The thing that puts me off private trackers is that they log your IP and you're not allowed to use a proxy to log in (what.cd). If you ever get caught a IP and an account is more of a smoking gun than just an IP like it is on public torrent sites. I don't see the point in these elitists private trackers. The base of their spirit is to share their passion for free with anyone, but almost no one can join their circlejerk club and they use the first reason they found to kick you out.

Also they don't protect you at all from NSA and other spying agencies, because to protect yourself from those agencies you need to hide your traffic with a VPN, not clarely connecting to a little unknown server.

My UNI seems to be throttling connections via SFTP so I can't download files from my seedbox. Would it help to change the port or just use FTP instead or is there another alternative I can use? I've tried changing the port to 443 and there was a slight improvement but it wasn't huge. Thanks

If I maintain 100 uploads, I dont have a required ratio. I get that, but as I understand this, I can still lose PU/Elite perks because of ratio?

Yeah, those are 2 different factors. Your ratio won't affect your account from being completely disabled but you will be demoted to the lowest kind of userclass if your ratio drops below what is needed to maintain that userclass.

You will be able to use your account forever, but you will always be the lowest class if your ratio is 0.01, for example.

If you only maintain 99 uploads all of a sudden, you get locked from downloading, and if you don't fix your ratio, your account is disabled and you will have to beg the admins on IRC to get it back.

They shut down websites that make it easy for them to shut down. Private trackers are not easy to shut down. A good private tracker is beyond paranoid with security and no Fed would even care to take it down much less try to ID the owner since they are so small and don't operate for profit.
