I'm using MSYS2 on Windows, and have continually failed to compile all of the libraries I wish to build ffmpeg with. Most recently Theora runs into a fatal error in math.h, and SDL refuses to work properly and I can't decipher what I should redirect the paths in sdl-config to. I don't want to just download the package, I'd rather build it myself.

Can't resolve issues without more or less brute force testing shit to do with MSYS like it's some kind of black box. Don't at all understand the framework I'm using, and therefore, my framework of knowledge will also be insufficient no matter what.

Feel retarded. Gradually slipping into deep depression.
>>
>>46811425
Perfectly.

Put ytdl with the mpv binary, or put it in your PATH. Only problem I've noticed on Windows 7 64 bit, is it will always bitch about lack of write permissions when you try to update, no matter what. The only fix is to open a command prompt in its actual directly and type out the full filename (youtube-dl.exe -U).

Nuisance, but easy to work around.
>>
mpv is blurry

>I don't want to just download the package, I'd rather build it myself.
Why? It's much less painful to use the packages that come with MSYS2. No one likes compiling shit for Windows. Even if you want a bleeding-edge FFmpeg, you can still get everything else from the repos.

Also, don't bother with SDL, you don't need (or want) it at all.

np, when growing out of /b/ you need to read the rules and each boards sticky, as they all have things you need to follow, and often contain your first questions already
>>

Yes it is.

In the cmd if I write
mpv URL
and press ctrl+s it works.

If I open the same video using the firefox plugin ctrl+s doesn't merge the video and audio files.
>>

I actually hate /b/, I was there only to try some bbcode.

I usually lurk /a/ and /g/ but this is the first time I needed the

>>
>>46815158
while i'm not sure exactly how path on windows works, it's possible for programs to override the PATH environment variable when spawning new programs

only thing i can think of is that "openwith" is messing with the PATH being given to mpv as it's being opened through "openwith", causing mpv to fail to find youtube-dl
>>
>>46815208
oh, one thing you can try is temporarily putting youtube-dl in the same folder as mpv

normally you don't need a special entry in PATH to get a program to find things in its own folder
>>
>>46815234
... forgot to add, if this works, then openwith is likely messing with PATH, check if there's any options to disable this behaviour, otherwise just keep a copy of youtube-dl in with mpv
>>
>>46815208
>>46815234
It already is in the mpv folder.

It surely is a "openwhith" problem though.

Actually the thing is general boards brought to the community a lot of shitty people, the perfect example of this is /pol/.

Other than this, I hate people who shitposts other boards because "muh board is better board".

Like, there is not a perfect board, and there's no need to talk shit about other bords only because it doesn't reflect our tastes.
>>
>>46815267
maybe what you can try is making a shell script (batch file) which sets the path before executing youtube-dl, then getting mpv to run that instead

for example;
@echo off
set PATH="c:\path\to\youtube-dl"
youtube-dl %1

the "%1" here is the first argument, so calling "script.cmd url", the "%1" will be replaced with "url", which matches what you're currently doing
>>
>>46815435
>there is not a perfect board
Of course, but some boards are closer to perfect than others.
>>
>>46815489
actually this would be the same as using an absolute path (c:\path\to\youtube-dl\youtube-dl.exe %1)

also, where is ffmpeg? youtube-dl needs ffmpeg to merge files, is that in with mpv? if it's not you could try that first, otherwise try this (add ffmpeg's folder to this path too, like "PATH="c:\path\ffmpeg;c:\path\youtube-dl"")
>>
>>46815489
>>46815539
I think the problem is ffmpeg since it's ffmpeg.exe that merges files.

But how do I make mpv to use that script instead of youtube-dl?

>MinGW

>>
>>46811437

>>
>>46816930
presumably you can put it in the same place as you have "youtube-dl" in your input.conf

make sure the script is somewhere in PATH (probably just in the same folder as mpv will be best)
>>
>>46817091
also make sure it uses the extension .cmd or .bat, else windows won't know what to do with it
>>
>>46813062
That's exactly what I'm talking about, that's fucking ridiculous.

When I install software, it's in my $PATH by default without me doing anything.

Thanks to the design of Windows, you have to manually do that yourself, and it's done in a really terrible way too. This is a big deal for personal usability, and software developers.

