I've read the guide, but I want to hear from some actual Anons, what, in your opinion, are the absolute best headphones I can get for under $200 USD?

I listen to almost exclusively EDM, mostly house like Deadmau5 etc.

>inb4 'edm is shit'

but EDM is shit.
>>
>>46265084
Why? Reviews seem pretty good?
>>

Wow they made it clear just so you can see how flimsy the soldering is on the headphones. And retards will still buy it with enough paid reviews.
>>
>>46264986
okay so I posted this at the end of the last thread so I'm going to post again. I'm between 3 headphones: the DT 880 600 Ohm, HD 600, and the HD 650. I know the sound signatures for all three but here's the thing: I don't know what sound signature/headphone to go for. I listen to mainly alternative rock, some electronic. Advice would be greatly appreciated!

>>46265193
Pick the HD600 if you have no clue. At very least, it serves as a baseline to figure out where to go from there. These are all fairly popular headphones, and you should make sure to buy from somewhere with a nice return policy.
>>
>>46265315

I heard they were overhyped and Beats-tier though.
>>
>>46265193
Can't you go someplace and try them out for yourself? It's really up to your own tastes.
>>
>>46265372
They're hyped, yes, but should work amazingly for EDM with the bass they have.

Some like DT 770, too.

no, unfortunately not

Help me out here.

If I buy HD800 and an amp I will have the HD800, but no monies left.

If I buy a Grado, I will have a Grado and I will not need to purchase an amp since mine is good enough (its for low impedance phones) and I will also have monies to buy weeb shit and so on.

What do?

I don't like grados. Lots of people don't like grados. Not something you should buy without hearing first.
HD 800 doesn't need that much of an amplifier to work. As long know what you are getting...but do you?

>>46265513
One has big bass, the other not as much. 840 slightly more comfy, but I don't remember much else about it.
>>
>>46265518

>>46265518
You might as well save $1420 by buying SR60e if you're considering Grado, because the higher up their line you go, the more under-engineered they become. At least $1500 price for HD 800 is justified because actual science and engineering went into it, and it is truly a flagship, but Grado high-end models on are just tuned by the ear bullshit with no technological advancement since 1990s.

I don't get why everybody always recommends the HD 800 as if they're the best headphones, they're clearly not. I found the HD 800's way too bright and lacking in the mids, the HD 598's were better overall and had a MUCH wider soundstage and clearer upper mids. I hate how everybody always says how great the HD 800's here are as if you fags just recommend by price tag instead of sonic quality. Worse than Head-Fi cable faggots.

You should maybe get a cheap pair of well-isolated ones for a plane, if you'll mostly use them at home and only during air travel on occasion. Few environments are noisier than an airplane, so either you go well-isolated closed-back for home and plane or you buy two pairs, I'd say. Just my two cents.

Hello there,

First time seriously looking in to getting a good gaming headset. I would like to experience 7.1 dolby digital sound, if this really helps with positioning in games. I have been looking around, but I have no clue as to what a decent headset would be. I am planning to use the headset mainly on my ps4, however I will also be using it for my pc. The headphones do not necessarily need a built in mic, however this may be easier, considering I will be using them for my ps4.

Had anybody got headphones they are really happy with and could recommend?

I'm looking to spend no more than €250,-.

If you need more input to make a good decision, I will be monitoring this thread.

Thanks in advance.

>>
>>46274993
I only own the Fidelio X2 as an open-back headphone. I can recommend them, but they are a good bit beyond your budget.

For open headphones in your price range, the Sennheiser HD558 (HD598 if you're too lazy for foam mod) and the Audiotechnica ATH-AD500x/700x/900x are usually recommended and might be worth a look. Considering you are in Korea and Audiotechnica is a Japanese company, maybe you have an opportunity to get one of those for a good price.
>>
>>46274756
I'd recommend the sennheiser HD598.
They have a great soundstage and are really comfortable. They're great for games and movies (dat positional accuracy, dat balanced sound).
Unfortunately they have literally zero isolation, so you couldn't use them on a plane. They also wouldn't be the best for electronic music.
You could take the left over $50 and buy a cheaper closed headphone, though.
>>

you should avoid both of those at all costs.

>>46276231

>>46276271
I thought you could use the jack in the ps4 controller to use normal headphones with. However, I had the feeling it would be difficult to find a solution for my problem. Couldn't I connect my headphones to television, either through an amp or not?

Thanks for the suggestion though, I will have a look.
>>
>>46276430
I don't think that detachable cables at that price point are that common. I know the Audiotechnica ATH M-YYx series have detachable cables, but they're closed, not open. Further up in the price range more along $300 there's the Sennheiser HD600/650 and Fidelio X2 which are open-back and offer detachable cables.
>>
>>46276605
You can connect your headphone to the controller, you might not have a microphone attached to it though. 7.1 sound with headphones is a marketing term, what you actually need are cans with a good soundstage. Most open headphones have that, the only closed ones are probably NVX XPT100/Brainwavz HM5.

>>46265518
You could buy an HD800 with a completely neutral O2/Magni amplifier. But beware, HD800 is a very bright headphone so it sounds like shit on accurate amps.

