What do you mean shaping up? so far the UI is getting less and less retarded but that's because unbelievably it got that retarded to begin with. That's about the only outstanding achievement Microsoft has accomplished ever since it fugged up with Windows 8. And even that's against their own wishes. Public hated Metro and they didn't have much of a choice to bring back the start screen. Security I'm sure is a bit better but goddamn, you would think they learned a little bit from their past security failures and even then you know it's going to be full of zero days until the day they drop support.

The left list of Places and Most used is completely unnecessary and only takes up space. A win 8 solution when you had to swipe up to get to all apps was much better. Also horizontal scrolling start screen was much more transparent, since most tablets are in 16:9 and you hold them in land scape mode.

They're just oversized versions of old icons. Maybe you'd have them that large on a tablet to tap it with your sausages, but not many would leave their icons to take up so much real estate. If you put more detail into them when you scale them down, they're much more likely to look like an indistinguishable mess.

Also fuck gradients, those solid colors look much nicer. Gradients are right up there with lens flares and drop shadows in adding "detail" to graphics.
