If the Chromebook Pixel 2 had a M.2 PCI-e SSD and good Linux support it would beat the shit out of the MacBook Air.

>you will never own the perfect laptop
>great 12 hour battery life
>GOAT 3:2 IPS 2560x1700 display
>x2 USB type C along with x2 USB 3.0
>i7 with 16GB of RAM, ideal for VMs
>sexy as fuck angular design

Why did Google choose to fuck it up so hard

It's not for the masses. It's an enthusiast device

sure thing buddy

you can get full Linux on there

I know that, I'm saying if it had a M.2 PCI-e SSD and support for other operating systems it would be the only true macbook air competitor along with the xps 13

>soldered ssd
why google
why?

Good luck having a Windows VM, an OSX VM and a couple of minimal Linux/BSD VMs on that.

It's a fucking Chromebook.

Because they only sell chromebooks to make people use google botnet more. Ever wondered why they have ridiculously small (soldered) ssds?

newsflash: devices aren't restricted to the OS they are shipped with
>>
>>47034605
You can access a windows/Linux/Mac PC thru remote desktop. You can code or game your ass off as long as your WiFi is strong.

you do have the right to be uninformed
>>
>>47034693
and yet in a different thread i've read that it's a pain in the ass to do so, and even then it requires you to fuck with it every startup to work properly. if one can get a proper distro on one of these things, i'm more than interested.

I run full arch in a chroot of chromeos on my c720. You can also erase chromeos entirely and install full distros through seabios on most models. The only annoyance is on boot you have to press alt+l to bring up Linux but it isn't a big deal or even very annoying.
>>
>>47036962
Download crouton from the github page, sudo sh -e ~/Downloads/crouton -t "your WM here", wait for it to install, enter username and pass, sudo startYourWMName. Now you have a live Linux instance you can switch to using ctrl+alt+shift+forward button and back button to go between chrome and your choice.
Ctrl+d on startup to accept dev mode is all it takes, along with the start command to restart the crouton instance.

Its really quite easy. Even more so than a normal Linux install.

I think I could make 64 gigs work.. especially if the SD card doesn't stick out of the slot at all.
>>
>>47038145
it doesn't, and if you have a blue sandisk sd, it provides a nice accent IMO.
>>
>>47038160
Adding a 256GB SD card to Pixel 2 seems like a good idea.

I know that it'd be slower, but probably fast enough for media.

I'm waiting for more people to buy Pixel 2 so I can hear how the pure Linux experience is -- no interest in ChromeOS or this crouton thing here...
>>
>>47038210
It will work for media, but not for anything else.
>>
lol i tried installing f20 on it. it took hours before i said fuck it. or maybe its just yum, idk
>>
>>47038309
what do you mean?
I can put whatever filesystem I want on it.

It might be slower to put my $HOME on it, but it would still work
>>
It doesn't have good Linux support?
>>
>>47038903
all the drivers have been released by google, so yes the hardware is supported
>>
>>47038309
lol shut up retard, you obviously don't know shit. Unless you mean how unpractical it is to use an sd for the OS

Soldered 64gb SSD Max. True polished turd Facebook terminal. Would rather be forced to use MacBook Air new.
>>
It can't be the perfect laptop without the powerful clitmice.
>>
I would honestly love this laptop. But I never like installing Arch where it's not intended, breaks too often. Reminds me of hackintoshes.
