Got my x220 today. 8GB , i5 2.5, 320gb hd

My x220t failed today.

I am almost a little bit disappointed.
Maybe here is someone who can help me.

It won't start anymore. No LEDs, no Fan nothing happens. It also wont charge the battery. At least the LED is not on.

Could it be the power connector? How can i be sure that this is the faulty part?

The charger is not the problem. It works with my t410.

Might be optional, check to see if there is a Bluetooth symbol on your LSD clearplate. If not, I think they go for like $12, or just get a micro USB Bluetooth.

Google "Thinkpad button trick" and perform it precisely without battery or external power connected. It's famous and often works. Try it several times.

I've owned a T61 since 2009 and revived it three times with this method. I also revived an Ebay organ donor that was in perfect condition otherwise.

Also visit the Thinkpad Forums. If your system board is dead there are many options such as what I do, which is buy either a working notebook with a damaged display, or buy a base with system board attached (usually cheaper than loose system boards) and swap everything over. Lenovo manuals are wonderful and replacement Pad screw kits are dirt cheap off Ebay if you need any screws.

For a few dollars, treat yourself to a Wiha masterrace screwdriver. I stick an old hard disk magnet to the shank to retain screws as I remove them.

Is buying a x220 with a fucked up mobo for ~150 worth it? I'd replace the mobo with a new one, which would cost under $200 it seems. Worth it or no?

I'm looking for a replacement motherboard for an X220, and I've found one for $75 on eBay.

However, the seller says that it doesn't have a CPU. From what I understand, all of the mobos have CPUs soldered in, is this seller retarded?

Should I buy a mobo for $75, and a broken X220 for $100 and then fix it?

I've posted this quite a bit, but I've never gotten round to doing it...

Even if the model of thinkpad is different, can you replace the screen with a different model screen, so long as they are the same size, connector type and have the same screw layout?

I'm wanting to upgrade my s440 (yes, chicklet, fuck off) from 720p to 1080p and there are multiple models that are "supported" or "the same". Could I just do a quick swap of screens and be done? Or will it require something else like extra drivers etc??

I get 3-4 hours on my x301. I dunno about the X200s but I did have a x200 which was faster and had better battery life.
But the general feel of the x301 and the keyboard is probably the best. It's hard to explain it, but the x200 just cheap compared to the x301.
Oh and I also have to mention, the screen on the x301 is fucking dog shit.

I get like 2-2.5 hours with fedora 21 and gnome though.

so /tpg/ after my old toshiba pleb tier laptop is beginning to die on me which thinkpad is a good replacement for it? An X220 or T420.

Both have the appropriate specs and i'm going for the i5 variant on both models anyways. What really bothers me is what model can potentialy have the longest battery life.

Then again upgrading from a single core NB-500 to a laptop equally older is a bit odd.

Also that motherboard is sketchy as well, ask for the FRU if possible, and see if that FRU is an i7 board.

I would think an i3 model will have better battery life on whichever laptop you get, though it will have less performance.
T420 can be fitted with a slice battery, so that and switchable graphics, the machine will last longer i'd think.

Check dem Ultrabay caddies while Ebaying the other T61s. Generics worked fine for me and others, and make adding a drive or rescuing data from one very easy. I keep one T61 just for utility work because they are so handy. I sell the "pretty" units and put the uggos to use.
