No idea what I am doing edition.
as good an addicting as ever
hello - did ya try out that colorscheme
got in early this time
change that background, dood. something less eyecatching.
try to pick between one of the two icon sets and stick with it.
work on your css a bit, like the media player
use a better operating system. preferably one that respects your freedoms.
what's your average cock in mouth:cock in rear ratio?
The top bar autohides. Really wish I could get rid of the icons next to programs but nothing seems to work.
as in the 4chan css?
ah, and that's actually full screen netflix.
monitor setup is in pic related
well i've only had a dick in my mouth, sadly, i do not deserve the title of a faggot really
These desktops are disgusting.
I'm crying for your pleb tier font in your bar
Still haven't added me
Literally GOAT girl of all time.
dunno what to do now besides install linux.
You could probably start by emptying your recyclebin. And/or removing it from the desktop entirely. Your desktop is nearly entirely clean, if that's how you roll then why not go all the way?
can someone help me fix thisapt-get -f install

i did the whole linux thing and it was great and all but i'd rather have my laptop actually work and get more than 2 hours of battery life.
in windows 8.1 i get 7 hours of battery life while working, and all my shit works.
meh, it's just difficult to get to the recycle bin if i need to open it or empty it if its hidden.
The translation is more or less trivial (at least time consuming parts), and since you're recompiling, it can be inlined as well. And even if another layer was costly, the game is GPU-bound anyway.
It does. If for some reason your computer is a magical exception, just make a path to it.
what of my post would make either desktops less functional?
it's #rice on rizon, we know. no need to hide your identity.
>hide recycle bin
>remove program icons from taskbar
>uninstall useful programs
Hooray you have a computer that will grant you high ratings on g - desktop threads but isn't useful for anything beyond that.
I ask that you please stop calling the operating system Linux. The Linux kernel is just a small part of the operating system. Many of the software programs that make up the operating system you call Linux were not developed by Linus Torvalds at all. They were created by GNU Project volunteers, putting in their own personal time so that users might have a free operating system like the one we have today. To not acknowledge the contribution of those programmers is both impolite and a misrepresentation of history. That's why I ask that when you refer to the operating system, please call it by its proper name, GNU/Linux.
would you prefer I suggest alternatives?
you shouldn't be on /g/ if you aren't paranoid enough to use skype
openoffice or libreoffice
vim, emacs, or even lime
you already have firefox
if your computer hinges on the constant use of a mouse you're hardly optimizing your time
I want to switch to a Linux distro soon.
But I don't know what one to go with.
Have my desktop.
Exactly. g-desktop threads feature the worst desktops of the whole internet, usually.
Which is highly ironical given the elitist attitude that comes along with these threads.
but it doesn't.
unless you're talking about windows 7, which is fairly obvious that i don't have.
>blah blah blah i have autism
how's autism treating you?
>stop using programs that i don't like
>use programs that i use because of my completely subjective opinion that they're superior
nah i'm gonna keep using my skype, microsoft word, and sublime text.
Skype doesn't respect your freedom.
Office Suite doesn't respect your freedom.
Sublime doesn't respect your freedom.
Of course, you're using Windows so I suppose you don't care about your digital rights and as I stated, don't belong on /g/. Go somewhere like 100%chan or reddit.
says the person saying these programs are restricting my freedoms.
>This is what we all strive for. We want to be big strong independent basement dwellers who still live in their parents' home. Achieving total freedom in his use of technology is the greatest accomplishment a gentoomen can attain. There are rumors that when this happens, golden light starts to emanate from your computer screen and Richard Stallman materializes in your room. He has written the GPL to help you reach this state of nirvana.
Jesus christ you're autistic.
