So it's well known that most domestic printers insert tracking information into every page they print containing the printers serial code and timestamp so that the government can track who printed what.

What year did this start? I want to buy an old printer that doesn't have the tracking stuff

Can't you just buy one with cash so it can't be traced back to you?
Or a used one from some garage sale or something ?
>>
>ask a friend of a friend to buy you new printer from a 20 year old pothead off best buy parking lot
>problem solved
>>
>>46167209
Yeah but if the police did raid my home they would still be able to link the printer to the printouts and convict me on that
>>
>>46167242
what the fuck are you printing that would incriminate you

I'm not trying
>hurr innocent people have nothing to hide

I'm genuinely curious.
>>
there must be a way to edit the file that creates it, or is it just a manual thing?
>>
>>46167242
h-hypothetically of course...
>>
>>46167242
You're being convicted either way. This post is already on the public and private archives. All they'll need to do is gather your Web history from your isp.

A PRINTER?
WELL THIS IS A JOB FOR
STALL MAN
>>
>>46167293
It's done on the printer level, not the file.
You could perhaps, make a counter pattern that would fuck that pattern up.
Also, many editing suites won't open money.
>>
Install Gentoo

Are there any printers that can run free software?

Use a typewriter.

Just color lasers, inkjet master race doesn't.
>>
how does one even see the info that's printed on a page? black light or some shit?

Get treatment for your paranoia first.
>>
>print x
>destroy the printer
>>
>>46167478

would this actually work? provided you got the right yellow?
>>
>>46167335
>try to make a parody of a dollar bill for some reason
>Photoshop refuses to open the stock photo I got from the internet
I didn't actually know that was a thing they baked into software until recently.

Also, wouldn't it be super easy to just smudge out or get rid of the markings? I assume they'd be in the same place on each page
>>
>Get all your friends to print out something for you on their printers
>Scan them, copy all the dots
>Apply dots as a watermark over your printouts
>Now it has 10 different peoples serial codes
>Feds have no idea who actually printed it
>>
>>46167546
You'd have to get a perfect match.
>>
>>46167555
Laser printers don't really smudge, and it's all over the page.
>>
There is no way that that is one centimeter.
>>
>>46167555
For the Photoshop thing you can just use GIMP (Iknow, I know). It doesn't have the money protection bullshit going on.
>>
>>46167621
Personally I use PDN for most lighter works. Unsurprisingly, non-pro software doesn't do the money protection shit.
>>
>>46167165

Think about it

Think about it

In order for the code to be traceable the code must correspond to that printer somehow. The print head must match the printer via serial number or something. So what you do is change the print head to another. Do your dirty printing and then switch back to original.

Printer companies are willing to help the government only so much. They're not going to waste money making every $40 so well that someone can't get around the system.
>>
>>46167546
>>46167578
wouldn't they be able to detect where there is ink residue?
Why not print the entire page the same color yellow as the tracker?
>>
>>46167335
>Also, many editing suites won't open money.
this... has been true for at least 4 years. what the fucking shit?

Anyone want to make a mask to stick over images?
I'd put it on all of my OC donut steel.

falling for bait here...

Please show me two pictures of different files printed on the same printer and show me this "tracking information" the dots on ops image could as well be from dust on the scanner or anything like that.

Dude just google it, this is a known fact.

third party driver like printfab should do it. I don't think this is a hardware issue.
>>
>>46168016
I think it is, I don't think it's as simple as using a third party driver.
Pretty sure it's done lower down.

Just use a black and white printer, they're not after folks printing threatening letters to Obama (unless they have colorful unflattering sketches) they've after counterfeiters.
>>
>>46167916
Wow, you're an idiot. What are you doing outside of the iPhone general?
>>
>>46168142
i dont' think that will help op either.

>they're not after folks printing threatening letters to Obama

stuff like this is exaclty what they are after. think about how frequently people are kidnapped. Establishing a forensic trail is easily done using tech like this.

still works perfectly and I doubt it has this included

but I only print PCB layouts anyways
>>
>>46168184
Only if they're using a color laser. These aren't produced by inkjets.
>>
>>46168193
5MP bro here. Great old printers, and as you said, excellent for PCB layouts.

this shit was absolutely mind-blowing for a 16yo kid from farm country.

What the shit!? Is this a thing? hahah ridiculous!

The ink is still there, also even if they are the same color in normal white light it can be really different in other specially crafted lighting settings (different spectras bro).
