How hard do you lot think it would be to put together a panel? Something along the lines of tint2, just a bit more flexible. I'm thinking integrated command line for launching stuff (autocompletes, drops all launched processes to init, redirects output to stay cleared, etc), dropdown submenus, custom setup per screen on multiple screen desktops and maaaybe a global menu.. Since nobody really likes menus on windows with no titlebar anyway.. Thoughts?

If its a lightweight laptop you seek, the acer c720p chromebook has been quite good for me. Granted, it doesn't have that much power, but it is lightweight (3 lbs) and has quite good battery life. Works okay for shitposting and studying/coding. Arch has full installation guide in the wiki, and even antergos installs easily. The ssd and battery aren't soldered on, and changing them is fairly easy. Best 150$ I ever spent.

Damn, that's cheap. Hopefully that means I can get something as portable with even more power and functionality with a $400 budget. I am waiting until right before I need it, though, so no need to go through effort and help me pick one just yet, though I appreciate the thought. In case this isn't bait:

Learn how to properly backup your system and double boot linux on your laptop. You'll probably want to start with Ubuntu because it is a breeze to install. Once you learn more you can install other distros that require more know-how.

Then learn how to use the terminal (google command line) and how to install programs on your linux machine.

Once you wander sufficiently down this rabbit hole, you'll be ricing in no time. The ricing on here generally involves installing a window manager (tiling or not) and modifying a bunch of configuration files.