Also, don't buy an HD800, it's a Head-Fi meme.
>>
>>46276921
I always thought 4chan had drama, but man is Head-Fi crazy. Especially that one Chinese manufacturer bribing government officials into raiding a competitor and then trying to shill his shit on the forums.
>>
>>46276605
There is no way you could ever do a 7.1 surround sound with headphones that have one transducer per ear. It just won't work. 7.1 or "surround sound" also does not mean you will have more accurate sense of what is going on around you in games or how you position instruments in music etc. Surround sound in headsets is software EQ, HRTF, signal delay and echoing all combined to simulate some sort of "room" or space around you. Thing is, your standard high quality open stereo headphones will be so much better at positional accuracy than any "surround" headset will be and they are also on another level in terms of sound and build quality and offer much better value than highly marketed chinese made gaming crap.

USB cabled headphones/headset is also a terrible idea in general. Passive headphones with nothing but analog connectors are so much better if connected to a proper output and source.
>>
>>46276953
Head-Fi IS crazy.

I went to a meet once in Singapore and it was like mass delusion.
>>
>>46276825
Yeah, the HD598 has a detachable cable. It has a twist lock mechanism, though, Don't let that throw you off.
It might work for electronic, but they aren't the "fastest" headphone and don't have the greatest bass.
Post a song you're curious about and someone here can tell you how it sounds on the 598. I could, but I won't be able to until I get home to my setup (posting from mobile).

Stereo amps have their own quirks too but most likely yes, especially if you compare that to a "surround sound gaming headset". Integrated amps and AV receivers usually have the headphone jack as a resistor limited output from the rear speaker terminals. This often leads to massive output impedance of the jack which is not good for dynamic headphones, especially low impedance ones. Problem is, this is almost never specified by manufacturers.
>>
>>46277091
Hearing the difference now isn't the reason to encode to FLAC. FLAC uses lossless compression, while MP3 is 'lossy'. What this means is that for each year the MP3 sits on your hard drive, it will lose roughly 12kbps, assuming you have SATA - it's about 15kbps on IDE, but only 7kbps on SCSI, due to rotational velocidensity. You don't want to know how much worse it is on CD-ROM or other optical media.
I started collecting MP3s in about 2001, and if I try to play any of the tracks I downloaded back then, even the stuff I grabbed at 320kbps, they just sound like crap. The bass is terrible, the midrange...well don't get me started. Some of those albums have degraded down to 32 or even 16kbps. FLAC rips from the same period still sound great, even if they weren't stored correctly, in a cool, dry place. Seriously, stick to FLAC, you may not be able to hear the difference now, but in a year or two, you'll be glad you did.

The 558 might work better for this music, and if not you could always take the extra $100 (I think they may still be $99 from best buy's website) and buy a decent pair of closed cans.
If music isn't that important, I'd still definitely recommend the 598. I don't think you're going to find a headphone that gives you everything you're looking for in that price range, but the 598 can give you a lot of it.
>>
so do the 558s with the foam mod actually sound like the 598s? Am I right in thinking they have the same driver? The only reason i'm thinking of choosing the 558s is because they don't look like a volvo

Sennheiser HD600 if you can cop it for that 250e, most likely not going to cut it. One of the best option for almost any price range.

Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro, the 250 Ohm version. It'll work well if you are going to plug them into your receiver or integrated amp. They are quite neutral and super comfy. DT990 with the higher impedance ratings would also be an option if you like a lot of bass and aren't afraid of treble. They have a very V-shaped frequency response in that regard.

opus is neckbeard shit for people who only listen on foobar and rockboxed sansa clips. you sure you want to be associated with these people?

you would have to get all your music in lossless and convert it yourself. otherwise it's transcoding since opus is lossy.

I use AAC ~256 for a better mix of quality/compatibility.

Even if there is one how much would I have to spend? Honestly I might be willing to spend more than 200.

Otherwise, I think I'll just get the 598s, I hate the idea of switching between multiple headphones and I am pretty sure they will be an improvement over the Samsons in all aspects.
>>
>>46277492
Pretty much. Also you talked about the HD598 having a detachable cable, but I read somewhere that it's not just a standard 3.5mm jack, so maybe read up on that to make sure.

Yeah, the 598 has a special cable with a twist lock mechanism. The cable it comes with also isn't 3.5mm. You have to use the included adaptor. It's not a big deal for home use, but kind of dumb.

I've got an Asus Z97-A. Great mobo but unfortunately it's internally amped which means my 55 Ohm impedance K240s are way too loud at like %15-20 volume. What's my best course of action at this point? The e90 isn't an energizer, it's an amplifier. And you need something to charge the diaphragm, which is not something a normal headphone needs. You could use a stax amp if you swapped out the connector, but you need something to bias the headphone.

The battery pack is an additional add-on, takes lots of big batteries and is only needed if you want to take it away from an outlet.
The esp950 has some build issues, but koss services the headphone on the cheap.

Considering they're only 7 days old, I figured I'd take advantage of the warranty and just use my M50Xes in the meantime.

Currently using those. They're pretty good. I don't have much to compare them to though. They've lasted a fairly long time now considering I use them all day and all night.

What? Are you asking for a media player? CD ripping software?

>no shitposting à la best headphones in the world

Wow, maybe I can ask you. Are they worth it? Shipping to Germany would probably be pretty expensive but still, they have me intrigued. Problem is that this past week, there's only been K7xx shitposting non-stop. Any thoughts on it? How do they compare to Fidelio X2, HD600, HD650 (if you know)? Thanks for giving a heads-up on the drop m8

A music player, like iTunes, VLC, Windows Media Player, etc.

Looking to buy some Xiaomi Piston 2's to make my commute to uni a little less dull. Read quite a bit about fakes though, where could I get a legit pair in the UK?
