own rices to a database from which any other user of the DB can pull that rice and use it.

>>
Can I up from arch (vanilla, but with a shit tonne of AUR) to lo/g/os?
>>
>>47055828
Yep. Just mount the iso and copy over the configuration files located in /root/ to your own, or look in the rice repo of the github, which is simpler but a bit more outdated.
>>
>>47055828
It is pretty similar, but you would need to do the theming. Currently lo/g/os is not very much of an OS in its own right -- you are only missing out on some configs and the screenfetch.

>>
>>47055374
how exactly was the ISO made and what was included that makes it so different from vanilla arch?
>>
>>47056453
arch has a tool to make iso's easily and quickly; archiso. The OS is not rally anything more than a themed Arch distro with a quick setup.
>>
>>47056453
Almost nothing. Just simple rebranding and a few configs. That's why we're developing riceDB. We want to offer something genuinely unique and interesting, and Lo/g/os will eventually be used to showcase it's power/functionality.
>>
>>47056466
YEAH
>>
>>47056463
>>47056466
ahh, okay. neat.

i'm totally okay with /g/ having it's own "crunchbang of arch".
>>
>>47057031
But people have already done things like that, e.g. jiyuu and tidos. Both failed and had no significant impact on the community. We want to make riceDB something that basically anyone on /g/ or in general will be able to use.
>>
Website has been updated with new screenshots and a javascript plugin to display them nicely. We've also changed up the ordering of the sections to created a nicer looking website overall.

>>
>>47057155

Arch Linux (or Arch /ˈɑrtʃ/)[3] is a Linux distribution for i686 and x86-64 computers.[4] It is composed predominantly of free and open-source software,[5] and supports community involvement.[6]

>>
>>47057155
What is it then, sperglord?
>>
>>47057171
It is NOT a full OS, it's the equivalent of a liveCD right now. You should not use it as an OS, but rather treat it as a preview. In addition, the screenshots are from a fresh install. No packages or configs were changed prior to taking those screenshots.
>>
>>47055374

How the fuck do you even open the terminal on this?

alt+enter doesn't work
>>
>>47057334
Check the i3 config file, I had to change the terminal command to a different terminal.
>>
>>47057340

How do you even check the config file?
>>
>>47057334
windows + enter
>>
>>47057343
read the github page. it's in the ~/.i3/ folder
>>
>>47057352

Can't find shit in this folder about urxvt opening.
>>
>>47057343
How are you in the the OS, a vm, actuall boot?

If you open a file a browser, like ranger you can type
>: set show_hidden true
and in the home folder there should be a file called .i3. In that there will be a file called conf, and you can edit the line where it should say
>### urxvt keybind
>bindsym $mod+Return exec --no-startup-id urxvt

This should be changed to
>bindsym $mod+Return exec i3-sensible-terminal
>>
>>47057347

Didn't work for me
>>
>>47057380

How the fuck am I suppose to open up ranger if I don't have access to a terminal in the first place? Sorry for sounding rude or anything, I don't get what $mod is set to.
>>
>>47057377
what folder do you need exactly?
>>
>>47057395

I want to be able to open up the terminal.

Windows + enter doesn't work.
I don't know what $mod is set to in the .i3 config file.
>>
>>47057388
Try mod+shift+e
That should get you out of i3, and into a CLI.
>>
>>47057388
It's set to mod4, or the Windows/Meta key.
>>
>>47057404

Alt + Shift + E

Doesn't do anything. I'm starting to think that this VM isn't taking any of my input from my keyboard for some reason.
>>
>>47057415
If windows + enter or anything else doesn't work then it is probably that your VM is not accepting your keyboard input.
>>
>>47056049
I couldn't get that to work with Debian. Halp?
>>
>>47057402
Windows enter should work. If not try Windows + D to enter dmenu and try to launch urxvt manually.
>>
>>47057415
That sounds strange indeed.
What are you running it in? Is it a vm, or another computer?

You may be able to open the config file from another locaion, and edit it manually.
When my arch computer with i3 does what it sounds like yours is doing, I have had to wither wait a long period, or reboot. Of course, I generally have only locked up i3, not been stuck.
>>
>>47057430
Explain your issue, please.
>>
>>47057451

I'm running it in a virtual box right now. I've tried re-booting and everything. Seems like anything I enter, i3 doesn't reply to.
>>
>>47057468
It's possible your virtual box isn't properly configured to send the meta(windows) key to the OS. Try checking your settings to ensure this isn't the case.
>>
Alright you fags you convinced me, imma try this shit out on my laptop. This better be good.
>>
>>47057468
And you are just running that from a iso file, not unpacked into anything, that is, correct?
>>
winfag here, I have it in a vm, how do I install it?
>>
>>47057486

>pic related

>>47057476

It's configured properly.
>>
>>47057502
Does windows + d not do anything either?
>>
>>47057499
There is no install. You just boot straight from the ISO.