This is probably gonna be a really retarded question but what file format is ~/ncmpcpp/config supposed to be? Because I currently have it as .conf and ncmpcpp doesn't seem to be reading it. I'm trying to get the vizualizer to work to no avail
the tin foil thing suggests unreasonable conspiracy
there's no doubt that skype and windows sell your data to advertisers, it's well known
sublime is just suspiciously closed source
>le ad hominem mayme
how is wanting your secure/private files to remain secure/private a bad thing?
if anything, freely giving it out to freely giving it out to any corporation intelligent enough to make something that benefits you is retarded
Free software supporters
>gives actual arguments
>cares about freedom, worried about government surveillance and multinationals that want to monopoly computer science with vendor lock-ins, propietary languages and closed platforms
>Well-read and smart
Propietary software supporters
>only inane arguments
>"muh autism", "muh tin foil XD"
>Doesn't care about moral values
>Forever attached to the commercial interests of some company
it does and is constantly happening, it just isn't looking you straight in the face so you feel content with ignoring it
and yes, having your personal data in the hands of any advertiser, agency, or inquirer does have the potential to harm you directly
whatever helps you sleep at night, bub. while you're constantly shouting "muh freedoms!" at everyone using windows, sublime text, and microsoft word, everyone else will be busy not being autistic and getting actual work done.
I do get stuff done, dare I say more than people using Windows. My system is easy to customize to my specifications and works for me rather than against me. I've got a good number of macros to make using vim an even easier and more painless experience, I can SSH into my desktop and work server for file transfers on the go, and through free software I can customize software to fit my particular purposes.
Enjoy being on the wrong side of government surveillance.
Plenty but I'm going to be terrible and tell you to do it by eye.
Start by installing either openbox or a tiling wm, work your way up.
If you follow a guide you'll just end up with the generic non-functional /g/top
small little script that runs everytime ncmpcpp changes songs#!/bin/sh
artist=`ncmpcpp --now-playing %a`
album=`ncmpcpp --now-playing %b`
title=`ncmpcpp --now-playing %t`
notify-send --hint=int:transient:1 -u low "$artist" "<i>$album</i>\n$title"
I know that's a retard-tier question for most of you but how do I get scripts from twily.info to work with Openbox?
Good morning you wacky booooger butts!
I'll tell ya how to do the first grid
make a folder in home called "scripts" whatever.
place grid.sh file in it with the commands.
and use my openbox for the commands. you can change the rest yourself.
also download xdotool and wmctrl . then reboot
keybinds are window key numpad
make sure in the grid to make your resolution. also you can change the distance etc
Can anyone help me with fucking npcmpcpp and mpd. Holy shit, I've spent a week already and can't figure it out. Is it normal that when I start mpd via terminal I get the error cant bind address already in use or something like that. And that ncpcmpp can't read any of my fucking files. It's literally empty, even after I clicked u, and used Rasi's script from some arch site. Using Mint Rebecca if it helps. Please anyone. I know its off-topic, so sorry about that.
here is what I do
first install mpc mpd ncmpcpp
I would unistall and delete all the files related to it and start over
Follow that guide to create stuff.
then find a config on dot, share or whereveer you want.
make sure music directory is correct and for user uncomment and put your name.
should do it hopefully
Also. normally type mpc just once. and then mpd and then ncmpcpp.
but add mpd to autostart so you just type ncmpcpp for the rest of times.
and pkill mpd if you have an issue. that could be the bind address thingy

>inb4 h8, fuck Linux attention whores
Finally, thanks you holy fuck. It's weird because I followed that same guide, but it seems deleting everything from prior installations did the trick. Fucking thanks anon, wish you have a good one.
March is springtime, as far as I am concerned.
You're not alone. It took me 2 goes to install it so it ran.
Anon's right. You can fuck the install up so bad that it's best get rid of everything and start again. As soon as I did that, it was OK.
what do you mean by the commands (I have to put that file in the scripts directory with which commands?) sorry native speaker. And how exactly do I use the config file from pastebin?
>ITT: neckbeards trying to look cool with open terminal windows on their server OS
TIP TOP KEK
>he doesn't know how to set a start page on his webbrowser
No, you use userstyles and stylish add on normally:
Or you write (more like copy from others in most cases) your own user css:
I mean check the rc.xml I posted. and put in your rc.xml. or just copy and paste y whole thing and edit out what you want afterwards.
