First for how do I get my x60's touch screen to function in Arch Linux?
>>
does anyone know if there is an older thinkpad model that has a slider you have to slide to open it? like when you close it, it locks into place and you have to move the slider on the front to open it again, does this exist?
>>
>>46703531
My t420 has that
Likely most other models
>>
>1366x768
>>
>>46703644
T/W*30 was the last model in offer lid latches.
>>
What's a good laptop for an incoming Comp Sci undergrad? I'd kind of like a tablet model to use with OneNote and I'd probably spend $500 at most.
>>
So will /g/ be joining the class action against Lenovo?

Surely you of all people would be most outraged by this underhanded practice

TN or IPS?
>>
Not thinkpad related, but i've just bought elitebook 8540p, and number of screwdrivers in my house is 0, What screwdriver do i need to take notebook apart and unscrew cpu heatsink, to clean and apply new thermal paste?
>>
>>46703937
Why are thinkpads so popular in Japan?

They're not even Japanese.
>>
>>46703937
Same feeling as you bruh, listened to gee and got myself a T420 instead of on of these shitty intel celery semi-netbooks.

Literally both would have cost me the same, and the only downside of the T420 is the 160GB hdd (which will be upgraded to a 240GB SSD when my poorfag student ass can allocate funds for that).

My buddy bought the celery green Acer like a dumbass and boy did he regret that, although he has a better screen then my T420, hell of a lot brighter yet both are 1366x768.

Also i'm wondering what is i should get one of these USB3 add-ons for the expresscard slot.
>>
>>46704190
drunk ass me

*What kind of expresscard extension should i get to get USB3 ports*
>>
I'm thinking about buying one, looking for a really cheap one that I don't have to invest a lot of money into.

I'll probably end up putting Crunchbang or some shit on it.

I was wondering, where can I procure a Thinkpad for under $100? Do lawfirms still give them out for cheap?
>>
hi /g/

what would you recommend thinkpad-wise for someone in the uk?

looking at some ebay listings and they seem more expensive here
>>
>>46704243
Drunk me feels nice so ill help.

it all depends how lucky you are, for a 100$ you can score a T400 or X200 maybe even X201\T410 if you're lucky.
Step up to 130$~ and you might get a T500.

If you're going dirt cheap get the X61, pretty old by now, but its reliable and still retains some value.
>>
>>46704327
Are they only available on Ebay? Where do you typically get them?
>>
>>46704243
You can easily fin a T6* for this price, and if you look a bit you should find a T400 for around $100

With one of those you'll be able to browse the web, watch 1080p vids and play some light games

>>46704313
From my past experiences (~6 months ago), UK is the cheapest place in Europa thinkpad wise
>>
>>46704243
Define expensive, to get one where i live in it's going to be a pain in the ass. I've seen some good prices around the UK for T410 and X201, but they are UK\EU shipping only.

Search for either the two models mentioned earlier or the newer T\X*20 series. Since it's the UK consider checking around 2nd hand websites like craigslist uk and such.
>>
>>46704005
bump ;_;
>>
>>46704358
As i've said (>>46704369) ebay isn't the only option.
>>
>>46704380
>>46704005
Drunk old shit to the rescue. If you already don't have one buy one of these sets, they are cheap as shit and handy to have.

I have two sets (one philips one flathead) and i use them on a weekly basis.

HP elitebooks usually come with Philips #1 screws and i think your model is aswell, just online for what kind of screws they use in the service manual.

Despite what most people say I actually like this laptop. I use the touchpad more than the clit mouse anyways.

Plus I can play fallout new Vegas with the HD 4600 :D