>>46812481
>>46812785
>>
>>46817111

>>
>>46817227

ctrl+s run youtube-dl "${path}"; show_text "Saving ${media-title}"

replace youtube-dl here
ctrl+s run script.cmd "${path}"; show_text "Saving ${media-title}"

idk if mpv can launch a cmd script from here, it depends how it does it

>When I install software, it's in my $PATH by default without me doing anything.
The path variable works exactly the same on Windows but users don't always store things in the same place like /bin, if you want that there's already several package managers for Windows that will install binaries or links to binaries in the same place such as chocolatey, scoop, pacman, and soon OneGet which will wrap those and more to provide the same functionality. You can also do that yourself by having some kind of directory included in your path then linking executables there.

>Also pasting to cmd requires a right click which sucks.
Nope. Here's my sequence of keystrokes:

1. y to yank the URL
2.
<Meta-w>
to switch to the left monitor (note: Meta is where the capslock key would normally be)
3.
mpv <Shift-Insert>
to launch MPV on the clipboard contents.

If you were really dedicated, you could also make a macro that runs mpv on the contents of
xclip -o
, but I prefer my way since that lets me easily append multiple URLs to the command line, if I want to watch more than one video in a row.

Either way, it's effectively 7 keystrokes. Even a relatively slow typer at, say, 120 wpm would be able to complete it in 0.7 seconds (7/(120*5/60) = 0.7).

Who said MPC was bad? MPV is good on all platforms, MPC is limited to one which is why MPV is suggested.

MPC-BE master race.

>What's the problem with the youtube player?
1. The interface is a piece of shit, and not what I'm used to
2. The video quality is absolutely dreadful - bad upscaling, everything's a juddery mess, wrong colormatrices, 8 bit clipping, etc.
3. No color management support (even though Firefox supports it for most things, they simply ignore your gfx.color_management settings for video playback, for some odd reason..)
4. Can't buffer properly
5. Can't take screenshots properly
6. No easy way to change settings other than through some shitty convoluted GUI
7. Fullscreen mode is completely broken for me
8. Very bad performance
If you genuinely think that the built-in video player is good enough for *anything*, then you should probably stop talking about a subject you clearly have little understanding of.

Oh, there's your problem. Well, enjoy your convoluted GUI work-arounds I guess.

>Also what keyboard outside of the chromebook ones puts meta where capslock is instead of between ctrl and alt?
Mine does. Why don't you? Do you legitimately have a better use for the capslock key?

I did.

But I use the command line mostly, for as much as you type you don't read so well. The other person is the one who wanted that solution.

>Mine does. Why don't you? Do you legitimately have a better use for the capslock key?
What? You said your meta key was where capslock typically is on keyboards, my meta key is in the normal spot, that's why I'm wondering what keyboard you have that has a weird layout.
Pic related is the only modern keyboard I know of that does that.

BE is pretty good from what I've used, but I'm already accustomed to HC.
>>
>>46818950
I don't watch anime, movies, documentaries, and tv series via youtube and the fact I can't skip between the video while I watch something is a huge downside.
>>
>>46819041
Outside of the API and appearance they're the same except BE has some more features such as the preview and YouTube support etc.
>>
>>46819031
Look, I know I'm dealing with a Windows user here, but are you seriously so bad at technology that you can't grasp the concept of changing a keyboard layout?
>>
>>46818981
It is ugly.

How do I use MPV if I don't use X ?

I can't tell if your reading comprehension is that bad or if you're just being hostile for attention either way you're no fun to talk to, I was only asking you what layout you were using since it'd obviously not standard. Like damn dude relax or something.

Yeah.

If it's what you want you gotta do it like that, do you have any other display options like a display server that's not X? Wayland, rio, etc.

Reaching for the mouse when you already have your fingers on the home row is never faster.

More efficient, elegant. MPC when all setup with extras will load like 5 extra programs that sit in your taskbar. It works, but it's still messy and inefficient.

mpv is also updated more frequently.

I just installed MPC-BE:

1- How do I see previews?
2- Can't I use madVR?
3- Why the size of a 720p video loaded with this program is zoomed out in a small window?

Sorry guys can I set the remaining time in the osc to display as the whole duration time of the video by default?