Hard to explain I know. also make sure to add permissions and etc to the grid file
Why is pacman so slow?
hurr durr do you wanna install this *SPOOKY DANGEROUS*
Are you sure?
How mature is arch for daily use? Does getting a new update often break the system?
3rd minty fresh newfag here.
How would I go about installing a diffrent window manager on mint? Or isn't mint made to handle that too well?
Unfortunately you will BREAK THE FUCK out of Mint if you try to use anything outside the defaults. You'd do better to get Linux Arch or Linux Ubuntu, they're designed for being changed
This wallpaper is kinda trippy.
Why do you have icons in your bar? Why is it Monday March 2?
I always like this desktop, but I think that it was a tiny bit better when you had more contrast between your terminal windows and wallpaper.
Please be a good anouncement
Perhaps a bit more contrast on your bar would look nice?
Terminals feel a bit cramped, and the font on that bar doesn't really work
Looks pretty 'stable' as well.
Having no wallpaper and terminal contrast is new, I don't think it quite works. Also, remove the icons on your bar.
Ayyy add me ;)
I think that your bar is a bit too thick.
Thinking of switching to firefox? It would go well with your rice.
Its a bit in-your-face.
O-o-of course, I'll add you, anon.
What's your steam profile?
which term's font looks better?
extremely gnu to the linux world, but have tried to familiarize myself with the whole DE/WM concept, been on windows my whole life so it's kinda foreign.
is there a way to remove the icons from my panel up top?
I know ffox looks like shit right now, gotta get appchan situated.
no time for rice
daily reminder that there is no such thing as a good tiling window manager
ok, so you open up the .html file, just right-click it and choose to open with firefox.
in the url bar, copy that path to your firefox settings under Tools > Options if windows, or Edit > Preferences
you should see a bar that says Home Page, and is either set to about:startpage or about:home
paste the path to the .html file in the home page bar and click ok, then restart your browser.
I'm sick of this wannabe old school unix bs. Why would you hide the recycling bin? It's meant to be there along with the other icons a windows user would select. There's no benefit in dressing Windows up to look like a different animal.
Old school unix had recycle bins too! They fell out of favor because they are useless and annoying for people who don't randomly spaz out and delete everything.
Disable the recycle bin and hide the icon, or admit that you're too retarded to not delete important files.
I like it.
First day of i3, liking it so far
sounds like you have to edit the .html file
your typical link will look like this, where the # will be the url of a page you want to open<a href="#">click me</a>
odds are good that your link has the target set to open in a new tab, and the href is likely still set to a # instead of a url.
try editing the .html file so that it says
<a href="www.google.com">click me</a>
or if it has an image as the link, it'll be something like this
<a href="www.tittiesandbeer.com"><img src="tigolbitties.jpg" width="100px" height="100px" /></a>
>inb4 deprecated tags, it's been years since i did anything seriously w/ html
>inb4 not using css to format images, it's just an example
Get on my level you plebs
>Not reading your printout on paper
You screenies disgust me
work in progress, made the theme myself, haven't had the time to make a 3DC theme yet
Nice icon....blob. Also, I can appreciate when people store information in plain old text files :)
That settles it; you Arch users really are just trolling. I knew you weren't actually using it as your main OS
Compilin' all day, erry day
Lol. Didn't want us to know you were looking up answers in forums? Or was it that you were researching GNOME?
Late but whatever.
God I hate my chromebook
Hi I'm a massive pleb who doesn't have a 100% fully functional system.
But I love these threads so I thought I'd share how far I've gotten in my descent into ricing autism. Going for a sort of black and white contrast type thing.
Also before you ask I don't even have an .Xresources, so telling me my colors are shit is pretty useless.
I've been considering switching to firefox, and have played around with twily's CSS with color changes to match mine - however, firefox seems to just freeze after being open a few hours.
It will gradually get slower and slower until it's unusable.
