Hello, I am very frustrated, I lost all of my data because my brother used my pc and formatted my external drive, it's a seagate 3tb external. The data in this drive is worth 12 years of my life, pictures, documents, videogames, music... How can I get this back? ALL OF IT. Please I need the help.
>>
There is software out there that can recover lost data. You usually have to play for it though.
>>
try Recuva
>>
>>45435966
I am willing to pay. Could you give me the name of some approved programs?
what about recuva? i'm using it at the moment.

Lol faggot. It's gone. It would cost tons of money to get it back, and it would not even be complete.

Normal people like me back up all of our stuff on Microsoft's clouds so we never lose anything important.

Enjoy your "freedom," faggot.
>>
Give Recuva a try.

If that won't help, try professional data recovery services. Your brother will pay for them, of course.
>>
Can't get all of it.

There are programs you can find online that will find the "hidden" files that are registered as deleted. The data is all there until the space is used for another program.

Only works if it was formatted to the same format as before I believe, though.

I know the feel. All hail cloud back up storage.
>>
>>45435994
Try photorec/testdisk first.
Just keep in mind to recover files to a different hard drive.
Don't try and recover files to the drive you're recovering from.

That and it takes a long time.
>>
Stellar Phoenix data recovery do it. Otherwise getdatabackntfs good luck op

I'm trying recuva for the last hour and half and its at 2%, should i continue or abort and pickup r-studio/stellar phoenix?
>>
>>45436200
Let it run. May take up to 30 hours. This is normal.
>>
you should buy a gun and shoot your brother

you'll never get that 3tb back, not even 5% of it
>>
>>45435936
>I lost all of my data because my brother used my pc and formatted my external drive
Did he actually format it, or did he remove the contents some other way? This matters a lot.

If he did indeed format it, that sounds like a scenario where you can only get back bits and pieces of your data. A program like photorec is probably your best bet for recovering what is left; I doubt recuva and friends will find anything.

he formatted it using computer management, he was trying to partition a NEW internal drive, faggot didnt check the drive letters properly, he formatted my seagate instead.

doesn't matter, 5% of whatever you had is about the most you'll get, if you're lucky, which you're probably not

also tell your brother i have a special may may pic for him

I love Disk Digger. The only piece of software I've ever paid for (not counting games and apps).

Restore your partition table from backup. What's that, you don't back up your partition tables?

GetDataBack for NTFS
recovered 99% of data
ubuntu somehow deleted ntfs partition, formatted it to EXT4 and installed on it
>>
>>45436044
This. Photorec is going to take hours, very likely over 24 hours straight, on a 3tb drive, and you must back them up to a different source. So unless you have another 3tb lying around, this is not going to work.
>>
>>45436075
Used this too, worked great everytime.

Pirated too, so didn't even spend a buck for it.
>>
>>45436391
it's probably not all that bad in the grand scheme of things. something worse could have happened to you. and the drive could have failed regardless if your brother was a tard. now for the next time, make sure you keep your data in more than one place in case the hardware fails or something unexpected like this or a house fire occurs.
>>
>>45436391
don't sweat it faggot

look at it as a new beginning in life

it's like dying only you're still around

you have transcended your old shitty self and have a chance to move upwards in the plane of humanity. learn to let go, we will all let go one day of this mortal existence.

you have actually been given a chance by your dumb shit of a brother to improve your life, i bet some of /g/ are actually slightly jealous of you right now. all the shit we're carrying around on our ssds and hdds is just crap that we're slowly trying to cut away at.

like bruce lee said:
>It's not the daily increase but daily decrease. Hack away at the unessential.
>>
>>45436200
let it go, This is be the same with R-studio. It will takes hours, think about maybe doing it over night.
>>

I don't see what your problem is.

You need to run DBAN (which stands for Darik's Boot and Network)
Burn it to a CD and boot on it.
It'll copy any data on the disks connected to the computer regardless of the formatting, and send it to a disk of your choice, even if it's on another computer on the network
>>
shredder will save your files
you need at least 2 runs

actually that image is wrong.
RAID 0 should be RAID 1 and the other way around as with RAID 0 you get double the water but higher spillage and with RAID 1 a more long enduring system.

I mean recuva* same publisher

I would use 5 one but if the info is really important 7 is better even though it takes longer time, just return % is significantly higher

Same here
I have a copy of DBAN with me at all times on my bootable toolkit thumbdrive
saved my ass so many times

>>45436919

Depends
Sometimes guttman is fine with just one pass but for some cases (like files that were overwritten a couple times) I've been as far as the full 35 passes
fucking magic, man
>>
>>45435936

I thought if you format something all the data is completely gone? Unlike a standard delete.
>>
>>45435936

>>
>>45436978
if only quick format then you can recover 99.9% of data

>>45436962
>>
>>45436999
not always but 90% is safe bet if you do 7 passes
>>
>>45436978
No
If you did a quick format, DBAN will be able to read it just fine like nothing happened.
If you unfortunately did a complete format then it'll be a bit harder
If you're lucky DBAN will be able to recover the data just fine, if you're less lucky you'll need more guttman passes and you'll get random filenames all in one folder
Only one way to know
>>
>>45436075

Throwing in on R-studio. We bought a copy at my old job after a failure on an essential machine. I used it repeatedly over the years. It works great.
>>
>>45436978

No.

If that were the case it would take hours.
>>
>all these fuckwit britbongs trying hard to troll OP into using DBAN

OP you dumbfuck pay close fucking attention

DBAN stands for Dariks boot and NUKE

You know what a nuke does, right?
>>
>>45437027
>www.r-studio.com
you serious? We used that in our office and the return rate was low as 40%. That's rip off if you can use open source methods such as dban which give you much higher results
>>
>>45435936
I've had great success with testdisk:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TestDisk

It's all command line interface, but easy enough to understand and it's free.
>>

Provide cheap clean energy?
>>
>>45435936
Restore it using your backup.

Oh wait......
>>
>>45436962
Wait, DBAN saved your ass? What kind of shit you store on drives that can get you in trouble? Or does DBAN do recovery now? I'm confused.
>>
dban saved my ass from interpol
>>
>>45437115
its always done recovery
